Thinking on it, the Yu-Gi-Oh anime is on some straight up bullshit.

it seemed like season Zero duels were far more suspensful. Yugi against green haired kaiba

that was after however Yugi pretty much tortured evil people.

Except duels are still too long because each card has like 3 effects that need to be re explained each duel.

Lol it's funny how they had to kinda retcon blue eyes red eyes and dark magician to be competitive decks because they were popular with tons of cards specific for them.

Is cyber dragon decks still worth while? Cyber stein banned unbanned ATM?

Yeah, Cyber dragon decks are about to become relevant again do to a new structure deck and reprints incoming and I would say it would be worth it. Cyber Stein is banned in TCG(Non Asian Format) but currently unbanned limited one copy per deck in OCG(Asian Format).

Loved the original anime. Used to play the games on GBA as well. Plus, sometimes in Starcraft would play some Yu-Gi-Oh themed games.

Eventually though I sort of grew out of it. I think the last part of the storyline I remember being actively watching was the Atlantis storyline.

Apparently the world is built around the card game. So who needs math I guess. :/

I'm pretty sure they also had regular classes on top of things like Traps class. I remember a scene where Chazz was talking to his two brothers who conquered business and politics, and it was up to Chazz to conquer dueling as though it was one of the three pillars of society. So obviously there's a big market for it.

I remember when those guys pulled guns on Kaiba and he used some card monsters to beat them.

Before that he had to jump out a window

They likely stopped because they weren't selling.

If there was money to be made, you could count on them to keep putting them out.
I heard they sold better than the edited DVDs, but 4Kids wanted a bigger share of the profit margin to recoup the costs of redubbing (why they didn't just dub it uncut and edit it down for TV like every other company is beyond me). When they tried to renegotiate their terms with Funimation (the DVDs' distributors) they refused and the project fell apart.

They had several more volumes finished, as well as an uncut dub for One Piece per the voice actors for that show (they said 4Kids' pacing was agonizingly slow).

I like how the end yami had the power to basically fucking cheat a card game, holy shit.

All YuGiOh protags have some bullshit with them. It was only really bad with Yugi because really, he wasn't that good compared to his predecessors.

Jaden should have washed him.

Oh man, just read up a basic description of that Pendulum Summon thing, and it looks confusing. It's weird how they went from fusions being unusable to trying to buff fusions in GX to making a usable form of fusion via synchro and then what appeared to be a broken form of fusion in XYZ stuff, and now there's whatever this is. Man, I've been out of this game for FOREVER. They really need to hurry up and make a 3DS game for me to buy.

Also, as to people mentioning people getting hurt by duel stuff... didn't Kaiba build that into his machines or something? I recall SOMETHING like that. I dunno.

But yeah, it's always nice when something in Yugioh happens that doesn't require a card so specific that you have to wonder why someone would ever bother putting it in their deck. Then again, I'm only familiar with 5DS and Zexal through the manga (got copies for review) and I barely touched GX, so I'm super out of the loop. IIRC in 5DS there were people just straight up cheating massively with psychic powers? Also, in Zexal I liked that they at least justified the Numbers cards as coming into existence as a specific counter as a spur of the moment thing when they're needed. As opposed to the cards that just pop up out of nowhere and do that anyway in the other series.

And did they ever actually make a ritual card that anybody would ever bother using? IIRC those things were always awful by default just because of how terribly unwieldy they were to use.

I loved the original manga.

I really liked the japanese anime. I didnt really watch the dub.

Then GX came out and I didn't really like it so I stopped watching.

5Ds came out and I gave it a short shot. I liked the art and tone more than GX but dueling on motorcycles was just too convoluted and stupid to overcome.

Zexal...fuck no.

I'm not expecting good things from Arc V.

I feel like the entire anime from the moment the original series ended is just some strange alternate universe of awkwardness.

I remember some asshole stole my Relinquished when I wasn't looking in middle school. Straight off the table. Repressed memories.

Someone stole my Thousand-Eyes Restrict in middle school. Are we thief buddies?
In America?

Shame. I think I remember it getting some positive nods here and there. I was kinda surprised. And sceptical.

All this talk of Yugi-boy reminded me Shaman King. Remember that? I loved it.Dat intro song.

fuck the mangaka

i loved it so much in the early days, but then when it got around the end? makes yuyuhakusho ending look like fuckin shakespeare

did you know there's a sequel called shaman king flowers? main character is hana, yoh and anna's son
there's gonna be another battle because the shaman kings have a dispute, hao's team's leader is hana

i think the other shaman kings are jesus, some egyptian god, can't remember the rest
been a while since i read any manga

Huh, reading about Season 0 (or just the early manga stuff in general) was pretty surprising.

May have to look further into that.

But yeah, the anime has no shortage of asspulls from outta nowhere.

Especially Zexal, which amounts to straight-up cheating with Shining Draw among other BS moves.

man did eng version neuter 5D so much. Pretty sure they cut that prison eps (for good reason) lol

My friend, who was a huge weeaboo at the time, took me through those edited scenes in excruciating detail, and yeah, large parts were ridiculously altered. Biggest thing was when Yusei was getting branded, he was screaming and it was this whole big deal and they described it as one of the worst pains. Then in English it was two seconds and he was like "Was that supposed to tickle?" All snarky. Man, fuck 4Kids.

Fuck I never heard of the sequel. Colour me intrigued.

Thanks for the post man, Shaman King was awesome and anyone who watched it and liked it is an instant bro/sis on the spot. Show was good fun. Needs more love.

Victims of theft buddies :(

No one did that to me when I played MTG though. That was until the schools banned us from playing at lunch.

My friend used to give me sick ass cards and I gave him some worthless cards in return. Guy bought me brownies everyday too. School was the best. I miss you bro.

I remember giving this other guy a bunch of shitty Yu-gi-oh cards for Budokai 2 when it first came out. His big cousin was going to kick the crap out of me lol. This was months before we left school. Needless to say I held out until the end. Keep the change you filthy animal.

wtf they retconned the blue eyes white dragon card with new art?

It doesn't look bad, but something about the old one looks... eh probably nostalgia

Yeah, I may actually have to look into the series properly now that there's a chance of a proper ending. I watched the show way back with its (probably terrible) dub and through random happenstance ended up with the final volume, and seeing the way it ended turned me off trying to read the series in full.

Weirdly enough I found out Flowers even existed when I was in Japan last summer and just saw it sitting there and did a double take. This is also how I found out about the Kino's Journey spinoff Gakuen Kino.

(Since this is really off topic, I'll admit that I also somehow never noticed the smiley face on the hands.)

Edit: Also, holy crap. I had both my Thousand Eyes Restrict and Polymerization stolen. Worst part was I had brought them to some tourney thing just to put them in my side deck and never use because I was so proud of them. I was super broken up about that.

Sometimes I get the urge to make my old Toon Deck again. I used that one continuous magic that made it so you couldn't attack the turn you summoned. Man, that really pissed people off.

The toon cards were awesome. Also, anyone else really like Summoned Skull? Decent Attack and very common. Looks baddass too.

Duelingnetwork.com is all I have to say. Get you reintroduced to the game really quick. I dueled a ton my freshman year of college and while I was a kid. Ran a Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon deck. I was pretty unbeatable until the card was limited to one recently. Didn't duel for a year+ until this past weekend.

Good old times. Might check out 5Ds just for the hell of it one day. I also never knew that was a smiley face.

Well I mean didn't they already have multiple designs? I remember having both this...

and this

I'm guessing the second one is the one you're referring to as the one you grew up with? I owned both and mind you this was years ago.

Alternate arts are usually for special editions. Red Eyes Black Dragon also had a card with alternate art.

I always wanted to play Dungeon Dice Monsters after watching the episodes where Yugi plays it. Looked fun.

There was a GBA game of it if you really want to.

Heart of the card does work, I used it so many times when I was playing Yu Gi Oh 10 years ago. The only time it failed was because I didn't believe enough! True fact!

Man I remember some kids at school got into Magic purely because they wanted to play card games like Yu gi oh but didn't want to look like they were into anime. Heh.

Fuck I never heard of the sequel. Colour me intrigued.

I liked Shaman King alot but by the end of it, Hao/Zeke was so OP compared to every other character that it became ridiculous. It's like 15 Agent Coulsons vs the Hulk.

Right. I've got (well had is a more accurate word) multiple cards with different designs so I assumed it was a special deck of some kind.

Yeah I agree. It was pretty ridiculous when I think about it but I guess I still enjoyed it because I'll be honest I don't remember thinking negatively towards the end. Guess I was just really hyped up lol.
