This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

It doesn't matter at all if you play Portal before, after or in between the Half-Life games. They're only very loosely connected.

Alright, I guess I'll start with the one I fancy the most. Thanks for answering.

I'd say the order doesn't matter but you should play Portal before Episode 2. It doesn't make a difference for Half Life 2 or Episode 1 but you'll understand something extra in the ending of Episode 2 if you have played Portal before it.

I was gonna say play Portal last, but this way does make more sense.

HL2>Ep1>Portal>Ep2.

It's kind of exhausting going through HL2, Episode 1, and Episode 2 consecutively. I'd recommend sliding Portal someone in the middle to give yourself a breather.

Out of interest, I'd like to hear where people would put Portal 2 in that once they've had the chance to play it.

I'm playing the original Yakuza at the moment, and I'm finding an awful lot of the more generic grunt-style enemies have rather familiar-sounding names; are they just common Japanese surnames, or did the designers of the game actually deliberately name loads of the grunts after other game developers?

I agree with this. The start of EP1 is soul crushing if you literally just finished HL2.

I have a question, why is Mewtwo before Mew in the pokemon list numbers?

Order-wise, it doesn't make much sense. But Mew was considered a "hidden" Pokemon when the world only knew about the first 150.

How many games these days even have you push start to begin? Usually it's X or A or A+B (whatever it is on Wii).
There are even games that won't let you start the game with the START button, but only with one of the four face buttons. It's not like they give you a choice and let you go oldschool by pressing START to actually start.

Once again:

My DS Lite's L and R buttons do not work anymore unless I blow into the housing, and I think that only makes them work because of the moisture naturally present in my breath. I've previously opened my Lite and been mystified to find the L & R button contacts are enclosed in small boxes. No way to clean them, as far as I can tell.

What are my options? Can the contacts be cleaned? Has anyone else here done it?

ALSO: replacing a Lite shell with one ordered online: has anyone here done that before? How difficult was it? Would you recommend it?

hoping someone knows how this works with accounts on PSN.

when i setup my launch unit's PSN account, i set my girlfriend's up as well, but apparently, hers isnt a master account or whatever like mine is - she was asking if i could set things like her facebook to update with trophies, but when i looked into it, her account type/status didnt jive with it.

is there a way around this, or can i upgrade her account? what's the difference in types, anyway?

Just tried Wario Land 2 (black cart version) on my GBC and it has that screen flicker between room changes etc. I assume that's just how it was? Any confirmation from owners of the game here would be great.

The game is great btw, would love a new one as I loved the last one they did on GBA. Jeez that was a long time ago!

Yeah, I seem to remember that flicker from playing it tons on my OG GameBoy. Great game.

I'd love to know about this, too.

Any games similar to Grandia/Lunar/Trails in the Sky for PSP/NDS/PS1/PS2?

How come some GBA games have the Gameboy Player logo when you play them in a GBA? I just bought Drill Dozer and noticed it.

Surely that game wouldn't work in a Gameboy Player anyway?

Are there any complete video walkthroughs of Dead Rising out there? Also, is it possible, in practice, to beat the story in one go (not in one sitting) without restarting with a higher level and still see everything/save everyone?

I'd say No, not a chance. Some of the boss fights and the general difficulty of the game later on means you need to well leveled up, which requires multiple play throughs. You definitely wouldn't be able to save everyone on your first play through. Unless you are a total ninja!

Why doesn't the PS3 have game installs like the 360?

I know they have some mandatory ones, but those are usually just for some critical files, and are only like a few gigs, like 2 gb.

Why can't I completely install Modern Warfare 2 onto my PS3?

I'm buying a new PS3 slim tomorrow because my previous PS3 YLOD for the 4th time. I was able to revive it but I don't want to push it any further.

I have several PSN accounts in there which some of them I completely forgot the password. One of those has plenty DLC that I bought a long time ago.

My question is: Doing the transfer method (move, not copy) from one PS3 to the other, does all the account information transfer? Does it transfer the activation or uses a new one?

If it's going to ask me for the password again, I'm boned.

Getting a boxed dreamcast tomorrow with a load of games for the grand total of £7.99.

I'll have a VGA adapter on like monday or so, but I'll want to play the dreamcast before then. So my question is: what's in the box? Is it just a shitty RF lead or composite? Because like hell am I going to connect it with RF on my 42" full HD display. yuck.

How do you get past The Magnificent Magma Sea in Galaxy 2. I've been stuck on that stupid lava planet, blue star part for months and its pissing me off.

edit
nevermind, figured it out in the SMG2 thread.

Should be composite. I remember because I was able to use composite cables from other systems with the Dreamcast...or was it the AC cord? Damn, it's been too long.

Hm. That doesn't sound quite right to me - the dreamcast has it's own connector different to the PS2 and Gamecube's individual ones...

Probably thinking of the AC cord - it's a fairly standard-sized connector and, looking at some photos of the back and going from memory, you could probably use the PS1 or PS2 cords in they DC fairly easily, for example.

The AV connector for each family of systems is unique - Playstation cables (to a certain extent) are all interchangable between PS1/2/3, as are Nintendo cables between lots of their systems, so Sega would have had its own connector as well. As far as I can tell from photos online and my shoddy memory, the Dreamcast didn't share its AV connector with anything else - looks like it was changed after the Saturn.

Thanks for refreshing my memory.

Problem solved! Found an image online that clearly shows that a composite AV lead comes with the console:

Now, let's hope that mine will be all complete and in good condition...

The Dreamcast shared the same power cord with the PS systems. NYKO sold a universal one that worked with all 3 consoles.

The only Nintendo system prior to the Wii that didn't support their AV cord was the NES, it actually used regular AV cables. However, its RF port was non-standard, and that cord works all the way up to the Gamecube via an adapter for the N64 and GC.

Thanks, that's what I figured. Know of any videos?

My laptop is pretty old, I was wondering if the specs would be able to run Half-Life 2 okay. It has a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, 1 GB of RAM, and no real graphics card. I'm not looking for anything fantastic by any means, but would this at least be able to run it?

Wouldn't the vast majority of games be improved by not having a story of any kind, or any cut scenes whatsoever?

It depends on the game and what the developer is going for.

Certainly, no game ever benefits from a story when the developer doesn't care about telling a story.

But I know you were just being an ass and weren't expecting an answer.
