We've been looking to buy a camera for me and she found one cheap on this website, which we can't find the URL for... She payed through PayPal. She paid, and when there was an e-mail sent to her, it only listed a Hotmail e-mail as a contact e-mail and she's yet to get shipping information. There's no number to call, and the PayPal merchant is just a bunch of Chinese lettering.
I'm worried that she probably got scammed, and if there was a way to get the money back or something. She's e-mailing PayPal about it. Did she get totally ripped off, and if so can she get her money back?

I totally forgot about school zones now being in effect and didn't slow down until I was half way through one when I noticed a police car sitting on the side of the road. I didn't notice it until fairly late though and the officer surely saw me if they were looking. However when I drove past the car the officer didn't react to me at all and seemed to be looking at something in the car. Will speeding tickets ever be mailed out by the police later on or I am in the clear now? This is in BC, Canada for reference.

if they had a camera set up, you should probably expect a ticket in the mail. Here in edmonton they have lots of speed cams set up. they sit in a pickup truck parked on the median and snap your licence plate picture as you come around the corner

Is the camera typically inside the car or outside? Cause I only saw one officer sitting in the car and that's it.

For those who keep inventories of their movies, games and other media, how do you deal with series whose titles aren't necessarily in the same order chronologically as alphabetically? I guess the same goes for how you organize them on the shelf as well. I'm thinking right now I'll just go generally alphabetically, but override that for a chronological series.

For example, if going strictly by the recognized title of the 3 X-Men movies alphabetically, it should go:
-X2: X-Men United
-X-Men
-X-Men: The Last Stand

I guess the latter two Lord of the Rings films would also suffer from this conundrum.

inside the car, handled by one guy, and he doesn't have to be looking at the traffic to take the picture

Can someone tell me what this says in English?

Hey guys, can you help me out?

I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm trying to choose between Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering with a computing option. I want to do one of these because I'm interested in both hardware and software and want to have the ability to do both and learn about both.

I know a Computer Engineering degree covers software, but its content seems to be primarily focused on embedded systems and its not something I'm all that interested in at the hardware level. However I also have another option. My school has an dual degree in Electrical Engineering and Computing technology for a total of 5 years. Basically I take a standard Electrical Engineering degree but another whole extra year is added due to the fact I will also be taking Computer Science courses.

Here to give you a perspective. If I do the computing option, these are the programming courses that will be added onto my electrical engineering degree:
ITI1120 Introduction to Computing I
ITI1121 Introduction to Computing II
CSI2101 Discrete Structures
CSI2110 Data Structures and Algorithms
CSI2120 Programming Paradigms
CSI2372 Advanced Programming Concepts with C++
CSI3120 Programming Language Concepts
CSI3131 Operating Systems
SEG2105 Introduction to Software Engineering
SEG2106 Software Construction
And finally the last course is an elective in a computer engineer, computer science or software engineering class third year or higher.

Do you think it is worth it to take Electrical Engineering and these CS courses and stay an extra year in university? Will it make me significantly more marketable and increase my job market? Or Should I just stick with the Computer Engineering degree? Can a Computer Engineer do most Electrical Engineering jobs?

Alright, here's a stupid question:

So, I just bought an Xbox 360, an HDMI cable, and a new HD TV, without really knowing much about the latter two. Anyway, I was hoping to connect my 360 to my Bose sound system like I've been doing for my other systems the past 7 or 8 years, but I noticed that I can't connect an HDMI cable to it. It'll work if I use the cables that came with the system (the red, white and yellow ones. Yeah I don't know much about this) but of course those cords don't produce high definition visuals. So, is there anyway to use an HDMI cable AND be able to connect my 360 to the Bose Sound System or am I screwed?

Ok, my last question seems to have fallen off like so many of them do, so I'll just go with the organization scheme I went with. Here's another odd question though.

Most of us already know that quicksand isn't nearly as dangerous as it is depicted to be in fictional portrayals. Are there any naturally occurring, or even artificial ones for that matter, substances that can act like quicksand is supposed to in fiction? I've read that large pools of liquified manure and large bins of grain may do so, but how bad are they?

does your tv have headphone output?

I just looked at the back of the TV and I saw an output that my headphones fit into (it didn't send sound through the headphones though). It was labeled "PC/HDMI (audio)".

Pretty sure that's an input. I have one on my TV that works with the DVI input.

Edit: Eh "pretty sure" might be pushing it. Just speaking from personal experience.

Yeah I think you're right. In that case, no I don't see a headphone jack.

Stupid question. We have a long haired cat that we thought was a female for many years. Went to the vet and turns out it's a male. They had to shave it to find out. Which brings up the question, how do long haired animals mate? Cats or dogs. Is it even possible for them? Must be but how I don't know.

Also, how come when I try to go to hotmail it just tries to go to localhost?

How about optical for sound, HDMI straight to the TV for video?

what i do with my ps3 is i grabbed the old ps2 connecter that goes from the back of the ps2 into the red/white/yellow, then grabbed some sort of iadapter made for ipods/iphones or something, that accepts input, and on the other end it is a headphone jack. plug that into computer headphone slot, and plug hdmi cable directly into monitor, boom speakers playing sound and 24"computer monitor playing hd video

premise would be the same, just hook up one cord from the console to the sound system, and another cord from the console to the video system. look at the output options on the 360, and the input options on the bose system, and see what can fit.. buy adapters as needed

edit re-reading your post, use the red/white/yelow ones, just dont connect the yellow cord. also use the hdmi cable. go into xbox settings and choose the correct option for audio out

also maybe this will help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1hxuqkggrA

I am going to China next week and I was told to bring a gift. I have no idea what to bring. I was told that I should bring something only available in America but in this day and age I figured they can get anytihng shipped over there. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I bought the Time 9/11 anniversary edition, and in the editorial they mention that its only the third time they have changed the colour of the border, to black after 9/11 and to silver for this issue. Does anyone know what the other one was?

On April 28, 2008 they released a Earth Day issue dedicated to environmental issues. The cover had a green border.

eBay/PayPal help!

I sold a piece of DLC on eBay* a little while back, and the funds are still pending in PayPal and it says they may not be available for 21 days. WTF? I've sold DLC the same way before and never had this issue. I've already marked it as shipped in eBay and gotten positive feedback from the seller.

So basically is this normal all of a sudden? Because that sucks.

*I also advertise the physical paper/card but also will email the code if the buyer prefers.

Edit: Oh I see I also have to mark it as shipped in PayPal, does that mean I'll get the funds soon?

I've had that happen before, and when the buyer left positive feedback it released the funds for me. I don't really know why it didn't happen for you.

I also have a Paypal question, I've got a $500 monthly withdrawl limit, how do I find when it resets? And I know I could lift it, but I'm not sure if I really want to give Paypal my social security number.

I may be leaving home for a few months and I have a mini fridge (with freezer) in my bedroom. How do I go about shutting it off? Last time I did this, the ice (from the freezer) melted and overflowed into the fridge part and when I opened it up it was all moldy. Do I shut it off a few days in advanced, let everything melt and clean up the mess?

Bring it outside and let it thaw and drain.

I'm just worried the guy is going to withdraw his funds or something and I'm going to get screwed; is that possible?

Anyone here have experience with those eye strain glasses for pcs? After working on a pc for 7 hours, then coming home and working on other projects or gaming for another 2-5, my eyes hurt like hell.

I do have anti glare coating on my glasses which helps but no I don't have those yellow tinted ones.

Try this software, it's free and it adjusts the color temperature of your screen and in fact automatically changes throughout the day.

http://stereopsis.com/flux/

Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.
f.lux

F.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

F.lux is great, been using it for years. When I'm working on art stuff at night I disable it but otherwise I always have it on at startup and enable gradual transitions to make it unnoticeable when it lowers the temp.

Does anyone know if there is a special process to appeal for a username change? I emailed the GAF support address back in spring, received no answer, and PM'd Evilore with no reply a few months ago. It's a security concern that has recently developed (that I brought upon myself), so it's more than vanity.

How do I make a search engine search for Mortal combat? Google keeps searching for Mortal Kombat! :P

Search: "mortal combat" in quotes, then click the search instead for "mortal combat" under the bar.

Would there be any problem with using a non-MS (unofficial) HDD for my 360S? I saw one on eBay that is significantly cheaper than the official, looks exactly the same, but is third party. Is there any possibility my account could be banned or the thing might not even work?
