I am excited. Maybe they make the film into a series or limited run series? Like a prequel
Tbh I couldn’t see the kid looking like Tony too much until the speaker part just that look. Shit that’s a young Tony.
also it’s his son in real life. I think his dad would be proud. Wow. I can’t wait to watch this.

Really? No wonder he gets that took in his eyes, what makes me think its Tony straight away

Also I've never watched the series, cant find it anywhere to stream in uk

Pretty sure david chase is sick to death of the sopranos and has spent the last year and a half (what with this movie, this movie being delayed twice due to test audiences hating it, the hacky scene he wrote of the characters in a zoom meeting during the pandemic, and the podcast out where the hosts all but admit they hate this show after so many years) trying to ruin it.

Because it's an HBO show it should be on Sky's streaming service. If you don't have that then picking up the DVDs/Blurays is a good investment, believe the hype.

It shows why Tony was so protective of that little weasel Christopher in the show because it was Christopher’s dad who took Tony under his wing.
Also, having recently finished a rewatch, the idea that Tony's idol wasn't quite as great as Tony thought he was is something that was planted in the show.

How do you not watch it if you’re his son? Seems kinda fucked.
I imagine it might be hard on the kid considering he's lost his dad at a very young age to see him 'alive' on screen. Plus James played a ruthless mob boss and a cheating husband in the show while being a very positive, warm person in real life.

Well, you do make good points. I stand corrected, fine sir!

I kinda hope we don't get a definitive answer to this. I liked that it's open to audience interpretation in the show. In my opinion, Tony was absolutely lying to him but leaving it hanging is more interesting.
He's probably tired of the show's more annoying fanbase constantly asking him about it. He gave an answer as to what happened to the russian in pine barrens eventually too.

Ah really? I'll need to make sure to try and avoid that.

Having rewatched the show, it’s surprising how well it does things better than contemporary television. It’s un-PC, frank and honest depiction of its characters and environment are still a step above binge-watch tv of today. The fact that it chose to do the opposite of jumping the shark and becoming an episodic, slice-of-life narrative is still unusual. Just look at the finale.

I remember people were complaining about “The Wire” because it had plots that “went no where” in comparison to “CSI”……
I meant more along the lines of the fact that it still has really goofy 1950s punching and kicking sound effects, which was jarring for me the first time I watched it a few years ago. Cinematically you can tell how it changed television, but there are still production aspects that let you know it's not actually a modern show, while still pushing the television format closer in the direction we have today.

What’s an example of a modern show that bests the production aspects of the Sopranos?

I was wondering if that was his son or someone else with cgi/deep fake. Pretty uncanny resemblance.

Why does everyone look like they have CGI faces? Too much make-up? Something weird with the post-production? Either way some of the close-ups look horrifying lol.

It’s a very soft look for sure. It’s shot on the Alexa LF, so it’s an artistic choice. Also, it’s not make up - it’s the color grading’s affect on skin tones. The look isn’t my cup of tea either, but hopefully substance over style.

NB: it’s from IGN, but the info seems decent.

I’m not sure what to make of Livia’s portrayal. In the Sopranos, even in flashbacks, she was always portrayed as a nasty woman with psychological issues. I don’t think there’s much an “arc” to that nor could a person have much agency over that, but we’ll see.

Making it Dickie’s story seems like a good angle. He defined Christopher in a rather deep way.

Aw man, you didn't like the ending? That's a shame. I love it.

Just curious, what do you think happened at the end?

I just caught this, but there's a scene where Tony's facing the door of Holsten's. This is the same old fashioned burger joint where the Soprano's ends. It would actually be cool if the movie started with this scene.

I've still never been to Holsten's and am dying to try it, but I have been to Satriale's, Tony's House, and the Bada Bing (known as Satin Dolls IRL).

Don't know tbh, I was hoping to see a figure that looked like Paulie standing behind

It could go either way, im just disappointed there wasn't more to it

There's not much interpretation. Chase confirmed it's what most people thought.
I was just curious since a lot of people don't pick up on it after watching it for the first time.

The common interpretation is that
Tony gets shot and dies. The sudden cut is a foreshadowed with Bobby's "you probably don't even hear it when it happens" line earlier that season and the ending scene sets up the pattern of the entrance bell ringing, Tony looking up at the door and us then seeing what he sees. When he looks up for the last time it cuts to black because he's no longer seeing anything./SPOILER]

There's also the line about
everything going black when it happens.

People suspect the guy in the members only jacket as being the guy who did it so keep an eye on him if you do. He looks over at Tony on a few occasions and he walks to the bathroom not long before the end, which is reminiscent of Michael retrieving a gun from the restaurant bathroom in The Godfather .

As Manabyte mentioned, there's a bunch of discussion earlier in the season about how when you die you won't realise it's happened.

I'm sure there will be youtube videos or articles breaking it down better than I ever could. People have been talking about it since it aired.

When it aired cable companies were spammed with calls from people thinking their HBO cut out.

I still say it would have been better if Chase had subverted expectations and had Tony abscond to a desert island and become a hermit instead.

Imagine how much whining there would be from the YouTubers there would be if the Sopranos ending aired today.
