This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Will Silent Hill 3 and 4 look any better using composite cables for the PS2? Right now my PS2 is connected to a 19" hdtv using the standard red/white/yellow cables.

Is there a reason why blood type is mentioned in character bios? I've just noticed that Japanese games do this a lot and was wondering if there was a reason.

Its most likely due to the fact most of the time these things are listed on ID cards or reports and such just in case something would happen to the person that there blood could be easily found and maybe put to use.

What's GAF's general consensus towards Phantasy Star Zero? I saw it used on sale for $16 at Gamestop. Is it worth it? Does anyone even play it? Should I save my monies?

When will the the ambassador games from the 3ds eshop be available for all of us peasants who bought after the price drop? I want them!

I believe SMB is available in Japan for purchase but the honest answer is that we don't really know. There is no guarantee that the GBA games will be made available either but I expect they will be. However, they did say that the NES games would be made available for purchase. Nintendo are clearly using the ambassadors as beta testers. That is fine by me! :)

What you want are component video cables, and yes the games should look better, but not as good as they would on a CRT. You can buy the PS3 branded cables which are compatible with PS2.

As a member of the CRT DF, if you have the space I urge you to get a cheap Sony Wega, PS2 titles still look good on those.

Playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood with the DLC. Got to the point where The Da Vinci Disappearance was available, and triggered it - but since I didn't want to start that night, I quit rather than watching the intro cutscene.

Is there any way of watching that cutscene again? Worst comes to the worst, I'll go for Youtube, but I'm hoping there's an option within the game.

My XBLA Double Dragon hasn't worked in years, I've tried deleting and redownloading but it only ever shows up as a trial and now that it's been delisted have I lost it forever?

For now I'll just look into those cables. Thanks.

Could anybody explain me how some forums/websites do this "pixel counting" to find the native resolution on console games? I'd like to know how they do this :)

Step 1 - Find a good edge.

Step 2 - Zoom in and count the pixels.
Step 3 - Use math.

Why is Steam so frickin slow sometimes?

Often I will get:

Not just with TF2 and it seems like this is an everyday occurrence but I never hear anyone else complaining about it. Am I the only one who has this problem? Is my internet not fast enough? CPU issues? not enough RAM... I don't get it.

Okay so, my HP Touchpad is Wifi only, but I'm getting a 3G Vita...

Will I be able to tether my Touchpad to my Vita to get internets on the Touchpad when I'm in 3G range, or is that not a feature of the Vita?

Note that I don't want to do this the other way around!

Does anyone think TF3 be released? If so...when? Will they just constantly update tf2?
I'd give it... 5 years or so?

Why did the Dreamcast really flop?
Its awesome, period.

and why doesn't Sega make a Dreamcast 2........ into a handheld?
It came at an awkward time, the N64 and PS1 still had a bit of steam left in them, but, if I remember correctly, Sony had started the PlayStation 2 hype-train with their BS tech-demos and DVD playback stuff. That, plus all of the Dreamcast's other problems like it's kinda niche game library, a fucking OCEAN of peripherals, etc.

So I am watching the Knicks game right now just saw a Rockstar ad for Max Payne 3 then at the end said coming in May, maybe I have not been paying attention but are game TV ads starting to run 3 months in advance now?

I don't remember seeing one so early on TV like that.

I guess it depends on how large your marketing budget is. Halo 3 ran a television ad in December 2006, and the game didn't release until September 2007. I'm sure there are other examples, but I'm also pretty sure you're only going to see it with games that have a massive marketing budget.

Tethering and using your Vita's 3G with other devices is not a feature. It'll probably have to be hacked and written as homebrew before this is possible.

Didn't know about the Halo 3 ad running so early, it was actually a decent Max Payne 3 ad, they have run it a couple times already during this game. Max Payne 3 was not even on my radar before, even though I liked the 1st game, looks kind of interesting so guess it's working.

Why does everyone hate Super Hydlide? The music was good too!

Oh, and if you have your 360 offline and get achievements, can you "sync" them to appear properly online like you can do with the PS3?

They sync, but instead of showing a date and time of when they were achieved it just says "Offline" or nothing at all, so they tend to get sorted to the bottom of lists.

Yep, the Dreamcast was pretty much Sega's last throw of the dice to continue as a hardware manufacturer due to years of financial mismanagement. Sony didn't help with their F.U.D. of 'wait for Playstation 2' and misrepresentation of its capabilities. However, if Sega hadn't got themselves into such a parlous state over a period of years then that alone wouldn't have killed off the Dreamcast. Sony just gave them a helping hand :/. Effectively they just ran out of money to keep it all going. Releasing a home console takes an obscene amount of money and it's no surprise that so few attempts have succeeded and so few companies have been able to maintain that success from one gen to the next.

Speaking of the Sony F.U.D. At the time that the PS2 had just launched in Japan I saw a young man trying to hype up his friend about it. "90 million polygons man! 90 million polygons!!!" It was all I could do not to laugh and tell him what an ignorant muppet he was. I just enjoyed his friend being completely disinterested instead though :).

EDIT - there is an article on the Eurgamer site about the rise and fall of Sega that might we worth a look. I haven't read it yet so can't vouch for it but there you are :).

Sega had been messed up financially for years, they burnt a lot of bridges with fans and developers with the Mega CD, 32X and Saturn, and SoA and SoJ had basically been competing with each other for years ('a house divided against itself' etc). Sega was a mess at the time, and they just didn't have the cash to keep it going. The success of the PS1 and failure of the Saturn also meant that people were waiting for the PS2 rather than buy the Dreamcast which, at the time, seemed like a stopgap solution between the PS1 and PS2. Sony didn't really have all that much to do with the death of the Dreamcast, Sega managed to kill it just fine themselves.

And Sega just doesn't have the financial muscles required to launch a new console.

Around the release of Revelaitons - in a *remarkably* dumb move - Capcom started advertising RE6 in Europe.

Since I was pointed here, I have a PS3/360 colour question regarding my TV and don't know of a better topic to post in.

My PS3 can use the "RGB Full" setting and show all the blocks in this image but if I use expanded on the 360 on the same TV using the same settings just a different HDMI input it shows barely any of the blocks.

Anyone know why?

I've been playing through Final Fantasy IV on the PSP, and for some reason I'm finding it much more difficult than I remember from any other incarnation. (Yes, I'm replaying it despite having played and completed the SNES, GBA and DS versions.) I'm finding that every fight seems to be taking way more out of my party than it ought to. Typical monsters do around 10-20% of any given character's HP per hit, and while my party is never really in serious trouble, I still have to use up nearly all of a healer's MP to heal up the party afterward. Am I just being impatient due to not wanting to grind my party as much as I would have in previous versions, or did they somehow make the game harder?

I'm looking for an old game related video, and I first saw it in 2005 in about May.

It was the ending of Final Fantasy VI but instead of characters it was sprites of a walking N64, Saturn, PlayStation, SNES and other consoles. It was hosted on a Japanese website so I never knew what it was called or who made it.

Does anyone remember this or have a link/copy to it? I've been wanting to watch it again for years! Thanks in advance!

I am currently playing Alan Wake, and I wonder, will I be able to drive around the whole area at daytime somewhere later in the game? I think it would be a waste not to allow the player just to drive around.

Need a quick answer from GAF seeing as what I'm reading right now is unclear.

Is the Mass Effect 2 interactive comic for the PS3 loaded on the disc or is it DLC?

Thanks.

Did anyone ever make a mod to run Secret of Monkey Island: SE with the old graphics but also with voices? I seem to recall that turning off the new graphics also turned off the voices.

Can the PSMove not double as a dualshock for pre-move games?
I tried playing LBP1 with move but it recognized the nav and move as separate players even when I set them both as controller 1.

I am playing a game where you can't choose resolution. Its either tinyish or full screen. SO its set at 1366x768.

I am recording with FRAPS at full and would like to know how to trim to a resolution of 720? Any free programs that can do this?

You could use Virtualdub.
