that's a sword you get from a quest super early on - it's a steel blade though so not sure why he's using it against those monsters...

Good catch. I think I was messing around with the photo mode and might have pulled out the wrong sword :D

I think it's really clever just how the game gives you these quests.
Kiera's storyline is just something that comes up under "Secondary" stuff. It's not listed under the main stuff, so it's ostensibly "side" content. But it's actually really complex. And it's neat how sometimes your "Secondary" quests are just 10-30 minutes quests or 1-2 hour subplots. One quest that I got from an old woman led into a completely out-of-left-field reuniting with a character from another game. It's damn brilliant. I think Kiera's story is actually one of the three main subplots in the game.

Nice! Given the pace at which I'm progressing, this is going to take me months!

I just found the crafting recipe for a Lv. 27 weapon. I'm Lv. 7 T_T
Be happy there are at least some rewards in this game that aren't level-scaled.

Just finished The Tower of Mice. Wow. How the hell are these "side" quests?! o_O

This game...
The one thing I really like about Witcher 3 main story structure is that the main quests leave loose ends and hooks for major side stuff that you can then complete as you wish a la GTA/Red Dead Redemption.

Thank you very much. It solved the problem.
Hah, no problem, I wasn't sure myself it'd work until I tried it right after telling you of the method.

I just finished the Bloody Baron questline...

I got dead Anna and hanged Baron ending. Really sad for that family. I released the tree beast thing as well (the black beauty horse), not sure if that had an effect on the final part at Crookbag Bog. It's crazy how the quests intertwine. What's the other ending?
IIRC, my ending from killing the spirit was that Anna lost her mind, but she was reunited with the Baron. The Baron (slightly) reconciled with his daughter and he rode off to find a healer for Anna. That makes the ending sound pretty decent, except that like I said, Anna is now basically insane...and the witches/crones ate the children she was caring for. Oh, and without the Baron around to give them some minor restraint, his goons have gone wild and are raping and pillaging even more.

I don't see why you consider that 'lame'. Fleshing out an already established area with more content takes a lot less work than creating a new zone which will hopefully be on par with their current offerings which is why it is coming out later and probably be more expensive.
Because, like I said, if you look at what Oxenfurt offers in terms of content right now, it's entirely clear that they cut content made for the base game and are selling it as DLC. It would be less lame if it wasn't this obvious.

What's making so many of you guys
choose to release the tree spirirt? The atmosphere below, and around, the tree is so obviously evil that I felt like the game was beating me over the head with it...

The other ending is
that the Baron rides off with his wife to find a healer for her. The daughter seems to want to give it all another chance and wants to come along but her witch hunter boss tells her she's not allowed to.

One of the most reasonable reasons I saw so far was
that he thought the Mother and the crones would duke it out and get a problem from Geralts back. Didn't even thought of that, but is actually an interesting and valid idea if you don't know the outcome.

The reason I did it was because
the spirit said it would save the children, and I also thought it would help me fight the crones.

Catching up with this thread.

I suck at this game and am convinced I must not be getting it. I am playing it on the second easiest victory, but regularly get my ass kicked by big enemies. It seems like any hit just takes massive amounts of health.

In otherwords, I feel like I am playing Dark Souls.

I don't think the game is supposed to be this hard, but I am just not quite playing it the way it is meant to be played.

Any tips? I just finally took down the griffin after 50 tries. Bastard just ate my health like no other.

Level 2
I made this video specifically for people struggling with the basics of combat:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFm5qHBRcuU

Basically, become so comfortable with dodging and positioning that you can survive indefinitely without attacking on whatever enemy you're facing. I recommend practicing on easier enemies first. While doing this, feel them out. How do they attack? What are their tells? Which ways do you need to dodge/roll to avoid getting hit? Once you reach that stage, start throwing in single swings and dodge out. Next, try mixing in signs to create openings where you can do 2-3 swings before dodging/rolling out. Once you've got that down, you'll probably be in a good place to really take down whichever enemy was giving you trouble. What you learn from practicing these basics will help you with the more advanced enemies like the griffin.

Exceptionally imprecise with an implementation of momentum that fights with your intentions and expectations of where Geralt should be going. If you don't think it feels like shit, then I'm honestly jealous, but I've played enough third-person games to know that TW3's traversal mechanics are objectively shitty. Not different, not unique, not nuanced; just shitty.

It's fine as long as you don't sprint everywhere and that you get used to using walk to readjust which way you're looking.

By the way, Yennefer also has a copy of the book "She Who Knows" in her room in Skellige.

I read it and well... errors might have been made

So I went in the .ini and edit folliage, trees, and draw distance and increased them significantly. It is definitely taxing but the game is still locked at 30fps with my GTX 970, only dipping to 25fps for only a moment or two once in a while (usually in populated areas with draw distance intact) before going back up to 30fps a few seconds later.

There are very few areas on the ground that aren't covered in grass blades. Here is one shot I took.

I'm starting to worry, I'm at a point in the game where I've told both
Triss, and Vennefer that I love them, had sex with them both, and banged Keira Metz as well. I also told Triss and Keira Metz to go to Kaer Morhen, and just had a conversation with Ven that we would meet at Kaer Morhen. I'm nervous now, lol, am I gonna be in big trouble or what?

very big trouble

Trying a new SweetFX preset. Totally different look than what I was using, bright, vibrant, and heavily fantasy based. Pretty beautiful I think

Could anyone please tell me what happens in regards to Keira?

I ended up killing her at the end of her storyline as I didn't want her potentially letting someone have a chemical weapon.

I know you can persuade her to give you the notes and send her on her way or just straight up let her go with the notes.

Could someone please tell me what outcomes these two choices have? Please don't spoil any outcomes that may arise due to me killing Keira.

I made the mistake of starting the gwent quest... this is a significant setback towards finishing the game in my lifetime.
The only reason I am already in Skellige after 40 hours is because I needed more Gwent players to beat. Ciri and the Novigrad plot can suck my deck, I'm gonna be Gwent master.

That is a silly assertion. There is no credence to your claim that they cut any content, what is more likely is they decided to prioritise content for the areas that matter most to the main story quests, which are mostly in Velen and Novigrad with a touch of Skellige.

I'm sure they would of liked to developed that content, but could not commit without delaying the game further which was obviously not an option after delaying it for 6 months before. Now, I'm sure they would like to include the expansions for free but major content like that takes considerable more man hours than the stuff they release for free like the single contract, alternate look for yennefer, horse armour etc

Why is everyone saying "Novigrad is so big ! It's so impressive OMG! " ?

I mean it's beautiful, and there's lots of content in it. But it's not that big ! And most buildings are locked so it's not even that seamlessly impressive.

I have a question about the romance options and what actions kill off a potential interest.

Spoilers ahead:
I've romanced Triss all the way through her quest line (got the light house scene).

I've also gotten the
unicorn scene with Yen, but I did NOT proceed any further with her. I skipped her Last Wish quest and pissed her off badly. Did I ruin any chances with Triss in this case? I'm under the impression you need to go all the way with both to ruin your chances with both. If you do what I did and go halfway you should be fine with the one you romanced completely. Am I right in my assumption? It's a bit confusing.

Two questions:

Can you sell old crafting diagrams? I'm sick of having to scroll past low level crafting diagrams when I only want to craft stuff that is better than what I'm wearing at that moment.

Can you travel to the Skellige Islands straight away after arriving in Velen/Novigrad? I'm side questing in Velen now, but I wouldn't mind just checking out the Skellige Islands just for kicks.

Damn, this game really makes you feel like you're on a adventure in a strange unknown land. You never know what's around the corner. Love it.

But it is big! It's probably bigger that every town in Skyrim combined.

Not every locked door stays locked forever. Novigrad is more than it seems. You also should add the surroundings to it, like the estate and the bee industry.

Generally yes, but you need at the very least 1,000 coins to get there.

Nope, since they aren't placed in your inventory. They really need to improve the UI as its a bit consolised atm.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
There sure are a lot of dumb people in novigrad that like to pick fights with the guy holding 2 swords on his back.

I let her keep the notes and told her to seek refuge in Kaer Morhen, she and Lambert hooked up there and she used the notes to cure some plague.

She can either just stroll off on her own adventures, or you can send her off to join your league of extraordinary gentlemen in Kaer Morhen. I did the latter.

But that's just the positive outlook on the exact same scenario. We're clearly agreeing that Oxenfurt is lacking in content and you're just choosing to try and see the silver lining, while I'm refusing to. I'd like to believe CDPR are the good-guy saviors of so-called "AAA" gaming too, but we've seen this song and dance way too many times for me to just buy it with no critical thought.

I gave you perfectly logical reasons to why that is the case and you ignored them. You don't cut content which is said to be up to 10 hours long, for another 6 MONTHS. It does not make any sense at all.

First visit to Skellige is a quest that requires a 1000 crown investment (though it's possible to get it back afterwards) and involves a tiny bit of level 16 fighting

I can see the main quest lines are quite multi-faceted, and your decisions in previous parts of the quest have big ramifications on future parts of the quest.

Do the side quests also have the same thing? i.e. decisions you make can alter the quest line.

Earlier in this thread I was surprised when some dude had over 4000 crowns and was still in Velen, since you usually have so little money in this game. Well, now I understand -- I'm close to 5000 and also still in Velen. Some of the monster contracts really pay off, but I think what's given me some of the most money is all the swords I've been selling. 300 - 400 for relic-typed swords, and I'm sure they'll only get more rare and expensive as I continue.

I'm so happy the Witcher 1 style "consequences" cinematics are back. I really missed those in 2.
There sure are a lot of dumb people in novigrad that like to pick fights with the guy holding 2 swords on his back.

Only an inexperienced fighter would try to menace others with two swords on his back. And pay no heed to his expertly-crafted, battle-worn armour. Clearly a mockery, purchased to sell his "experience."

Yup. Decisions really make a difference in the Witcher. It's been this way, in varying degrees, throughout all three games.

Ohohoho, they do. I have trouble half of the time to differenciate the mainquests from the secondary ones, because they are all grand and excellent.

I also just finished that quest last night. Damn that was amazing, one of the best one so far.

Just finished The Tower of Mice. Wow. How the hell are these "side" quests?! o_O

This game...

Its mind blowing the "side quest" content in this game. Tower of Mice was unbelievable and no joke was better written and designed than main content in 98% of games.

I know that there are endless complements going around about this game but when I finish stuff like Tower of Mice and then explore the world after that and realize all of this is optional content that is of incredible complexity and depth of design it just blows me away.

This game is in the most definitive RPG ever made. EVER.

No, I addressed them. Your guesses are just guesses just like mine, which is what I said. You're not the harbinger of truth and unless you're willing to out yourself as a CDPR employee, you have no more insight into their development than I do. Again; you're choosing to believe that they left the content out for good-natured reasons, I'm not.

23k and counting, but I guess I did go to Skellige for about 10 minutes yesterday.

the best part is that savescumming to get a more favorable outcome is pretty difficult since the results aren't immediately realized. Just gotta roll with the punches.

Hmm, I sent her there too,
but I took the notes from her.
Is there any way to give them back later on, so she can still cure that plague?

Finally went to Skellige and loving it. The small Islands being isolated quest hubs is pretty nifty, and i finally got undiscovered PoI's to explore while listening to podcasts (can't really do that when doing questlines) ...

THANK GOD i was told you could shoot your crossbow while diving before coming here.

Also, sporting full tier 2 feline gear now and it looks so, so great!
