About 40 hours in, walking into Novigrad for the first time at level 12... wow. Stunning density when juxtaposed with the open countryside of Velen. Like, holy shit.

My heart absolutely broke when I saw
the Baron's feet swinging from the tree.
God damn it, why do the ramifications of decisions in these games manifest hours later?
The Baron was my favorite character in the game so far.
I'm half tempted to reset my save from this morning and not
save the spirit of the tree. Because then I presume Anna and the Baron live, right?
How else does that quest turn out?

That quest with
the spirit in the tree is kinda bullshit, though. When you talk to the guy after you get out of the cave Geralt is all "Yup! Spirit is evil! Fucked up, right?" When prior to the ritual you get no real indication that the spirit is evil aside from the creepy of it all. As soon as I saw the demon-eyed horse, I had a suspicion that it wasn't a benevolent spirit I had freed. Why couldn't the quest make it clearer prior to the decision that the spirit is evil if Geralt knew all along?
Ugh.

So.., what else can potentially happen with that outcome?

There is a book in the game that indicates
that the spirit occupying the tree is mad and vengeful. Although she does save the children from the crones.

If you don't free the spirit, the baron frees his wife and goes with her to a healer in the mountains. And the crones eat the orphans.

For the book readers and a Dandelion quest:
Doesn't Priscilla remind you of Essi Daven from the short story, A Little Dedication? She's definitely CDPR's homage to the character. Both have similarities in regards to their appearance and relationship with Dandelion.

She reminded me of Essi. But only the looks.
The end of that short story is so so sad...

If you don't save the tree spirit OR if you don't tell the spirit to free the kids, the crones don't punish Anna. When you show up with the Baron she's gone insane, so he takes her to a healer in the Blue Mountains. Apparently there is evidence prior to meeting the tree spirit in a book, but I don't remember.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Asked a couple pages back but got botp'd

So I have all the other parts upgraded, but haven't found an upgrade diagram -

Is there an enhanced version of the ursine crossbow? I've crafted the base version (and am still too low of level for it) and have enhanced versions of the other bear school gear except that.

If so, where do you find the diagram? Google has been no help in this regard :(

So... I saved
a bunch of kids
instead of
a drunk abusive husband and a cheater?

I think I made the better decision????

Fuck, this game is heavy.

So where do I upgrade my gear? In two and a bit playthroughs I've yet to find a way to do it and I'm staring at the Blacksmith right now and can't see any option to upgrade my gear.

Only part that made it more balanced to me was that the village eolderman said that
mothers killed their kids when spirit drove village crazy

Well... I ploughed her that good that she
left me asleep, I told her I can't believe we fucked, said she'd tell Yen and Triss so I had to put the bitch down.
It could have ended so much better :/

honestly, I did the same as you, and I think it was for the best in a way. You save the children, but Anna(gran) dies, but I'm fairly certain she woulda gladly given her life for the kids if given the option. Especially given how the baron talks about suicide attempts and that she wanted to not have a child of his, it's very unlikely she would have ever been happy going home with him again.

So I'm level 3 and an in Valen, am I too low to be here yet? Everyone thing seems note powerful than I am.playing on Blood and Broken Bones.

I like Samum for crowds, & Devil's Puffball or Dancing Star to whittle away at bosses. The others are kind of niche for werewolves or whatever

Can you combine Dragon's Dream with another bomb that ignites the power and does the damage of the other bomb? I would think Grapeshot or Dancing Stars to work. What does Devil's Puffbomb do?

3 sounds right. Enemies don't scale, so some stuff is gonna be too much for you at first. Main story quests and contracts give more experience, generally, than secondary quests.

Just reached Novigrad, damn.
I don't think I'll bother looting every single chest in the city. Have anyone cleared this city's loot? That'll be an achievement.

I can't answer your first question, though I would think any sort of flame would set it off.

Devils Puffball is a poison cloud. Some enemies won't catch fire, but they can be poisoned (it can poison you too if you aren't careful)

Considering that is the next place you go to after finishing White Orchard, of course not. It's quite easy to take on monsters x2 your have a grasp on combat mechanics.

3 is fine. I did everything there is to do in White Orchard and was only level 4 going into Velen.

But yeah, have to pick your spots when you first get to the second area. Lots of stuff that'll kick your ass in a few hits. Following the first story quest should lead you to a few level appropriate quests / points of interest.

Do you have any griffin armour diagrams?

Not sure, if they were in White Orchard I grabbed the lot, but if it was in Velen or beyond I've yet to go back for anything from the smaller sidequests yet. Definitely have Serpentine stuff though since I noticed the diagram at the blacksmith, didn't see any Griffin weapons though.

Seem like my Xbox version of the Witcher got patched. The cutscenes aren't really juddering anymore and the framerate seems better. Maybe its just in my head.

My favorite one is the one who think he's in the military. Is there a PETA for rock trolls in Witcher universe?

People who kill them without having those adorable child-like discussions with them are just pure evil.

Yeah, that one was awesome
and Geralt's painting was hilarious

1.2% of all people who completed The Witcher 2 killed all the trolls in their playthrough. Statistics like this make me sad.

Anybody else disappointed in the way roach or any of the horse handle let alone look? compared to Red Deads horse stable, which looks and handles far better even for a last gen game.

So I finally killed the Shrieker (Cockatrice) for the Velen Witcher contract. Was 1 or 2 levels higher than me and an absolute nightmare (I think I was Level 6 or 7). Killed me in just 2 or 3 hits, especially if one of them was an attack that caused bleeding. Annoyingly I saved just before he saw me, so I couldn't even back out of it. In the end the strategy that worked was
upgrading Quen so that enemies are thrown back when your shield breaks. I basically just kept dodging or walking backwards until Quen refilled, activated it, then went ham. If he ever broke the shield, I got in a few heavy or quick hit combos whilst he was stunned from the blast, then retreated to rinse repeat. If he ever started flying, I quickly downed him with the crossbow before he could even get too far. This strategy was a million times more effective than using Aard.

I am still in awe with this game.

After adjusting settings on my HDTV, this game looks photo realistic at times. It is insane.

Without question the best open world I have seen. Everything is connected and has a purpose.

Traveling from the south of Velen in the forests & villages, to the north near Novigrad witht he farms and the Novigrad itself. Amazing! It feels like a real world

The side quests themselves, even the most basic & short ones have some meaning and a little story.

Amazing effort by the developers.

So, random thought, I am hungry for a game/RPG set in GoT world, and I think CDPR would be the best people to do it, judging by the praise

I don't know
the villagers were pretty clear that the thing was killing people, and it was super creepy when it talked to you. I think the game gave you enough reason to doubt the spirit's story.

yep. If you didn't find it there's an (Easter egg spoiler)
cave in the islands that's a hidden easter egg. It's in the south west mountain on the bottom west side. Near the beach.
google it if you haven't.

Fucking monsters. All they wanted was shoes.

Also has anybody found the monty python easter egg? It's nice.

Wow, just fought a
howler
that was five levels higher than me for a witcher's contract. Had to resort to consuming a
wyvern's potion
and soaking my blade in
relict oil
to even the odds and cause enough damage during each strike to peck away at its health.

I love how the game gives you the ability to fight a monster that would normally show high resistance to your attacks without the witcher's tools. Experimenting with the different oils and potions has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of this game!
