Can we talk about how garbage Ichigo's bankai is? Even Renji's first bankai was more interesting. Hell his entire Zanpakuto is lame as fuck. He gets a giant butcher knife that shoots energy waves. Generic. But then he gets this badass bankai:

Look at that shit. A nice-looking black katana that lets him move at very high speeds.

Except like two chapters/episodes later, everyone is moving as fast as he does when he uses his bankai. So it basically becomes a regular fucking sword that he probably only uses to fight more comfortably because swinging around that giant cumbersome shikai was a pain in the ass. A shikai that he didn't even use correctly.

And what does it even do now? It's a multi-layered sword that getsugas extra hard? Fuck you.

I agree, but to be fair, Ichigo had super speed but hadn't mastered the required secondary power of a sturdy body to handle that kind of speed, and he's not speedforced up like The Flash so he couldn't use it.

Speaking of Flash, I actually thought Ichigo would finally master the super speed and use that to counter Yhwach's "I can see all futures, all possibilities" by moving too fast for Yhwach to predict or see his future.

get some go again
Kubo got pressured in ending this arc way too soon.
at least kubo got time to write himself into a shitty ending. toriko basically had to throw away all future planning and rush through whatever story the author had planned.

I read it every week, and I didn't even know it's is ending that soon. It only felt like we were nearly the climax fight 2 weeks ago.

How can he possibly wrap everything in two chapters? The fight has to end this week then.

My hypest moment by far in Bleach, the moment that made stay with this shit manga for all this years:

Edit: removed the image because of piracy or whatever :|

Toriko's ending too?

Do the higher ups try and have several series end at once? I mean, Bleach is getting pushed out the door, Nisekoi's ending in August too, and Toriko too now.

Toriko had the worst ratings in Jump right now with zero international appeal, something called chronicle was doing worse.

Typically they need to make room for new series. This was always Bleach's end. It was announced several years back there were two arcs left after Aizen, when it was still a big draw. So while Bleach and Toriko are both at the low end for the Jump ratings, Bleach's was a planned so they are just riding it out, while Toriko just tanked hard.

Bleach's ending has been in the works for a while, yeah, but clearly it wasn't intended to be ending next week until much more recently.

I was just waiting and hoping for years that Ichigo's Bankai was more than just a black metal sword that somehow shot out Getsuga Ten's of varying...uh, I don't know, they all look like black Cero's, length. He has a tassel, so maybe there was a relation between Shirosagi's style and that, or the pattern on his hilt meant something, but nope. Nope, nope, nope, vanilla as hell just like it's wielder.

He has a new bankai: Tensa Zangetsu!

We have no idea what it does and likely never will.

Sucks to see it end so abruptly, but Kubo dragged this shit out way too long at the same time.

Kubo's biggest mistake was making the Zero Squad fodder.
if he had let them have their glory after wrecking Juha Bach's elites, he could have had them job to Bach and then have a lot more room to do the ending properly.

that was one of the last moments i couldn't wait a week to see the next chapter.

Remember when Bach sealed Yamamoto's Bankai into one of those Quincy medallions and hinted that he was one of the only ones strong enough to wield it?

Because Bach doesn't.

maybe there will be a bleach movie to add to the ending. going to be kinda weird once bleach is gone though. 2 out of the 3 mangas i've read the longest are now gone. once toriko is gone too i will only have one piece to read and hxh whenever it comes back on.

Time to read one of the best manga i had ever read named "HELCK" veryyyy good.^_^

Chapter's out.

Did Aizen really have to job at the last minute? :(

Hopefully, he's not done for.

Please let him pull out a Bankai and that everything in the final fight was an illusion and Ywach is already dead

What a shit show

I mean Bleach wasn't good these past 5-6 years (I enjoyed the Fullbringer Arc though), but this shit show? Wow. Fucking Wow.

Let me reiterate my question better. With Naruto I read the last ~7 chapters or so and they were self-contained enough for me to get what's going on even if I skipped years worth of material. Is there an equivalent in Bleach if I know next to nothing about the last arc?

I'd say read up on the bleach wiki's.

Look up the articles on the characters you're interesting in. Odds are they've done nothing. But it'll be a good enough grounding.

Like many, the peak of Bleach was the SS arc. It wasn't perfect, but it had the right balance of awesome moments, powers and payoffs.

With subsequent arcs, Bleach started losing more and more of those pieces.

The Arrancar arc, imo, suffered from not delivering any real sense of payoff to anything it set up. Orihime/Ulquiorra relationship had no payoff. The build-up to Winter War had no payoff. The war itself had no payoff since it was barely a war, just skirmishes. The tension had no payoff with so many characters not using Bankai or being at their 100%. It just felt so meaningless, watching so many beats in Bleach delivered so poorly.

There is practically no equivalent to the Aizen reveal or Ichigo stopping a giant flaming bird to save Rukia, or Ichigo's Bankai reveal in the Arrancar arc. No moments that are subtly built up over the course of the arc, to deliver a massive FUCK YEAH moment. Every major moment felt so cheap and rushed.

But even then, I enjoyed it for cheap thrills and fun.

But the Quincy arc...

What the fuck was Kubo thinking with the power escalation of the villains? Practically every enemy power was some form of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure overpowered and super specifically impractical stupid. It became a game of counters without any of the strategic thought behind them, just there for the sake of being super powerful so that the counter could be as ridiculous as it was.

And if Arrancar arc payoffs were terrible, it manages to be so, so, so much worse in this arc. Practically half of the subplots will end up unexplained, unfulfilled and even those that are... most of them are baddddd.

He who pursues two rabbits gets two rabbits.
I mean, the 4 races in general are never really ever explained.

Quincies were supposed to just be humans with bow powers that could kill hollows instead of purify them.

Then it turns out they're like, some weird amalgamation of the other three races that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

That's just the first thing that comes to mind for me in a macro sense, I'm sure I could fill a whole thread with dumb micro shit.

Much of the quincies' role in general -- and Ichigo being part-quincy specifically -- has always come off to me as being either a huge retcon or at least an example of really poor planning.

The idea that the entity that was up until now known as "hollow Ichigo" is actually the source of Ichigo's shinigami powers, and not hollow powers, sounds no less silly to me now than it did upon its reveal.

Chapter's out.

Did Aizen really have to job at the last minute? :(

Hopefully, he's not done for.

I'm just hoping for the most troll-ish ending I can get at this point. There's no way this series can go out on a high note; might as well shoot for the absurd/interesting.

Aizen being unceremoniously dumped at the last minute is at least a little funny. Not nearly as good as Aizen coming out on top the victor in the end, but I'll take what I can get.

It's a shame it is ending where it is, deserves a bit more time to wrap everything up but hopefully this means Kubo may return to Zombie Powder.
