What don't you like about the combat?

The only thing I like about it, is that it promotes preparation with the bestiary and such, but in reality that only really speeds up the process with pure numbers most the time.

People compare it Souls games for some reason, which I find completely well, wrong / not even close to be truthful. I can see people trying to argue that combat makes you commit to actions but here's the thing, when you attack it's animation fluff, there's no set movelist so you get a randomized attack sliding you towards your enemy that you're committed to, being locked into something like that where you don't have a truely invincible dodge (perks help) and hitboxes (especially on boss type) are just as bad as the worst souls hit boxes aren't great. (And the bosses really were a disappointment to me IMO, they really show how mechanically linear the combat is, and while being how a correct build can make it even more so.)
The only real utility stuff I find in combat is actually the bomb stuff that sometimes do interesting things.

I mean the combat isn't offensive to the point to hate it, but it's just a constant fluff time waster to me personally, no open world game even tries as much as Witcher 3 in this regard but really I'd rather cut to the chase in Skyrim (I play thief/assassins always) as their Stealth mechanics are actually decent and instagib dudes with min maxed backstabbing.

WTF. I'm doing the Carnal Sins quest

When I search for clues in the ally, every time some guys block off the alley and try to fist fight me 3 on 1. it's bullshit and there is no explanation. This is one of the things that pises me off in this game - no warning and no reason for enemies attacking you sometimes.
You can drop bombs on them, and "kill" them with two shots.

Anyone else notice the bug where Geralt is constantly getting wet for no reason? lol. Happens all the time when I leave the inventory or equip new armor, you'll pop back into the game and he'll be soaking wet for a minute before drying off. On ps4.

It's a shame there's no transmog feature because there are a lot of good looking weapons, specifically the Scoia'tael swords imo, that just aren't worth using.

So I've ran into a bug and I'm curious if theres a way of fixing it without going back to one of my older saves.

I got the bug which lets Roach hover in the air when I was heading to Novigrad for the first time and I decided to see how high I could get. I discovered a signpost outside of the city and after that I dismounted Roach and fell to my death. However when I load the most recent save I spawn high up in the air on Roach and end up falling to my death each time I load my save. I'm not losing much if I reload an older save but I'd prefer not to.

Warning of a bug for those doing the missing miners dlc quest.
Don't attack the troll in the cave. Just dodge his attacks until he starts a dialogue. If you hit him, he will converse with you and (with me it did) it will bug out and he will attack you regardless of your choice. He killed me in one shot before I was even able to move.

Yeah, ran into that myself and reloaded before the fight ended.

I'm currently working on Gwent Skellige style quest. I just finished the beating
gremist
and now it says to move on to
Lugo the Madman
, but there's no quest marker. Was he the
guy in the cage I let die when I killed the frost giant? Or someone who was killed during the banquet? I'm wondering if my quest is bugged or if I just got the relevant NPC killed.

No that's Vigi the Loon. Lugos the Madman should be in the settlement in the south of Ard Skellig.

*Roach stops for no reason*
*Roach stops because he possibly stubbed hoof on rock*
*Roach stops just because.*

"Roach you piece of shit. If I could turn you into some sort of crafting glue I would."

I have 80 hours into this game and I believe I am still in act 1. I just got to skellige, this game is going to ruin a lot of future rpgs for me :(

Well, I've done it to myself once again. I have been playing this game so much, for such long stretches and rather than stay on the main quest I have OCD'd every single side thing in Velen and Novingrad, that I just got to Skellig Islands at level 19 with about 70 hours play time and am now bored to death with the whole thing. I bumped up the difficulty to try and get some fire back but all I have to do is Quen, slash, Circle. Repeat. Maybe I need to put it down for a bit and go check out Elder Scrolls next week. I know I'm burnt when I start mashing square button to burn through the talky parts.

Why do I do this to myself? Did it in Skyrim and MGS4, too. Ugh. It's like a game is so good that I lose my self control and can't pace myself. Fuck.

So I realized there's one vendor in the entire game that pays full price for anything and will pretty much buy anything you can see minus items with 0 cost or active quest items.

It's the alchemy guy in the crematorium outside Novigrad. I don't know if you can realistically feed him all your stuff cause he only ever has like 500 crowns on him. Maybe if you wait for his inventory to populate with runes you can buy them all and then sell back some stuff, like I did. It costs a lot of money to do so but if you're super rich in the end I guess it doesn't matter. I basically used him to sell all my trophies off at full price.

Yes! And always be on the lookout for playing people in side-quests, some of the cards can be missed, unless you can reload a save. In terms of money, I tended to carry lots of weapon using the fiend decoction (allows you to carry more) and sell them, rather than dropping. Also, I hear buy sea shells, dismantling them to pearls and selling the pearls is an effective way of making money.

If you have the money, might as well buy them all. There's really not much out there to buy in the game, aside from formulas.

As for quick ways to get money, just do witcher contracts and sell whatever loot you find at the appropriate vendors. It adds up pretty quick. After a few hours in Velen I never hurt for money again.

I did a mix of side quests and main quests, but generally I found myself above the level of the main quests I did. But as you get used to the game and get some decent equipment you'll probably find most quests to be incredibly easy unless it's around 10 levels above yours.

Yes, and after it's a pain to remember where the hell was the trader that had the cards. You will win more money later.

Money is won mainly by looting everything and anything. Clean every village throughly, and clean every question mark. Remember you can also sell crafting components, so as you start to accumulate several of one type, you should start to sell them.

Try to mix it up side quests and main quest. Usually do whatever mission is of lower level, but don't let the main quest too forgotten, do it if you already are two level above it.

Alright then, I'll buy as many as I can then. Thanks for the note on formulas too. I'll focus on those with merchants then.

Relief to hear about the money, though I did sell quite a bit of loot recently after realizing dismantling wouldn't be worth given what I'd get out of it.

Thanks for the advice on everything!

Pretty sure the Lord of Undvik quest is bugged for me or I'm being really stupid. There is absolutely fucking nothing in the house to search for. I've spent like an hour searching every nook and cranny cos the radar is on the house. Nothing.

Oh, yeah, you won't actually get the prompt to move on but you should find some footsteps and follow them, out of the house.

I fucking hope they patch in a way to get the missable Gwent cards that are only obtained in story missions. Quite frustrating.

I followed those to a cliff, made me way to the top and then nothing. I figured that would lead me to the next bit though so I'll explore a bit more. Thanks!

Can't say I'm too pleased with getting half the agreed upon pay for the
dragon contract
. Having Geralt just go with it really suck me out of the immersion. He makes threats over little things but won't stand up for himself when someone threatens his livelihood.

Just finished the
tower of mice quest. HOLY JEEZ THIS GAME. I had to stop playing after that. Just insane. What also is incredible and kinda of stressful going forth, is that if I didn't choose the same dialogue choices I did I would have missed out on the kissing scene.

after like 90% of the SIDE quests in this game, I almost literally do this after completing each one :

I think it's quite different to threaten some asshole bandit than threaten some peasant or take his head off because of coin. World already sees witchers as mutated monsters without empathy etc. and "attacking" peasants would do more harm than good.

imo

That should be left up to the player. Taking choice away from the player is never a good decision. They can prevent you from killing regular humans but how you interact with others should be up to you. Being unable to do anything but walk away is a terrible feeling and is unnecessary.

That looks like a treasure chest. How good are you at jumping from cliffs, Geralt?

Heh.. I found that one yesterday as I was headed through there on a boat. Stopped off there, "don't mind if I do!"

Forget what was in it, I think it had an alchemy formula or something?

It was a little weird you couldn't even get an option to object or maybe apply some Axii to it.

I really wish they didn't dole out experience quite as generously. Been avoiding the main quest to trying not become overleveled for sidequests but now having done loads of sidequests I'm lvl 21 and my main quest mission, "echos of the past" is lvl 13. :(

Lvl 20, there's still way too many "?" in Velen!

Saw some new creatures while doing some "?" there, but all are pretty easy to kill now.

Spoilers for 'The Ugly Baby'

drinking with the boys was such a great moment. Only game where I actually watch and enjoy the moments like this.

I am running right into a burnout with this game. I am about 65 hours in and just now finished act1. It's too big. If the gameplay was very interesting it could keep my attention but I know exactly how every mission, every battle, every side quest will play out in terms of mechanics, all that changes are the stories. 30 hours ago I was riveted with the game, now I feel I am going through the motions. I may need a break... No way I finish this before batman.
