Do I have to have Axii equipped as my active sign before entering a conversation for it to be useable in a conversation?

I have it completely upgraded in tier 1 and 1/3 in tier 2 but it never seems to be an option in conversations.

Can you use it against merchants for better prices?
You only need the conversation ability upgrade equipped.

You only get the option once in a while though it more often than not gets really good results

No, you don't need to have it selected before starting a conversation (that would make no sense when you think about it).

You need to assign the upgraded skill to a slot on the skill system for it to take effect.

You cannot influence merchants as far as I know.

It doesn't have to be your active sign but the upgrades have to be slotted.
Bear in mind that if your Axii level is too low, you'll see the conversation option but will be unable to choose it. If you're not seeing any options at all, then they're simply not there and you aren't missing anything.

You buy maps in vendors. And he's not wrong about the loot, I just don't care because I don't view this as a loot game like a diablo for example.

is there a spezific vendor that sells the maps for the enhanced/superior and mastercrafted witcher sets? maye it's unlocked later in the main story.

I completed all the treasure hunts for griffin, feline and ursine sets, all of them with story and letters and after I finished them they did not lead to quets for the enhanced, superior or mastercrafted sets. and I didn't find any letters on all of those either.

You will find that merchants sell maps that are numbered. Something like Witcher Bort's First, Second, Third and Fourth map.

You need to read the maps to get the quests.

Various merchants have them. Just make sure you scan their inventory for maps and diagrams whenever you meet a new one.

Question from a Gwent newbie:

Where is a good location to go to start playing with the easiest opponents to get a grasp of how the game plays? I missed the tutorial guy thinking he'd be there before I left or when I came back later and he still isn't there. Everyone I play seems to be really hard so I'm not sure where the best starting point would be.

Also anyone know how to get the Baron's rare card after his quest line is over? I didn't think that was the last time id see him and I never had the balls to try him in gwent lol.

CD Projekt, too good.

But I have to agree with the menu related complaints. I opted for an alchemy build and at times I was about to lose my mind navigating those pages.

Ok i am really sick of navigating those gdamned menus in order to use potions... I am playing on death march and obviously potions are crucial to my success. And I have to scroll through a fuckton of books and notes just to use them...

I honestly dont know who at CDPR found this a good idea, and I dont get why they didnt at least put them on top of your inventory like oils...

.

i agree. they should have made it easier to scroll through oils at least. map it to touch pad or similar. i don't want to open a menu to apply oils every time.

I got all the maps before reaching Act 1. I just buy them from BS vendors across Vallen.
But I found like 80% of MC gear of all schools before even the basic gear due to me just going to every POI on the map.
The basic gear was harder to track down ironically.

You just need to buy the 3x commander cards and you can faceroll a lot of the gray merchant/innkeeper gwent players.
Then you can start playing quest gwent players, and they are mostly easy as well. They will give you so many rare cards that gwent will become a joke.
You can get the Baron's spy card on his desk.

I absolutely check every vendor I meet for both gwent and their recipes, and the only maps I found so far there fast travel unlocks in skellige, and I read them all. I guess the witcher set maps are unlocked at some point in the main story, I am really not far there.

Yes to equiped (like every skill) no to vendors

those letters/notes/etc.. in your usable items, is there any point holding onto them once you have read them? they are cluttering my inventory :(

I tried to hold on to them for a very long time. Eventually it took me like 10sec of scrolling past them just to get to my potions so I finally sold them all.
Important notes go to the "quest items" tab but after the quest is completed and the note is no longer needed it goes to the "usable items" tab where you can safely sell it.
Same thing with quest items which after the quest is finished go to the "junk" tab.

I wish TW3 had a huge glossary like TW1 and 2 :(

The no XP bug, does it come and go?

I wasn't getting XP during the Bloody Baron's quests so I did secondary missions and Witcher contracts instead.
Eventually I leveled up so much the Bloody Baron's quest went grey so I did it any way.
The very last mission in that quest line I did get XP for though.

Is it just random if the main quests give you XP or not?

Yeah, I'm of two minds on Witcher sets.
On the one hand it's all "badass Witcher, fuck yeah" but OTOH, every now and then someone will give me their legendary family heirloom sword and I'll be like "cool story bro but my Witcher sword ploughs your old ass tin junk".
Nevermind that from that point every super secret treasure is just an opportunity to test my weight limit and I'll end up throwing elven relics in the gutter behind the brothel.
They really should've added some kind of upgrade system. Off the top of my head, an infinite money sink system like Dungeon Defenders would've been fucking awesome. It'd give you something to do with your cash and you could use your favorite weapon for however long you want. Make it so you can't upgrade it beyond your player level so they don't get overpowered, just stay good enough to be competetive. With the current system, you have to throw out priceless relics after every single quest and it's a bit of a bummer. I'd love to still be using that fancy-looking elven rapier...

Ive got 5 skillpoints to spend but Im so afraid :)
Like I posted earlier, the respect potion becomes incredibly common later on and there's no reason to care about your skilltree since you can always change it whenever you want.

Man, thank you so much to the guy who made this. Playing on Deathmarch and having faster load times and some in-game load tips instead of listening to the recap over and over again is wonderful.

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. It would be great if a game gives you some kind of vault for safekeeping. A vendor or some kind, like that bank dwarf guy in Novigrad would be perfect.

Just regular old Velen merchants. Innkeepers can be a bit harder

Then it seems you're not looking at the inventories of armorsmiths and blacksmiths in particular hard enough, because many of them tend to have treasure maps. Their sprites always look like pieces of paper that have been folded into four and then re-opened

I ended up selling even Yen's letter already in White Orchard. There is no point in hanging on to them once you've read them.

If I didn't sell them, Geralt would be like a walking bookstore by now.

Ive never played a Witcher game but the game is so good. It is so fcking big, so much to do.
Amazing sidequest where you find yourself playing a sidequest for 2 hours.

I will definitely do that, thanks for the heads up.

and of course that means it's true that looting is really not worth it if the game leads you to the best gear like that.

you got infinite uses of that potion or is it limited use?
Single use. The potion is called Potion of Clearance and it costs 1000-1200 coin.

But you will find a lot of them on various merchants later on. People are speculating whether this will get patched.

I don't really mind. It just means I can easily respec when I mess up.

The respec potion is single use for 1k crowns a pop.

Though there is an alchemist in east side of Ard Skellig that has like 5 of them
The magic trinket merchant in Novigrad, next to the barber, can restock his respec potion so they're effectively infinite use at this point. I've bought several off of him.

Careful you don't quaff these in the middle of a fight and then realize all your advanced skills are gone.

What is the best way to earn a lot of money (besides missions)?
Wraith and other common monster farming.

Most of the monster bits sell for a good amount of coin. Wraiths drop jewel dust that sells for massive amounts (relatively speaking).

Early on, it's easiest to get bigger saddlebags and loot everything you come across. Selling silver tea pots and jewelry from monster nest lootings will get you a lot of coin. Meteorite and Dimetrium ore also sell for a lot, and you won't have a use for them until a very late level.

You know that feeling when a game is really special? The Witcher 3 is really a new standard for videogames in general. Can't wait to see it's inclusion in many "best game of all-time" threads and polls in the future.

This fucking game, guys. We should treasure this moment. Five years from now, we'll be wishing we could erase our memories and experience it again.

CDPR should invest in pharmaceutics and develop a proper Potion of Clearance. With side-effects like forgetting how to walk, take a shit or talk.

In five years time, we will have their cyberpunk game though.

Mr. Community
Vendors never clear the items you sell to them, right?

I'm just about this close to selling everything I have, the inventory clutter and associated lag is annoying.
