The reason they're starting with communities is so the moderation staff can cope with the approval process in smaller chunks. Imagine they opened the registration to everyone at once, it would be crippling. Not to mention 4chan/gamergaters/alt-right are at the ready to infiltrate and DDoDs the site at any opportunity, so the approval process needs to be as stringent as ever in the opening days/weeks of the site.
I say this as someone who is also not part of any of the communities and won't be getting an invite until they get around to it. Stop thinking of only yourself.

I would also appreciate an invite to resetera.
During another ban I was able to lurk Neogaf at work but not that ban. It got my work computer too..it sucked cause it lasted so long. But hey, I still came back always daily after the ban lift..that says something about this place. I guess it is just a place I have gotten too used to.

They should open it to X amount of people at a time rather than giving communities priority

Yeah fair point, people do make mistakes, it's how they deal with them and more importantly if they keep making them.

Nope. Between that and trying to shutdown ERA talk (and everything else, obviously) he is really not looking great right now.
If you think this is only the second chance then you need to do some looking around.

I'm quite aware of that and good luck to them but more members will join GAF and the cycle will continue whether you or anyone else wants to admit it.
GAF will be here in a year just as strong as it was a year ago, maybe stronger. It's going nowhere.
So it has 100 000 members then. My point still stands. It's the biggest gaming forum online with a brand name.

I'm hoping for a code to the other forum as well. I loved posting here, and I'll always be grateful for the time I spent here, and all the GREAT insight into the industry I was offered by this community. I'm not interested in making any accusations. I just spent a bit of time reflecting on the (very sudden, for someone who didn't pay attention to the longer-term drama) recent events, and I came to the conclusion that I simply don't feel super comfortable being active on here without having more clarity on the whole situation. There's so much noise and so many seemingly hateful people with ill-intent spreading bits and pieces of the information, it's hard to wrap my head around everything.
That said, I will pay attention to how things unfold, and may make the decision to be active in this community. I just want to let the dust settle for now, and think about it more. But for now, I need more time and, hopefully, new developments.

I don't know if toxic is the correct word but there were certainly threads that seemed downright angry and hate filled. I get that some topics can become rather heated but the amount of dog-piling and ban baiting was atrocious. I hope that going forward, we can focus on discussing things like adults and refrain from mud slinging and name calling.
I tended to align/agree with the majority of GAFers but even the ones I didn't, I always respected their pov and was interested in what they had to say as long as they made a reasonable attempt at rational discourse. BANs are always going to be necessary but they should be the exception, not handed out like candy.
Had to join one of gaf's community on discord. I was lucky I was joined on spatoon 2 discord, and got invites to the main discord. Don't think they are giving out invites currently.

All the onboarding right now is being done via community Discords - the various community leaders verified folks were Gaffers and then fired out short-term codes so folks could sign up. Those codes rapidly expire. There's no "invite link" or anything.
General signups will be later on, maybe a few days from now, and it's basically the same system as getting membership and posting rights on GAF.
If you're a member who can swing access onto one of the various GAF Discords and has not already done so, then you should get on there and ask around.
For others, just wait a week or whatever and join normally. Given that it's just another gaming forum from this site's perspective it's hopefully not a big deal for me to post this.
