TLOU Season 2 Finale Viewership Drops 55% From Season 1 Finale

I thought Bella was fine in the first season, but she completely missed the mark on the character change Ellie has in part 2. The writing all around was a noticeable tier down from season 1, and I'm a fan of both games. Not sure what the hell happened.
Yeah huge Last of Us fan here, love TLOU2 game, the TV show is a bit shit! There's also so little action regarding the infected that you forget why they are even in a post apocalyptic world in the first place. It's not much different to any old TV drama. They definitely fucked it up... It feels rushed because they could have done so much more.

I definitely enjoy watching Dina so much more than Ellie in the show.

Another thread to confirm some biases despite the fact that globally S2 is consistently more successful and viewership numbers are higher than S1.

American initial viewership is irrelevant due to Memorial Day and people touching grass instead of watching season finale.

I do have my problems with S2 (and I love the second game), but on the other hand I hate creative stats spinning for the sake of an empty sensationalism.

But nice nitpicking. I guess.

This. Agreed that in s1 BR was poor. In S2, slicked back hair and anger... She actually fits the character better than in s1. Don't let the truth get in way thou.

Us gamers are a toxic bunch and it's more prevent now more than ever.

I feel bad for Bella Ramsey, but I'm glad Mando is off to new movies. He's too good for this…

Though I think they should have just done a different thing for TV. Everyone would have been happy, Last of Us 2 deniers, normies. Even diehards probably would have perversely enjoyed it.
Pedro Pascal was told the story when he accepted the role. Joel dying was probably a big reason why he decided to do it. I don't think he wanted to commit to many seasons.

I'm confident that viewers are going to enjoy it much more in the show honestly. Bella Ramsay is a horrible, fucking horrible Ellie.

Put they're going to water the action down again with tranny Lev, his tranny backstory and then try to pull the Joel and Ellie bonding but with Abby and Lev
HER tranny backstory.

lol. I'm currently half way through season 2 and it is so far pretty shite. I could just about manage watching season 1.

Bella as Ellie has to be one of the worst miscastings in recent times. Sure, the writing blows this season but her acting and appearence is really fucking distracting. There has to be some sort of syndrome behind that emotionless and smooth Mr. Potato Head face. There's nothing behind those eyes.

Thank god for Dina's character for bringing som personality and warmth to the series this season.

The show hasn't even hit the part gamers hated the most - where the story suddenly does a 180 and turns the villain into the protagonist and tries to make you feel sympathy for a totally unsympathetic character. This show is in trouble.

It's quite satisfying to see regular audiences get turned off too, and to see all those gamers who enjoyed the violent gameplay and tried to convince themselves this shit was Shakespeare or something look silly.
Ngl the 180 degree turn into abby focus might be a better thing for the show, considering the actress playing abby seems to at least be better than ellie.

The main actor's character was killed off. The girls acting couldnt carry the show. The end.

The plot is pretty thin in the first place. You can tell her triangle love angle with Dina & Jesse are just side plots to add to the barebone main plot

Just change the story more and have that better looking girl at the front cover and Abby be the main characters in the show. And also make them have lesbian sex while Ellie watches from the side.

Both seasons were kind of bad. They had their moments. But Season 2 especially suffered after Joel's death more than the game did. Bella Ramsey is not good enough to carry a show. And the dynamic with her and Dina sucked.

Honestly I'm more interested in season 3 with Kaitlyn Dever as she had more screen presence than any of the non-Pedro Pascal actors in Ellies story. The story is still a lazy retcon but I've already watched two seasons.

I think season 3 will be better because despite the lack of muscles Kaitlyn Dever has it down pat as Abby. She captures her demeanor and permanent scowl and everything.

Wait, you're telling me the one thing that made the game extremely decisive and angry is also the one thing that is making people abandon the show in droves? No way...

was honestly hoping they'd use the show to rewrite the canon...

He'll have a few more flashback scenes next season but the work load will be easy. It's one of the most watched shows so from a career point of view he's probably happy to be apart.

After playing the games I have to say I loved S2. No buff Abby is a nice bonus.

TLOU 2 was once the most highly decorated game in history before Elden Ring and the Both seasons of the HBO series have almost perfect ratings everywhere.

TLOU is a masterpiece, stop posting biases and hatred. Thanks.

My wife isn't a gamer, she has seen me play a lot of both TLOU games and watched the show with me. The first time she saw Bella, she was like, what the fuck is wrong with her face, does she have down syndrome IRL? LOL

Literally every episode my wife commented about how retarded this girl looks and how she can't stand to look at her face! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Personally, I don't care how good of an actress Bella is, she is not the right fit for playing Ellie, especially season 2.. She still looks like a child and makes the show look more unrealistic than Abby's muscles in the game.

I have yet to start season 2. But something I don't get (as I have heard part 2 will be told over seasons 2 and 3?) Is that why didn't they just have that famous death scene end season 2?

They knew the previous gaming fan base wasn't happy with that choice. So why follow the same for the show?

I know it's hard to grasp for some people, but they simply don't care for "more of the same" type content, which would have been the easy, crowd-pleasing choice. On the podcast they discuss looking at that option and how they decided that there's just nothing substantial to tell before that event. Joel's death has always been the catalyst for the story they wanted to tell. They were not interested in a "More Adventures of Joel and Ellie" type show.

Would a Netflix show with every episode and season written around maximizing audience retention have been different? Almost certainly. But there's a good chance it would have resulted in rather soulless "content" aimed at stretching a show to the max while keeping all options for further story development open. In other words, the kind of slop that gives streaming shows a bad name.

Doesn't mean they pulled everything off perfectly. I don't think they did. But I will say that this is really not the point where a major change would have resulted in a better result.

That would all be great, IF the show wasn't terribly done. I just dont think the source material is strong enough.

Last of us 2 plays well but its a bloated, exploration of torture porn thats just miserable.

I'm not trying to hate on this girl, we all have our pecularities, but how does someone with this face become a famous actress in this huge starring role

The problem is that this is very poor. A revenge story of "someone killed my beloved X" is the simplest story someone can write. That speaks volumes about Neil Druckmann's creativity. He's a great game director, but as a storyteller he sucks big time.

Just compare this to The Walking Dead, where main characters also die, but in a completely different fashion, with richer story lines, worldbuilding, etc.

And yes, Joel's death is a bad copycat of a certain character's death of that other series but made a hundred times worse.

That's pretty dishonest. >A revenge story of "someone killed my beloved X"< barely covers a fraction of the game's actual plot. It doesn't cover the prelude leading up to Joel's death, it doesn't cover any of the flashback content, and it doesn't cover any part of Abby's story (which is about half the game in itself).

Every time I watch, mongo Ellie grates on me. I know it's me, but I just have a hard time seeing past her weird gene pool. Strong involuntary reaction not everyone is susceptible to obviously.

That's because it's fucking shit and they cast a lead actress who looks like Ray Winstone in a wig after having part of THEIR brain removed.
