The success of Black Myth: Wukong is securing funding for several Chinese studios and games, including a major PS5 exclusive.

It's fantastic to see the success of Chinese developers, and I'm curious to see what blockbuster exclusive Sony has secured.

They made some BIG money from this game. If they can replicate what they've done with a similar budget that Wukong had, then its a no brainer. Imagine if their next game features Jackie Chan as the main protagonist.

It's so wonderful to see just one good, commercially successful game can transform the mindset of several developers and reshape the gaming landscape of ane entire country.

Big win for gamers! :messenger_heart:

I LOVVVEDD the PS1 Jackie Chan game. Had so much fun with it, and it was so well-made for that time.

At this point I would like to know which studios we're talking about here because, yeah, no doubt that Sony is looking to produce more AAA games in China; they confirmed that they were publishing two Chinese games (Convallaria and Lost Soul Aside) ever since Hermen Hulst hinted at this over three years ago. Not-Japan Studio will be doing a lot of work in the coming years.
I'm still waiting for Lost Soul Aside
Sigh... early 2025 for sure!

Eastern action games that are fun, cool, and feel like the old action games that were good, compared to the modern Western homogenized, big budget, graphics for the masses, recurring transaction fests that butcher legacy games instead of paying homage? Sign me up.

Im in for the double trouble, isekai cultivation and hell, add dungeons/player lvls on top , love those novels/mangas :)
I would kill for Lord of Mysteries game. That shit was :messenger_fire:

Imagine a lovecraftian class based Batman detective game set in the Victorian period.

Yes, it is Chinese. I highly recommend it.

Looking at Black Myth: Wukong people cannot even really complain about graphics. Sure, it could be optimised a bit better on consoles but it is quite an UE5 showcase to be fair. Even DF's review on PC was mostly celebratory.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not trashing good graphics, nor am I saying that Wukong looks bad. Not at all. I'm more referring to certain aesthetics or visual tropes instead of a focus on style and art direction themed for the setting and type of game and gameplay.

No no, I got you no worries. What I was saying is that it is a defense of the status quo. Either accept A or B… then out of left field someone comes with C.

Like in the late 90's and early 00's you either had "good" UI on Windows but not great stability or Linux for the opposite (and other problems, but worked well for devs)… then Mac OS X landed…

Okay. Just hope the Chinese government doesn't throw a hissyfit in the future and screws over those devs, because yeah...that is a possibility. Good luck to the devs though.

Although Chinese and S. Korean devs are still heavily focused on MMOs and mobile, it's good to see some love for the consoles.

It's the best damn looking game with everything enabled, that's a big part of why it was such a big deal.

I'd love a game like that, old school 80s or 90s setting, no supernatural, no magic, nothing, just pure hand-to-hand action adventure craziness. But I think there's a chance they make something good, since they're not caring about western political and social perversions.

i bet gaming journalist will pretend china game doesn't exist, because the country itself doesn so hot on DEI and they can survive on their own without foreign market

I'll believe it when I see it.

In any case it won't be a true exclusive, just more a console exclusive with a Day 1 PC release on Steam most likely, considering the market and what platform dominates gaming in China.

Maybe SIE are getting more aggressive to expand PS market share in places like China? Perhaps, but given recent moves I doubt it. If they really want to compete with PS in the hardware sense, they have to finally recognize that platforms like PC are still a competitor (even stronger of one now than Xbox), even though they aren't direct competition. Which means utilizing any Day 1 software support there just weakens the selling proposition of the console.

Also just wondering who would the studio even be; the frontrunner would probably be Game Science. If we're talking a "big" PS5 exclusive from that region, I'd think it means AAA, and GS are the ones who have delivered a mainstream AAA (tho with its budget, AA) success in BMW. But all the same, this could just as easily be some GAAS title and, again, given current SIE's mindset, I wouldn't be surprised if that is more likely the case.

Soon to be our new gaming overlords.

Not as technically obsolete as Japan, not conformed to woke shit like the west

Not long before they start producing game of the generation type stuff

Exactly!!!! And yet "they" say single player games are dead. "THEY" say sales don't matter. It's just about the MAUs.

Good! Asia has been killing it lately. I'm waiting for my disc copy of Wukong, and I'm for sure pre-ordering all of the other upcoming action titles (Lost Soul, Phantom Zero, etc...).

good for China, its always good to have more international devs. with different mindsets in the mix. That's the kind of diversity we need in the gaming space.

Or because China itself it's transparent and it's hard to get real information out of that country. Keep that in mind too.

Lmao, when it come to transparent, not even weatern studio give out real information, they hide alot of shady shit that we need whistleblower to know about it later on,let just talk about how good game it, and it will be almost non exist for gaming journalist, even BMW being ignore by some so call GOTY vote now

There's a weird Chinese WW2 Call of Duty esque game floating around that looks interesting - it's called The Defiant.

i am so thrist for old school FPS game, especially WWII and time before, remember i stop play CoD when they release modern warfare because modern war and its weapon never my interest

Man.......China really is starting to catch up huh?

Was only a matter of time.

It's a country with ~1.5 billion people where there is a culture for strong work ethic. There will be a ton of talented people there who will be willing to do what it takes to excel in this industry.

And their issues with narrative and character won't really matter like they do in their movies.
