This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

…while defeating its point?

Not at all. There is a huge amount of effort being done to improve offline procedural content creation because creating content is... very expensive. Having an algorithm doing as much of the content creation work as possible will be a huge win in the future of production.

I see, thanks for the insight.

I'm looking for a PC game where you can drive a car around in a city (GTA-Like) without all the killing and stuff. Preferably targeted at kids.
Any ideas ?
Lego City Undercover seems fitting but no PC version.
Thanks.

Am I allowed to link my own Youtube videos here om Gaf if its relevant, or will I get the banhammer?

Can't you drive around in the Batmobile in Gotham some of the Lego Batman games? I want to say 2 for sure, not sure about 1 and 3.

The Crew, Midtown Madness, and Test Drive Unlimited 2. My daughter used to play the last 2 quite extensively when she was younger.

Once you open the main hub up, you can't go wrong with Lego Marvel Superheroes.

There's a PC version of Simpsons Hit And Run.

Well, there's that.

Doesn't exactly say you can't paste Let's Play videos or reviews you make for your own pleasure about games you've bought with your own money.

I might create a LttP thread about a game I've actually quite fallen in love with.

Thanks!

I think if you make it clear that it's your own video and you're using it as an example, rather than some form of self-promotion ("look at this video i made, discuss and also like/share pls"), it should be fine.

I finished MGSV a week ago and one thing that's bothering me is Ocelot. Is the Ocelot in MGS3 and the Ocelot in MGSV the same person? I mean I'm assuming they are but they have so little in common, the Ocelot in MGSV is so boring in comparison.

Arp, it looks like my PS4 has started corrupting games.

First a disc based game, and now a downloadable PSN game. The games hang on load and occasionally crash with the "game is corrupted, please reinstall" message. Multiple database rebuilds and reinstalls haven't helped.

Anything I should know before I do a factory reset? I'm backing up my savegames now.

Any suggestions on PS4 SSD/HDDs if I end up needing a new one?

Is Case 3 in Ace Attorney 1 considered bad? (Steel Samurai one) I was enjoying the game up to there. Wanna make sure I'm not crazy, or I won't end up liking the series.

Is it normal for a New 3DS to boot slower with a bigger card?

With the original 4 gbcard everything was instant, and after switching to a samsung evo 32gb class 10 not only takes more time on a black screen, but icons and folders also take their time to appear.

I already did a slowe full format as recommended by Nintendo and still happens, but I have to wonder if this is to be spected on bigger cards.

It may be the least interesting case, since it is the one that adds less to the overarching plot, but things get MUCH better. If you think it's bad, you probably are not going to like most of the second game (The circus case... ugh), but... It's worth playing to reach Trials and Tribulations, the peak point of the original trilogy.

Did you use the official SDformatter? Other ones will mess up the block alignment. It likely won't help much with the read times, tho.

I used that one. Format Type: full, and format size adjustment set to off (there was no info on that setting). Games go at the same speed (Shante and The Pirate's curse and SMT IV are everything I have), but the boot is crap. I suppose I can try to reformat again enabling format size adjustment...

It would at least prolong its lifetime.

It's not bad, but it's part of the Third Case Curse in the original trilogy in which all of them are always the least enjoyable.

so... I'm on the road til around end of September and won't be able to access my PS4 at home til then. I remote play my PS4 with my Vita when I have good wifi connection. the other day I realized I couldn't find my Vita and I've been trying to look for it since. now by Saturday night if I still couldn't find it I'm going to consider it lost for good. what should I do in regards to replacing it and reconnecting to my PS4 while I'm on the road? and do I have to deactivate the old one somehow since it connects to the PS4 store with my account and all?

Well, as an update, I tried full overwrite and format size adjustment. Boot time is 8 seconds, icons take 2-3 seconds to appear. Samsung 32gb EVO SDHC Class 10 UHS-I. Next time I will try with Corsair or another brand. For now I will have to do with this.

The first thing I would do is changing the PSN password to prevent whoever finds it from accessing the store (but he still will be able to play with games installed). To disable a console you don't have access to anymore you need to go to the psn account settings website and use the option to remove all devices. The problem is that you can only do this once every six month. If you can't, good luck with sony's customer service.

would that disable my PS4 at home also? I was hoping to just disable the lost Vita so I can still connect the next Vita while I'm on the road (is there a way to connect new Vita to the PS4 without physical connection between the two?).

oh a side note, is there some kinda remote connect to find where the Vita is or something?

Is the Windows 10 AU update safe to install? I heard it broke DS4 Windows support, but a fix is already out. Does the update mess up anything else? I've been avoiding the update, but every time I wake up my PC from sleep, there's a prompt saying Windows 10 has an update for me.

I'm currently downloading the installers for drivers and other programs onto a USB drive. I may just do a reformat and do a fresh install.

Castlevania SOTN question...

I'm replaying my PSX disc on my PS3 and the music volume seems pretty low in the mix compared to the sound effects. No volume options in the game.

Is this normal and I just dont recall or what? Is there some workaround to raise the mhsic volume somehow? I dont remember this being a thing at all last time I played it damn.

Your tv probably has some lame equalizer turned on. These things are the fucking worst.

It will remove all devices (And you will have to activate them again once you are back), I'm afraid. If I could disable separate devices I would have removed my dead ps3 and dead first vita a long time ago. And as far as the answers in the playstation forums go, there's no "find my vita".

I've always wanted to inquiry about how physical collectors deal with duplicate copies within their collection, particularly in the instance of special editions for "vanilla" releases against expanded re-releases? Do most folk usually keep both copies for the sake of completion/retaining value or does anyone actually swap out the original copy with the subsequent version of the game? For instance, I have the limited edition of Deus Ex: Human Revolution on my shelf, but I thought about grabbing the "Director's Cut" down the line and I'd prefer having just one variant of the game in the long run.

I don't think I'd call any Windows update of that magnitude "safe" to install, particularly recently. The update broke my Windows install to the point I had to roll it back to reliably boot the thing. At some point you just have to bite the bullet and get it if you want to keep getting security updates. When you do, just make sure you have backups in case something goes wrong.

Not sure about the DS4 issue specifically, though.

much appreciated, I'll figure something out I guess.

Today I discovered that the WASD key control method did not originate with the FPS but instead is even older coming from Wizardy which got it from the PLATO system running on mainframes. Games such as Moria on PLATO used ASD keys for movement.

So... Im playing Dragons Dogma and.. I can't figure out how to roll..

I'm the Strider class and everything on the internet says you get it at lvl 5 and that it should appear in my core skills... But it's not there.

Any help is appreciated. :)

I used to think PS2 was the best console ever but these past few months I've found the PS1 library to be better overall. Yes, early 3D games were rough. But the good ones are still good.

Simply put, PS2 games are generally ugly. As an example, DMC3 on PS2 is truly one of the ugliest things I've seen.

Does anyone here agree with me?

Wat? You say: good PS1 games are good. Ugly PS2 games are ugly. Whil I agree that there are prettier games on PS2 than DMC3, it's still a great game. And I don't really understand what you want to say with that?

Which games changed your mind?

And there are gorgeous games on PS2. FFXII, Ratchet and Clank, We love Katamari, REZ, Odin Sphere, Grim Grimoire and many more.

Yeah sorry I disagree Sub and am not really sure what you mean. I mean there are plenty of ugly PS1 games and a lot of gorgeous PS2 games. Is it something to do with animations or colour effects used on PS2 a lot?

In attempting to connect my Vita TV to my Computer (because I don't have a double ended USB cord), I opened CMA and allowed access to my computer. But I realized when I went through the permissions dialogue that I left an "access to local network" or such and such box unchecked. If I go to the CMA's security settings I can't anything regarding access to the network.

How can I go back and change those settings in Windows 10? I'm assuming it'll have an effect on file transfer speeds ... Although maybe not.

That reads like a trick question. Presumably you need a spare? Any cord with the same connectors should work so long as it's not some dirt cheap knock-off.

This year, I want to be organised when all the big games arrive.

Is there some kind of realease date app or list that let's you mark the titles you want to get and arrange them in specific orders? An that even keeps me updated if a game gets delayed?

Something like social bookmarking but with games, u know?

Anyone know if there is a way to remotely re-download content you've uninstalled to your Xbox One? I want to re-download the Titanfall 2 Tech Test so it will be ready when I get home tonight (I deleted it last weekend because I didn't know there was going to be a second round at the time) but when I go to the Xbox/Microsoft store online it just says 'You own this' with no obvious way to re-download. Does it really only let you download remotely once at the time of purchase?

Can you take a HDD out of one PS4 and put it straight in to another and just have it work?

Or are they tied to the host PS4 and the whole rigmarole with back up, restoring, etc has to be done.

My sister has a PS3 and I don't anymore. When I did have one I had a ton of games on my psn account. Could I essentially "gift" her my account by giving her my info and would she then have access to those games?

when AAA development studios are working on a game, how many backup copies of the game's code do they keep on average to protect against catastrophe?

ex: how many backup copies of the 'breath of the wild' code would nintendo have at this stage in its development?

Games are made in different parts, so there are multiple saves of a game in development at any one time. I think as an actual backup, they'll be stored on the server and the sever should be backed up reguarly.
