This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

You can see Steam statistics at http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

At this moment:

It doesn't seem like a lot of people are still playing Call of Duty 4, but you can probably still find a match if you try.

So the left speaker on my psp 3000 is not working is there an easy way to fix it myself?

Why do female characters keep getting younger? And why do they look young but happen to be older? I'm mainly referring to JRPGs.
In Assassin's Creed Ezio's sister looks the same even though he keeps aging. Besides what game(s) are you talking about?

Could some explain in simple terms what Xfire is and does it work with Steam??
what google says:

Xfire - Gaming Simplified
Track, message, and talk to your gaming friends, join them in games, browse servers, take screenshots and download patches. Xfire supports over 3271 games.

what wiki says:

Xfire is a proprietary freeware instant messaging service for gamers, that also serves as a game server browser and has various other features. It is currently available for Microsoft Windows. Xfire was originally developed by Ultimate Arena based in Menlo Park, California. Xfire currently has over 21 million registered users, with frequently over 250,000 users online.

Googling x-fire takes far less time than waiting for an answer.

Like i said, i was mainly referring JRPGs. But, more specifically FF. I mean, in XIII & XIII-2 Serah to me looks like she's 15 maybe16. But, i think she's 21 in XIII-2. I know it's a culture thing and FF always has a Yuffie, Selphie, or a Vanille, ect. But, i joke that we'll eventually see preteens too. lol

I asked this question in the "Top 32 limited edition consoles" thread but haven't gotten a response so i'll ask it here:

Why Sony doesn't change the look of newer PS3 bundles with a design from a particular game theme like MS does with the Halos, Gears of Wars, and the most recent Star Wars Kinect, ect.? Is it simply that Sony doesn't wanna do it or is that MS holds some sort of rights to it?

There are plenty of limited edition PS3 systems, but they're less elaborate than the ones you mentioned. I guess they don't sell well enough to warrant a complete redesign of the case.

Hey, I bought a refurbished Game Gear (capacitors replaced so it should be running like new) but the ac plug on the system is different from my old Game Gear. I looked into it and there were two versions of the Game Gear, one that uses the Master System 1/Genesis 1 AC adapter and one that uses the Master System II/Genesis 2 AC adapter. I now own one of each kind of Game Gear, but I only have the AC adapter for the one that runs crappy.

Moving towards my question; when I look online for an AC adapter that works for the Game Gear/Genesis 2, they all say they output 10V. However, the Game Gear says it's rated for 9V input.

Now my actual question: Is it safe to use a 10V AC adapter on the Game Gear which is rated for 9V?

And if it's not, why can't I find any 9V Game Gear AC adapters?

Actually I just looked up the exact AC adapter the back of the Game Gear says to use (2103) and it's definitely a 10V adapter so I guess this is okay. But why does the Game Gear say it's rated for 9V yet tells you to use a 10V adapter?

So why is with the assassin's creed hate? I've played through all of them save revelation which I got from best buy awhile ago. And I don't see what is so bad about them. Is it just the yearly release thing people have a problem with?

The fact that the heroes can stroll around in that cool but flashy assassin outfit but no one is clever enough to spot them in the crowds. I mean, geeeeeezzzzzzz!!!

....

Seriously though, what hate? I think in GAF the games of the Assassin's Creed series--except for the first one--are generally revered.

I only played the first AC (and it was boring as all Hell), but I never noticed much hate on GAF besides a few people complaining about Desmond (?) and the overarching plot that supposedly got more and more whack throughout the games.

Those are few and far between. MS does one with almost every big game release. I mean, why didn't Sony do one for the release of inFAMOUS 2 or Uncharted 3? It would help sales.

What do you guys think about this guy:
http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/...episode-2--what---we-gave-him-another-episode

Do you like him? cause I dont, fucking hate him, just want to know if i the only one :)

My favorite person on Invisible Walls. Dude tells it like it is.

I have a weird question that doesn't deserve its own thread.

I own retail discs for Neverwinter Nights 2 and the first expansion, Mask of the Betrayer. I bought the second expansion, Storm of Zehir, digitally from Direct2Drive.

Big mistake!

Direct2Drive was purchased by Gamefly, and a number of games didn't make the cut - Storm of Zehir being one of them. Gamefly shows the game in my purchase history, but I can't download it, even though I bought it.

However, it DOES still show the CD-key from the game that I paid for. My question is - should I be able to download Storm of Zehir from a torrent site like Pirate Bay, if I'm going to be entering a legitimate key that I paid for? Or is that just it - my copy is no longer legitimate and my license has been revoked and I'm out of luck?

Unfortunately, I think I know what the answer is...

Sometimes you can be lucky with a legit copy on a torrent site. Meaning its untouched/not hacked and is either just from a download site. I lost my copy of windows and was able to fine an untouched copy (before finding the one site that hosts digital river one)

Why does PC monitors have less input lag than regular TV:s (even in gaming mode)? Is there a correlation between screen size and response time?

How long does it take to complete The Watchmen: The End Is Nigh? Looking to buy it but i've heard it's short but haven't come across an exact length for both episodes.

Thanks.

It's just a question of priorities, it's very important in PC monitors, so they all aim for low latency, it's not very important for TVs, so it's much lower priority. But it's not always the case, you can buy very low latency TVs.

Is there a better way of getting screenshots without using steam? I liek steam but mainly for easy use. Quick and uploads too.

Fraps is pretty great and there is a free version of it too. The screenshot feature in Steam compresses the shit out of the images which makes it rather useless.
I've got like $8.50 in PSN store credit.

Any game recommendations?
It's a lot easier to recommend games if you tell people which platforms you own (PS3/PSP/PSV) and which genres you're into.

Have you played the PixelJunk games? Those and Velocity are the only good really cheap PSN games I can think of. Most of my other favorites (Catan, Critter Crunch, Flower, Greed Corp, Journey, Mushroom Wars, Shatter, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, WipEout HD, and Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls) are a bit more expensive.

BMP is the only format that's available in the free version. You will get great quality images, but they're not suited for being posted on the internet. Use Photoshop or GIMP to convert them into JPEG. If HDD space and bandwidth isn't an issue you can go for PNG instead.

SO in term, Its PNG than JPG if you want the best?

1 PNG
2 JPG

?

Usually yes, but it depends on what settings you use. If you don't compress a JPEG too much then you can get great quality images that are a lot smaller (spacewise).

Edit: Here is a comparison image that shows artifacts caused by too high compression. You should never use JPEG for displaying text or graphs, but for it's great for e.g. real-life photographs.

Okay I've got a question that's been burning in my mind for some time.

I've been wanting to get into the Dead Space series, as the Giant Bomb quick look of Dead Space 2 really intrigued me.

However playing the Demo of Dead Space 1 (called Dead Space: Dismemberment demo), I simply cannot get into it. It feels awkward and I do not have nearly enough ammo to take out all the enemies they throw at me. Plus I have really no idea what I'm doing, frankly.

My question is this - is the demo indicitive of how the actual game plays? I felt like I shot at arms and legs repeatedly until they were cut, and by then my ammo was almost 0.

It's less a question of how hard it is and more a question of - does Dead Space 1 play as clunky as the demo?

It's a pretty terrible demo. You have to rotate the gun's 'muzzle' to take off limbs efficiently. Take a gamble on the game, you might not like it, but that demo won't tell you either way.

Which were the first FPSs to have these features:

Strafing
Mouselook
Freelook

?
Strafing - Wolfenstein 3D
Mouselook - Heretic maybe?
Freelook - Quake might be the first game that gave players total control of aiming.

I didn't play the demo for Dead Space, but having a limited amount of ammo is one of things that makes game fun. It adds a layer of tension and forces you to alternate between different weapon types.

For Ac3 will there be different skins for the character.

I just cant get over that white outfit. This is the deciding factor if I buy the game day one or wait for price drops.

Every AC since the first one has had buyable alternate colors. I imagine they'd leave that in this one too.

Being able to totally drop the hooded look is less likely. Though in the Naval Battle footage Connor is wearing a normal naval uniform. So I could see them allowing that as an alternate costume whenever.

thanks for the heads up.

I got a question related to gaming headsets...

I got a Siberia V2 headset. I want to extend the cable, so if I get these would it work?

edit: and by cable i mean the audio and mic

I have a code to download The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask on my Wii, but my Wii probably won't be hooked up to the Internet for a little bit.

Does the code expire?

If you use a 48 hour Gold code on Xbox Live, does that mean you can get in on the weekly deals too?

Almost said 'weakly' oops :3

Whatever happened to the "Download" button on Youtube? I remember being there even last week.

Anyone have any idea?

That's not a gaming question. Anyway, still got one, but it's likely just one of these YT downloader apps for chrome/ff. Google has done something against downloading mp3's with these.
Google Inc. doesn't want you to convert this video.
