is there a way to remove everyones avatars or just images in general on gaf? Some of them are pretty weird and don't want people to see them when i'm at school.

It's not necessarily the cpu. It could be the motherboard, graphics card, ram or something else choking. Depends on how you overclock. A lot of times overclocking works on not just the cpu, but other components as well.

For the cpu it could be heat (the cpu usually has a maximum temperature where it will automatically shut off, to avoid catastrophic failure). Or the chip could be getting too much voltage, which can cause a chip to malfunction or get completely fried. Chips can usually only tolerate a certain amount of voltage over the standard that powers a non-OC'ed chip.

You should be able to just turn off images in your browser. That's what I do when I'm on GAF at work.

In Firefox, Tools->Options->Content, uncheck "Load images automatically". Probably something similar for other browsers.

I'm going to show you how to do this, but you should try to stop caring about what people at school might possibly think over silly things.

-Click on "user cp" at the top of your screen next to the GAF logo
-Click on "edit options" on the left hand side of the screen
-Scroll down until you see the blue header that says "Thread Display Options"
-Go to the section that says "Visible Post Elements"
-Untick "Show Avatars"
-Scroll to the bottom of the page
-Click on "Save Changes"
-Continue cruising GAF, but continue to look over your shoulder constantly at school whenever someone types a post that has the word "pedo" in it

I'm not really familiar with how it works, but EPU-6 just has four presets: turbo (OC), high (stock), medium (underclocked), max power saving (even more underclocked). As far as I can see, all you can really change in the settings is the "CPU Frequency." I'm guessing it must be a matter of temperature, as I accidentally just set it to turbo with the previously stable 18% and it immediately crashed. I guess I'll just keep it at 15% since I know that remained stable through three hours of Bad Company 2.
 
I ordered something from amazon and never received it. I was charged for it and USPS says it was delivered yesterday but the package was not at my house and no one that was here heard a knock or signed off on it.

What should I do?

e: nvm, it got put into my neighbor's mailbox.
 
Now that I'm in Win7 64-bit, would there really be any use for having 8GB of RAM as opposed to my current 4GB? I imagine it wouldn't really have much impact on gaming, and I don't really do much in the way of video encoding or 3D rendering. My mobo is a few years old, so I'd be stuck buying some older DDR2, which like the Socket 775 CPUs, looks like it's more expensive than new components.

Edit: And would this RAM be compatible with this RAM? Their specs match up almost entirely, but the previous one, which I own, is discontinued and unavailable.
 
Is there audio playback software that jacks up the volume? Windows Media Player isn't cutting it for me.

For the curious, I'm running capturing software as well, which has its own volume that is really distracting. If I find a program that plays back audio louder, I can hear what I want while relegating the other stuff to background noise.
 
When you order a simple black coffee from Starbucks do they put sugar in it?

Because I'm compelled to say "no sugar" but I'm not sure if they would have omitted the sugar anyway.

No. They expect you to add your own sweeteners and creams to a regular coffee.

If you want to test stability, use a program called OCCT, run the Linx test for one hour. Also download a program called Prime 95 and run that for 24 hours. If your comp passes both of those tests with the overclock, it's gonna be pretty stable.
 
Does anyone remember that site that allowed you to translate the same phrase back and forth a lot, like 100's of times? It was posted in OT but I can't remember or find it via search.

Are you running Windows 7? If so, hit up your windows button, and search for "Snipping Tool". No need for editing after that.
 
How hard is it to remove the LCD screen cover from a laptop? Mine has some weird marks near the center of the screen and a bit of dust on the inside, so I'd like to clean it somehow. I have no idea how the mark got in there, but I'm positive it isn't pixel related.

EDIT: Real question that was inspired by the "found a wallet" thread. If you turn money into the police station, do you actually get to keep it after 60 or so days, or is that just a myth?
 
If all humans were to suddenly die would cows eventually be able to develop strategies to survive and become feral? Or would they just more or less die out? (assuming they could get out of their fenced in fields)

In a similar vein - what were cows doing before they were domesticated? Were they just roaming in fields like buffalo? Its a weird thought.
 
What is a "base" when referring to sauces.

The other day a dude was over and he was like "what did you use for the base?", referring to an amazing pizza I made, and I was like, "you mean the sauce?" and he was like "uhhhm, okay sure, 'the sauce.' "

I didn't question him with what "base" meant, simply because I did not want the conversation to become even more awkward.

Usually you have some basic sauce- a tomato paste, mustard, oil, vinegar- which you then add to so you get the desired final sauce.

Like my dad, he just buys plain tomato paste because he'd rather add to that with his own homegrown herbs. So when he makes pizza or pasta, the tomato paste is his "base". I get Wegman's sauce and just add a little roasted garlic, so I have pre-made sauce as my "base".

Barbecue sauces, you get a lot more discussion and variety about whether they're molasses-based, or mustard-based, or vinegar-based, and which is better, and so forth.
 
I'm thinking of adding lyrics to my songs on iTunes because I like working on my music collection.

http://lyrics.wikia.com/ seems to be a great site, however, I have several versions of a lot of my songs which has slightly different lyrics. This is stupid, but I'm a bit OCD-y when it comes to this. Does anyone know a similar site to LyricWiki where you can find different lyrics to the same song?

I'm assuming I won't get lucky here, but it's worth a try.
 
These are the specs for my laptop:

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
4gb RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v

It's only a i3...yet I can handle games like Crysis...

1) What about my specs make that possible?

2) What's the real difference between i3...5...7...?

If you don't think you need it, I'd save the money. You're right about DDR2 getting more expensive than DDR3 and that's a trend that will keep on continuing.

That RAM should be compatible with each other. Just keep them in pairs, don't mix and match to get dual-channel.
 
Need some help. I'm on MSDNAA thanks to my University and I need to download Access 2010 for one of my courses. I go through the download process, get my product key, and when I finally launch the .exe for it, some program called Power2Go pops up telling me to burn the .exe onto a disc or something. Is there anything I can do to avoid this? I thought this would just be a simple download and install. :(

You have to use their downloader to get the file, but you can just save it to a directory and not a disc.

If it's a .iso you will have to virtually mount it or physically burn it to a disc though.

You cannot make threads of a sexual nature. If a politician gets caught with his pants down, that's fine I think cause it's news, but no threads like "GAF help me learn to please a woman". And threads that devolve into sextalk will likely get closed.

Best I could find in a 5 second search: AdSense Terms and Conditions (Section 5(v), prohibited uses)

But even in these terms I don't see why we're so restricted, since we've never allowed pornographic content on the site. There is probably a better place to get the information.
