Just bought an original Xbox. Times to play all the gems I've missed.

Already bought for dirt cheap:
- Jet Set Radio Future
- Panzer Dragoon Orta
- Gun Valkyrie
- Werckless (I know but it always looked fun to me)
- Amped
- PGR2

What am I missing ? (the entire multiplat gems on PS2. Plus, I've done Halo 1 & 2 already)

If you like mech games, Phantom Crash is great.

Rallisport Challenge 2 (still the best rally game around)
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic
Ninja Gaiden: Black

Will check. I just added Crimson Skies on my list, because I remember playing it at a friend's so I just bought it.

I don't like rally that much.
I have Riddick on PS3, couldn't get in.
Star Wars : Kotor - yep, how could I forgot this one.
Can't stand Ninja Gaiden's art direction

If you can find the Otogi games they are totally worth it. I think they are hard to find these days though.

Edit: Hmm, Amazon has both for 30ish each. They are really good and worth it for that price, I'd argue.

how would one go about playing the older ff games without getting pissed at the sheer amount of random encounters? I picked up FFIV advance today after hearing many good things about it and I had to stop because I was getting frustrated after being lost and getting so many encounters while trying to find my way back/around.

Hold L+R?

I'm sorry but that's insane. I love those games but don't get it at that price. The person selling them is just an e-Shop. Money is not going back to From Software.
Assuming you live in the US:

I want to get into fighting games.

I have a like 7-8 friends that play SSFIV AE, but about half play PC and about half play on PS3.

So really, I'm torn which I should get. Also, without buying any extra peripherals (pads or whatnot, I have a gaming controller that works on my PC) can I expect to completely suck? Is it necessary to have a pad to do well?

How hard is it to get into fighting games? Most of my friends are rather experienced. I haven't played a fighting game since Tekken when it came out for playstation.

Any advice for someone trying to learn quickly? Should I spend a lot of time playing against the AI, or maybe just jump straight into online play?

Any and all advice/suggestions/guidance is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Wasn't really all that interested in Tales of Monkey Island, but Telltale just sent me episodes 4 and 5 for free. Are they self-contained enough that it's ok to start playing at 4 and just go back and buy the first three if I like it, or should I start at 1?

They play out more like acts in a larger story than self contained episodes, I'm afraid. So you'd want to start playing episode 1 and continue from there.

Edit: But if you enjoy adventure games I'd recommend getting the remakes of the first two, Secret of Monkey Island and LeChuck's Revenge first.

Unless you've played those, either way, the beauty of the remakes is that you can toggle the new content on and off, so you can get a pretty faithful experience to the original non-altered original titles on the fly.

Ok gaf I need help to maintain a healthy Playstation 3.

And I have 2 questions I hope you can answer:

1. A fan, Pointed towards the front, back or sides to keep it cool or pointed away from the PS3 to reduce dust?

2. Standby or switch off at the plug when not in use?

Thanks ;)

I'm toying with whether I want to take my first steps into the Saints Row series. I've heard good things, I've got a bit of a free-roaming silliness itch, I think it'll be scratched by the games.

One minor aspect of the GTA games (and similar ilk) that I've appreciated was the fact that they came with a paper map in the box; I liked to pause and plan routes rather than rely on satnav to get around, and the onscreen map was a bit fiddly to work with. I was a little dissapointed that LA Noire didn't come with one.

Does Saints Row have an in-box map, or is it solely ingame?

Is the super slick silver 360 controller available in the wired form?

The silver controller with the new shitty useless transformer D-pad you mean? only wireless.

1-a big ass air purifier in the room is the only way to fight dust.

2-iirc PS3 don't draw power when in Standby mode ( well it takes a small amount of power just for the led red light, but that it not even for the USB ports unlike the 360), so both options are fine.

Thank you, I was going to buy a wired one for PC if I could find one, they look so slick, but shit d-pad no sale.

Hey thanks for the reply, appreciate it.

Gonna pick up myself an air purifier on Monday, ("Removes 99.9% of dust" apparently)

And I usually cover up my PS3 over night, still ok to keep it on standby if I turn Auto-downloads off?

Thanks again.

Which is the best company to buy SNES USB controllers? Amazon has Gtron, Retrolink, and Tomee. I bought a Saturn controller by Gtron and it sucks HARD.

My son has a 3DS and I'd like to buy a cheap game for him off of their e-shop. Do I have to buy a $20 card for it? Can I purchase just the one game with a CC?

you can use your cc to buy $10 increments i believe

edit: It was $5

Should I not have purchased a 16:9 monitor? I've never had a problem getting sick with most games (Marathon on XBLA being the only exception, but that made almost everyone sick). Anyways, ever since I bought my 16:9 (1920x1080) monitor I've been getting sick from more games. It's typically an FOV issue and I understand how that works, but my last monitor was 16:10 (1920x1200) and I never had any issues. There are a lot of PC games that won't let you adjust the FOV or at least the workarounds are less than ideal (I'm looking at you, Singularity). Is there anything else I can do or should I consider getting another 16:10 monitor? Will that make a difference?

Well now I'll probably never play Tales of Monkey Island. xP

You can add money with a credit card in $5 increments. Which honestly is kind of stupid because now that everything is $x.99 and you have to pay sales tax from the eShop, you'll have a balance in your wallet forever.

Turn off any scaling/stretching options in the driver control panel and try playing the games with pillarbox borders, you can use Nvidia's resize desktop option to create some custom resolutions that show up in most modern games, looks kind of ugly, maybe use some side masking if it bothers you.

Harsh! It's a marked improvement on the standard D-pad in my opinion. I have an arcade stick for fighters, but I'm having no troubles playing stuff like Castlevania with it - even the directional combos for spells.

just picked up an old Xbox? Definitley pick these cult classics up:

The Warriors
Oddworld: Strangers Wrath
Total Overdose
Grabbed By The Ghoulies

=D

Is there any benefit to leveling in Oblivion? Everywhere I look I keep reading why I shouldn't.
Better looking loot. The good stuff doesn't drop if your character's level is low. Just make sure you don't forget to level up your fighting skills before everything else and you'll be fine.

Here's a stupid "Which game should I get?" post:

1. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

2. Shadows of the Damned

3. Alice: Madness Returns

4. Vanquish

5. Enslaved

6. Donkey Kong Country Returns

VANQUISH!

I've just started the first Rune Factory (have completed the first cave), but I'm confused about one aspect of progression: How can I upgrade my watering can when I need it each day to keep my crops healthy? Leo takes it away for two days to improve it, and I can't quite see what I should do to crops to keep them going during that time. Is it actually safe to skip a day? Or do I have to hope I get lucky and the second day is rainy?

(I'd also like to reiterate my Saints Row question, since I'm likely to go shopping tomorrow! Is there a paper map in the box, or is it all in-game?)

I don't know about 1,2,3, or 6 but Enslaved was great. One of the best games I've played in awhile. I thought the story was great, the dialogue was great, the graphics and level design were great, the gameplay was great, etc. And Vanquish was awesome too. It wasn't a technical total package of perfection but the gameplay and graphics were top notch and it was a lot of fun.

Thanks a lot man! Also I didn't realize they let you choose 3 stats to increase upon leveling up.

So, say I'm impatient and want to grind for 3DS Play Coins. If I get 10 today, then set my clock ahead and get ten for tomorrow and do that for 5 days, then set my clock back to today, will I not get any more coins until 6 days from now?

I bought a retail Dawn of War 2 Gold online yesterday so I'm expecting it soon. I'm going to activate it on Steam when it arrives, if I install it from the disc and then activate it will I still need to download it off Steam?

So, I bought a 40gig PS3 a while back, and I didn't think I'd be running out of room, but I am. What do I do? Do I have to transfer everything to a bigger PS3? Can I store stuff on an external thingy? Do I have to delete things? Thanks

Also these two guys above me need their questions answered too.
