Anyone else really sad about the Barons story? On the way back to the baron after trying to save his wife, i was so shocked to see him hanging there, really made me sad.

Its such a great storyline, learned so much about one character

I keep forgeting to ask, can you get a place to mount up all these tropgies or something, or is there a store that will pay top coin for them? if not ill just sell them to a random vendor tbh, its not like I need gold anyway (got like 8k atm)

No, but a dude in a church to the east of Novigrad will buy them for full price. He only carries 500 coins though.

Yep,I was hoping for something more or better but at the same time,it really caught me by surprise so it worked in that sense...

Not having fun fighting multiple enemies. I don't expect them to sit around and wait their turn like the AC series but I'm findining no rhyme or reason when fighting 4-8 of them.

Yea the combat in this game is pretty bad. Maybe it wouldn't be bad if the controls were better but everything is so non responsive in this game. I mean for fucks sake, when you press X on your horse it takes at least 3 seconds for your horse to even move. Very annoying stuff.

On a positive note I finally crafted the Griffin armor and got out of the Temerian set, so thats cool. I'm loving everything about this game except for the bugs and controls. Lets get some fixes for that and this game has GOTY potential.

Are there any really OP builds? I wanna be powerful as shit.

For 1 on 1 fights especially big boss types I have a nice Axii/sword build that pretty much can stunlock non stop and use signs all the time with adrenaline points.

Isn't Geralt's mutation supposed to make him emotionless? If that's the case, why does he has affections for Yen, Ciri, Triss, etc? Shouldn't he be completely indifferent to everyone?

Ahhh, I keep getting stuck in the indoor walking animation when I use a specific place of power. That's annoying.

Nope apparently it's when I loot the box right next to it.

I just constantly dodge and try to find openings, throw down a slow sign (Yrden) to break them up a bit or roll away to create some distance.

I'm playing on the highest difficulty so you kinda have to do those things or you're dead.

looking at the ending requirements i can tell this game is gonna have a great be a total asshole playthrough that i usually do on my second playthrough

Pick your shots. You can riposte most monsters that attack in swarms. Make liberal use of bombs. Dancing stars combined with dragon's dream are really effective against groups.

I have the most fun fighting groups, using dodge to avoid hits among the crowd makes it feel so much alive.

That said if you find it difficult, use Quen, Yrden, or keep distance and spam Igni.

Dodge more, or acquire skills like Aard sweep or Upgraded Yrden that deals with enemies 360° around you. Witcher's combat doesn't follow Hollywood rules for fighting. If a nearby enemy sees an opening, they're going to take it.

Always try to stay on the fringes of the battle in higher difficulties, so you can engage the enemies on your terms as much as possible.

You need to control the crowd.

If you only have the first row of upgrades available for each...I only have alternate modes for Yrden and Axii so this is all pretty early game:
  • Yrden is nearly essential if you are dealing with over 3 enemies. Alternate form is boss and let's you take even more control of the level layout by setting an area as dangerous for enemies for a long period of time.
  • Exploding Quen shields are also pretty good if you prefer to get into the middle of encounters
  • Aard and Igni are great for temporarily stunning a few foes in a crowd
  • Axii is amazing at taking a specific tough enemy out of the fight (or for taking out enemies one at a time). Alternate form of this is fantastic, control a tough enemy and watch as he/she/it tears into your foes
  • Samum and Grapeshot bombs are also hugely useful for tightly knit chaotic encounters and are great at controlling and thinning enemy numbers, respectively

Playing on Blood and Broken Bones and the combat is pretty fucking amazing, if I had to be honest. Loving how many different tools you have to control the flow of battle. The chaotic 6+ foe encounters always see me using at least 3 signs + at least 2 potions + bombs

Mash the dodge button while going left or right (not roll) and the quick slash attack repeatedly. I find the ai can't react quick enough to how fast Geralt can dodge.

I'm thankfully not a sensitive woman, but I wonder really what it's like to be one. It must feel like constantly being defeated. I'm a straight white male, so gaming reinforces my political stance in the world in full.

People complain that these games and other fantasy worlds that feature violence towards women are instead supposed to be exemplary in representation, but I understand it as being dystopic in a sexist and racist way to showcase how awful it is and a political climate no one should want. You can have these elements without exploring them directly, but I suppose it would beg criticisms of denying responsibility. I think Witcher does a good job of showing everyone outside of the main character, who is nearly a century old wise, surrounded by the insufferable archetypes that reflect our real world counterparts.

I've seen similar criticism about the earlier Mad Max movies. But I suppose it's the idea that satire and dystopia is less effective and less understood in general than engaging representation.

Kind of like the song "Born in the USA" being mistaken by some as some kind of patriotic anthem.
