The Sly Collection |OT| Fly Cooper: Band of Deeds

Started up and jumped into Sly 2. Pretty lame that you can't customize the camera to have inverted Y/normal X. May have to just jump into 3 before getting used that.

Lack of X,Y customization is one the major complaints I had about Sony's big platformers on PS2. I don't like anything inverted unless it's a flying game.

They should have fixed that for the collections. People like what they like... it's such an easy thing to fix too. And there really isn't a good reason to force folks to play one way or the other.

Great success!

I won't have time to play much until late tonight but I look forward to it. The gamestop slave had to go in the back to find a copy since they had just got them in but I'm glad I don't have to wait any longer.

yay
That Move thing isn't a sticker? God dammit....

nope and theres even a little blue move logo on the spine of the game

no one cares about Move support for this game, Sony, just shut the fuck up about it

The boxart is a travesty... I'm going to beg a friend to make a really nice one. Maybe we should submit an official request in the boxart thread. :lol

Atually making some move minigames to throw in with the main game is a pretty genious move by Sony. I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen more.

I wasn't going to get it but now that I'll have a game with move support I kind of feel like I need to get Move. Damn you marketing geniuses!

Any videos or someone with impressions of the Move minigames?

I recently traded in MoH to Amazon and prolly will buy this game with that credit.

I started with Sly 2, and loved it. I felt Sly 3 was rather okay. It started to feel like a Sonic game with all the shitty friends, but other than that is was pretty good.

I'll probably buy this for Sly 1 and for a chance to replay Sly 2.

Is anyone else annoyed by how Carmelitta's voice changes every single game?

The game is mine~!!

The guy at Gamestop gave me a weird look when I was buying this...haha

Man, I forgot how much charm this game had...it's a damn shame that Sony basically released it to die, going against Black Ops, and with little to no marketing (if it weren't for GAF, I wouldn't have even known this game came out this week).

Sucker Punch deserve all the love they can get.

Damn. I do not remember the Master Thief Sprints being so demanding. I've only beaten one it at must have taken me at least two dozen tries. By the time I beat it, I could probably clear the level blind folded. Love it.

so good, more people should be playing this

only complaint: unskippable cutscenes. Anything Bentley has to say was obvious before he could finish his first sentence, so it's a minor pain to half to sit through his bullshit. Needs a skip button.

YAY! Amazon sent me an e-mail saying they shipped the collection, and it's coming in November 11th, which is tomorrow. I'm glad I don't have to wait until next week. Loving the impressions so far in this thread. Really got me excited. :D

What does the reversible cover look like? Buying next week.

I didn't even know it was reversible. Awesome.

It's just black background with this logo in the foreground, still better than the clusterfuck box art.

I will be grabbing this tomorrow. Very excited to see these in HD and do those Master Thief Challenges again. They were pretty great.

Anyone try the minigames? Are they any fun?

Played through the first couple levels of the SC&TTR in 3D (if you can handle it, set the depth setting to 5, it makes a big difference).

What a fantastic, accessible fun game. Plus it still looks great (the art direction and animation have stood the test of time). I'm loving how the 3D allows me to gauge mid teir jumps without visible shadows with greater accuracy.

Looking forward to Sly 3, which I never got around to.

Oddly enough, I got a shipped notice at 2:30am and the game is supposed to be out for delivery tomorrow! Maybe they are giving one day shipping to make up for the late shipment?

The one that I wish was official box art for this game is where it shows Sly looking at a billboard that has all the covers for each game. Thought it was a cool way ti stills how that it's three games in one. Trying to find the image but having no luck. Can anyone help? :(

EDIT: Looking for a certain Sly Cooper Collection art, and noticed a lot of Sly/Carmelita porn art....WTF?

:lol

Just to confirm, all three games are running at a perfect, rock solid, never dropping 60 fps right? I can't imagine that NOT being the case, but you never know. Sly 1 was solid 60 on PS2 to begin with, but I believe Sly 2 and 3 had some slowdown.

Ugh. I stupidly assumed this would have been fixed for the collections. Easy enough to do. It's the reason I never went back and played these on PS2. My fingers are hard-wired for very specific camera controls in third-person games, and the horizontal camera is completely ass-backwards in the Sly games (and Jak games).

Oh well, guess this one gets crossed off of my list. Thanks for the heads up.

3D impressions please. Curious about how it performs with remastered PS2 games as I'm looking forward to purchasing a 3D TV in time for Ico/SotC collection.

So?

Edit - oh wtf is wrong with me today. Keep failing at seeing stuff.

Please go on about 3D. Resolution/framerate? Great to know about benefits when jumping.

I don't have the game yet... I was commenting on the older games. Though it sounds like, from the comments of another gaffer, that the camera isn't customizable.

I'm going to beg them for a patch. And hopefully if we make enough noise...

Right there man.

I'd like to hear some comments from people who never played the saga before

I'm a last hour fan of Sucker Punch but the Sly series never really attracted me

I've only ever played the first Sly, and only about 2 years ago at that. However, this HD remake looks fantastic. The art direction really holds up well seeing as the game is something like 8 years old. The picture is very clean and the framerate seems solid from the little bit that I have played.

I am really pleased with Sony putting real effort into this HD collections, and I will be happy to support them if they continue these trends. R&C, J&D and Ico/SoTC would go a long way to scratch my nostalgia itch. If other companies are interested then I would love HD MGS and Onimusha as well.

Holy shit. That's the whole reason I was buying the collection, control frustration on the PS2 kept me from finishing Sly 1.

Really? I was thrown for a loop for an hour or so when I first picked it up but it wasn't an issue after that. Like any other control scheme, you get used to it. Except for Halo grenades. I will never get used to that.

I think it's pretty ridiculous they didn't fix this for the collection though... basic camera control isn't something you should have to "get used to". There's no good reason to force it one way or the other. It's like if a dev suddenly decided to switch the sticks and make camera on the left... people would be like wtf... with good reason.

Sly might be my favorite game series... but I hate inverted controls. Hopefully enough people complain about it that it gets someone's attention.

God if the eventual Jak collection is forced inverted I'll be so pissed. I can kind of overlook it for Sly, because it's Sly, but anything else I don't know.

I'm getting tired of retraining myself... I though that died with last gen.

I'm already at 60% completion for Sly Cooper. I might have the game 100%ed and Platinum'd by the end of tonight, which is super fast for me. I don't move on from a level until I've got the key and unlocked the vault. It's such a great game, especially when it picks up later on, and the MT speed runs add a whole new challenge. I love the way Sly controls, and his animation is perfect.

Aside from the unskippable cutscenes, the only thing that detracts from the experience is the minigames. They're not that bad, I can usually get them over with in a few tries at most but some rely too much on trial and error and they're really not that fun to begin with. Oh well, such a classic game and it looks damn good in this collection.

It's not as pronounced as a game developed from scratch to incorporate 3D but it definitely makes a big difference. Plus I haven't really noticed any frame rate hits with 3D (vs. say Black Ops).

For me the added depth perception of 3D sort of helps negate the occasionally crummy camera perspective (super close and tight) which can give you a terrible view of where you want to jump to. Obviously in STT&TC certain power ups help you with this also. Have yet to get deep into Sly 2 & 3.

Honestly I am just loving the entire package. I forgot how much I love Sly Cooper's "easy to play but 1/2 hit kill system" that, even though the gameplay is relatively easy, keeps you on edge all the time.

I am however, not a fan of Sly's 'no real additional height double jump'. Reminds me of the damn HD Simpsons game. :-(

you can choose between Camera: Normal/Inverted but that's it. You can't customize by axis or the speed.

Are the developer commentary rewards still in for beating Sly 1 levels tine trials?

One of the coolest aspects of the first game. Earning some of those commentaries required some serious skill. In fact the entire design transition made in Sly2/3 just turned me off the series entirely because it was THOSE trials that made me fall head over heels in love with Sly.

I picked this up from Best Buy a bit ago. I had to ask the guy to look and see if they had it. Of course, he goes to the PS3 section first as if I hadn't looked there already. He had a copy in the warehouse though. I'll try it tonight at some point.

So I'm not sure the problem people are having in the thread, then if you can choose between normal and inverted? They want inverted for one and not the other? I would figure it would be easier to have normal for both.

I just got home with the game... I'll check it out and post impressions.

Edit: lots of camera options in Sly 1... you can select normal/inverted individually for gameplay/turrets/binoculars/flying.

So far I can't really move the camera up/down... but I have the feeling it's going to be all inverted vs all normal.

I don't think you can have inverted Y normal X and vice versa. (unless I just don't see the option)

OMG... I forgot how much I love these games.

I had a feeling Sly 1 was going to feel really dated, but the game looks amazing and feels so good. Animation still looks great even by today's standards. And the characters are charming as ever.

So glad I bought this right away. :D
