got my Mastercraft stuff (and again, Im 1 lvl short so I have to walk around in some other shitty gear, and pantless in this case lol) and my superior swallow (among other pots), so Im just about ready to finish the game. Just roading up some contracts and sidequests to get lvl 31 (and use the gear) and then Ill finish it

It's weird feeling when your quest log only has 1 story mission, 3 purely trivial secondary missions and 2 high level contracts left in it.

Speaking of that what is the highest level people have reached in the game. I saw that there are level 46 items..

I've read complaints about about not being able to level up past 70 despite CDPR claiming a level cap doesn't exist. I've not looked into the matter, but perhaps it's just an oversight in the level system -- i.e. the game doesn't let players hit 71 because at 70 there is no longer anything to level up.

I played on second highest difficulty and finished a bit shy of level 35. I did mostly everything I feel. Not sure how hard I got hit by the XP bug.

I got to level 25 before XP bug became a thing and I stopped playing in wait for fix. Now after fix my quests give me 5 XP / quest so my leveling has basically fully stopped. How far up in level story missions get, next for me is 19?

Just finished the game on Broken Bones difficulty, I loved it overall and was raging when
Ciri didn't pay homage to Skjall in the Payback mission. I literally thought the devs forgot about him, then I was relieved to see the Sjkall's grave mission towards the end of the game. Poor lad, everyone thought he was a craven, at least Ciri gave him a kiss in my play through.

I'm wondering whether to attempt death march now...hmmm...

Yeah, later quest levels are early 30s. But some of the later main quests give you a ton of XP. You'll jump a few levels.

I'm having trouble getting through some of the jank in this game. I was doing a treasure hunt for the Viper School Gear, and the door to the cellar in the White Orchard cemetary just wont open. I knocked down the front door, walk down the stairs, and the gate is just locked. I am at the appropriate level, I have the first diagram, it can't be blown or smashed open. I watched a few guides on YouTube and it seemingly is just supposed to be open the whole time. I think it's a glitch and is just unopenable.

I know this is a trivial side quest but why should I keep going with this? It feels broken in spots.

Nope, they give no exp.

Have you been completing grey quests? They're quests for which you're "over-levelled" and I've read here and there that they didn't award any XP previously.

Thought this was funny. Just did the master alchemist quest on skellige where you need to help the one Druid create a rain storm. But everytime it rains Geralt complains about the storm or something.

So we completed the ritual which is good yet Geralt still commented, haha.

Regarding the Gwent cards, is it wise to buy every card available at a merchant selling them?

And is there any quick or reliable way to get money? Or is it just a manner of looting, quests and the like?

Additionally, is it wise to try and take care of as much of the side quests and such before tackling main stuff or could that cause problems leveling?

Yes! And always be on the lookout for playing people in side-quests, some of the cards can be missed, unless you can reload a save. In terms of money, I tended to carry lots of weapon using the fiend decoction (allows you to carry more) and sell them, rather than dropping. Also, I hear buy sea shells, dismantling them to pearls and selling the pearls is an effective way of making money.

If you have the money, might as well buy them all. There's really not much out there to buy in the game, aside from formulas.

As for quick ways to get money, just do witcher contracts and sell whatever loot you find at the appropriate vendors. It adds up pretty quick. After a few hours in Velen I never hurt for money again.

I did a mix of side quests and main quests, but generally I found myself above the level of the main quests I did. But as you get used to the game and get some decent equipment you'll probably find most quests to be incredibly easy unless it's around 10 levels above yours.

Alchemy's pretty bugged now. I can no longer transmute lower mutagens into higher. The game says that I've already used the formula so it assumes I don't need to use it again. ..but that's not how mutagens are supposed to work.
workaround: drop crafted mutagen, craft new mutagen, pick up previously dropped mutagen
By the way, is there a way to break down monster-specific mutagens into base mutagens? I'm pretty sure there was a way to do this in earlier patches. Can't figure out how to do it now.
I would like this also (damned red mutagens)

Yes, and after it's a pain to remember where the hell was the trader that had the cards. You will win more money later.

Money is won mainly by looting everything and anything. Clean every village throughly, and clean every question mark. Remember you can also sell crafting components, so as you start to accumulate several of one type, you should start to sell them.

Try to mix it up side quests and main quest. Usually do whatever mission is of lower level, but don't let the main quest too forgotten, do it if you already are two level above it.

I know that 1.05 changed how much XP greys give and I think it's for better. Before you zoomed right past level of content at hand, I have been over leveled basically ever since of early Velen. It just creates this fun situation where some have very high levels because of pre-1.05 XP gains and for others now to get there you need insane grind/farm of random monsters.

Giving levels with debug console doesn't count as gaining levels as you cheat it.

I have gotten to know Yen more now and
apparently she hates oak furniture, a lot.

WTF. I'm doing the Carnal Sins quest

When I search for clues in the ally, every time some guys block off the alley and try to fist fight me 3 on 1. it's bullshit and there is no explanation. This is one of the things that pises me off in this game - no warning and no reason for enemies attacking you sometimes.

There's a reason but yea that part of the quest is a pain, especially on the higher difficulties.

I'm at a point where none of the random traders or blacksmiths which I beat for the first time give me any Gwent cards and I've done all the secondary Gwent quests (except the one to collect all the cards).
It seems like I'm missing the third Eredin card which gives a buff to close combat units... Maybe I'll get it later once I get further in the story? I'm still at Act 1.

any tips for fistfighting?

Seems like you counter one guy and punch him, but while you're doing that, another guy punches you.

only advice is to try to separate them by dodging back and fighting them one on one as much as possible. When you're far enough from an enemy the AI will opt to do the strong punch, which is telegraphed and can be easily countered.

Uhh there's definitely a reason for that, spoilers if you haven't finished the fight yet;

The people are friends of Priscilla and are waiting there to attack the person who messed her up, because they figure they always return to the scene of the crime. It's supposed to be an ambush.

Fist fights blow on harder difficulties though, I feel your pain.

When it's 1 on 1, I usually wait for the long wind up punch, counter, strong attack, 2 light attacks, back up and repeat. Occasionally they mix it up with quick punches, but most of the time you can lock them into that pattern. Against multiple people it's basically counter, strong attack, back up, repeat and pray they don't swarm you.

Despite the combat being a disappointing gut check for me around every corner due to the open world design, and despite many other little things that add up with it, Witcher 3 is fantastic and CDPR learn so fuckin much from every game they make insane progression and I can't wait for Cyberpunk.

If they can make a game with some sweet combat I can get into and take as much learning as their previous endeavors and grow with their next game, I can see Cyberpunk being a fucking insane Deus Ex / Prey 2 concept everyone would be floored by.

What don't you like about the combat?

Not just the best game I've played this year, but one of the best games I've EVER played. Been thinking about it since I ended it some hours ago. I want to go back NOW!

which signs is best to upgrade first?

Quen, Igni, and Axii are all really great paths.

Quen is defensive, Igni is offensive, and Axii is somewhere in between. I say Quen mostly though, because it's equally good against everything and can really save you in a pinch.
