It may be annoying, but it's a more effective method of deterring underage users. If they see one lone button, like YouTube had, they would just click it. If instead they were presented with a series if drop down menus, most users wouldn't be bothered entering the information.

Thanks, I'll try it if it disappears again. After opening up the pc, after my win7 disc got stuck in the drive (pin in emergency eject did jack xD), and removing all two cables connected to it and cleaned it out with my vacuum cleaner (I know, maybe a bad idea), it seems to work again. For now... Can't see how it got broken, it's practically in mint condition even if I bought in 2008 (for 30$ :lol). It's been in use like 5 times :P

Free will is about having choice. You assume that merely being presented with a choice would make us choose something crazy. You're right that there always external factors influencing our decisions, but in the end we make them, and no one else.

I doubt it. generally in tablets, laptops and netbooks, all the parts (ram, graphics, processor, etc.) are built into the motherboard. It's like asking if people will eventually start building their own graphics cards

What? Of course commercial pieces will eventually shrink enough for home tablet building can be viable. It's already possible, just not something an average computer tech would do.
 
How to bar tabs work? Last night I bought $10.75 in drinks and today there is a $30.00 charge on my credit cad. Is it safe to assume that they just do a temporary charge of $30 when you get a tab and then reduce or increase it to however much it actually ends up being?

I know the bartender and don't think he's trying to screw me but I just want to make sure there's no problem.

More likely they accidentally put other people's drinks on your tab, or one of your sneakier friends told them to put drinks on your tab. They don't actually run your card until you ask to close your tab, and a good bartender will verify with you that you actually want to use your card. Sometimes people give a card just to hold the tab open but would prefer to pay with cash.
 
Does anyone have any advice on using Dragon Naturally Speaking? I'm trying to transcribe a lecture mp3, but it's coming out "well well well the simple..." Not well. Can I use it to transcribe another persons voice? I made my profile with the best General American I could muster.

Changing a charge is probably not so simple that they can do it with every single tab. I can't explain the extra 20, but I doubt they would do a "temporary charge".

I thought that was how write-on-receipt tips worked though, even at restaurants (they always run your card and give it back before you sign the tip line).

I'll have a chat there tomorrow I guess. I still have the receipt at least.

It's been about 15 years for me and I'm sure things may have changed, but iirc when you run a card in a restaurant, you leave the transaction open until you've gotten the signature back with any tip to input, then you input the tip amount and finalize the charge. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though, cuz my memory is a bit fuzzy on this.

But in any case you never put a false charge on there that would be reversed later.

They're probably putting your card and the initial amount in their system and completing the transaction only when they know the final total. It wouldn't be productive to charge if they know it will most likely be changed minutes later.

Yeah this is basically it. That's why restaurants have to close/batch report the credit card sales at the end of the day. If that dude got charged $30, the price isn't going to be reduced unless he does something about it.

Because it's a living thing with a brain and central nervous system. I feel that way about goddamn near everything, from spiders I flush down the bathtub to frogs I accidentally run over with the lawnmower.

But in this case it's causing you and your property harm, so it needs to be taken care of, as unfortunate as it may be for the creature.

anyone know, Best Buy specifically, if you buy something with a credit card and choose to pay it off that month, is it possible to change that purchase to 6-month financing?

Basically I bought a computer at Best Buy last week and choose the option to pay it off completely at the end of the month. I'm probably going to need 2-months to do it, so can I call Best Buy and change to 6 month financing?

Im planning a one month vacation and all of my games I bought are on Steam and is it legal to install it in my laptop and activate an offline mode?

Am I violating STEAM's ToS?

Nah dude, that's one of the things that makes Steam awesome. You could download your games to 100 different computers, as long as you were only logged in on one at a time no one would care (Though some games have extra DRM that would prevent this. But to download to a 2nd computer is DEFINITELY not an issue). Offline mode can be kinda finicky though, so I would make sure you have it set up and working beforehand just in case.
 
You can install your games to as many computers as you want, ignoring any other third party DRM. Even if you're talking about running the same game across two different computers at the same time with offline mode, you should be fine.

I have a Euro 3DS and I would like to know if the following games are region free or not? They never got released in Europe, and I want to import NA copies. I think I found info that says Radiant Historia is playable on a Euro 3DS but I am not 100% sure. Can't find anything on SoD.

You can go to advanced power option and set it to sleep after an amount of time. There's no wait to go from sleep to use.

I don't want sleep though. If I'm downloading something (usually), sleep will stop it. Sometimes I forget to lock it, and I worry if someone isnt on my laptop when I'm out.

All DS games are region free. So they will play fine on any 3DS from any region.
 
GAF-related question as I scanned all the FAQs for the answer and didn't find one.
When do you become a full member? I think I read somewhere that it's 200 posts or something and 3 months of active account but can't even find that information anymore.

Just wondering.
