TLOU Season 2 Finale Viewership Drops 55% From Season 1 Finale

I'm a big fan of Part 2 and the show but I'm not suprised. Of course many will be less interested without Pedro Pascal and I'm sure HBO expected it. I'm glad the writer's are true to the game and their vision and don't do things to please the audience. The adaptation of Part 2 could have been better though.

The reason i wanted to keep playing TLOUS was to see Ellie literally killing everybody to get to Abby.

She kills no one in this Season

It was Memorial Day weekend. This is kind of a straw man argument. Don't get me wrong, criticisms of the show are valid but don't let your hate boner cloud your judgement.

I'm tired of the dude because he's cast like everywhere, but yeah, he was the one carrying the show, without him, you have nothing but memes of Bella Ramsey's head 😂
Pedro was in a show called Calls on Apple TV+ that's sound-only, and he still absolutely killed it. Dude is amazing. If you haven't checked the show, you should—it's good.

They really tried to do the same exact thing again and expected different results.

This is a great point. It's like Naughty Dog and Druckmann convinced themselves that the backlash they got was because of the leak, and because of haters, and because of chuds, and all those people just were bigot sandwiches who could not appreciate the genius of the game they built.

But if a different crowd of people - mostly those who liked TLOU2 and HBO watchers - reacted in the exact same way to the exact same story, what does that say?

They didn't react the same way. I haven't seen the same kind of weird hate for the show. Also the game sold really well.

Edit: Except from the people who already disliked the game.

Just like in the game, the TV series is kinda pointless without Joel around.

I don't know how they fix this for Season 3 without writing a lot of new Joel scenes for the TV series. A lot of them.

The biggest issue is that Ellie is an idiot on the show when in the game she is intelligent and well read. She seems like a child who has to be saved by Dina or Jesse all the time.

Would like to know who at HBO decided to renew this for a third season before season 2 was aired, knowing the fan's reaction to the second game.

And people said but TLOU2 was still a commercial success and didn't damage the IP… lmao

Kinda already knew this would happen.

The show isn't backed by the amazing game mechanics so it just relies on writing and story which personally sucked ass. There is no catharsis just endless disappointment.
Amazing game mechanic.

Sneaking, crafting basic items, stealth kill, cutscene, repeat.

The game mechanics is as deep as a puddle.

I like to let a show come out, then watch the full season, so i haven't jumped into it...

but I've not heard good things so far, and I don't just mean internet rage and memes, as in friends and family who loved the first season are saying this one kind of sucks.

Some opinable choice for the series script, especially the Ellie role. By the way I don't find so terrible the whole season in all honesty but definitely some changes ruined a lot of the most important scenes imo.

as opposed to what though, like majority of games aren't that in depth, Elden ring and most from games as amazing as they are, aren't mechanically all that deep either, attack, roll for Iframe, attack, roll for Iframe, on to next boss.

the difference is that Elden ring has an incredibly designed world and incredible moment to moment gameplay with fantastic boss fights and interesting enemies. TlouP2 may have a repetitive combat loop but it creates memorable set pieces and interesting moments. The rat king fight is different to the arcade fight which is different to the underground and so on, and whether you like it or not, the story is told at a bar higher than any other studio, even if it's a story that is unliked.

also games with too much mechanical depth can be meandering, pointless and in some cases confusing.

Wow, it's almost as if people who didn't play the game had the same reaction as those who did. They predominantly hated it.

That's impossible, I heard that TLOU2 was loved by all who played it. Ignore the fact that it had horrible legs and crawled its way past 10M over two years, something GOW did in just one, after selling 4M in its opening weekend. In a time when PS4 games were greatly outselling their predecessors, TLOU2 greatly undersold it.

The fact is, in a world where UC4 sold 18M+ and GOW sold 23M+, TLOU2 should have easily sold 25M+. Especially considering the fact it had a much higher install base to sell to and TLOU was Sony's biggest game on PS3, outside of GT. Instead it's probably stuck somewhere at 13M, alongside GOT, a brand new IP. Not a flop but greatly underperformed by 10M easily. It's why Sony is in no rush for TLOU3, cancelled the multiplayer game based in that world, and Druckman said there probably won't be a 3rd game in the series.

Amazing doesn't mean complicated. I say this as a Paradox games enjoyer. I have also played Dwarf Fortress so I know what deep gaming mechanics are. Anybody who played Tetris would say it's not deep but it is amazing nonetheless.

Amazing in this case is simply a combination of reactivity, enemy AI, physics, location design and enemy placements. More importantly, how good it feels to play.

Stealth, gunplay, mid fight crafting really gets pushed at harder difficulties. Of course couple that with resource management which makes encounters throughout the whole game something to look forward to and plan ahead.

Agree but the core elements are super well done for a slow, methodical, realistic stealth-tps.

Sometimes a game can feel amazing with just basic mechanics.

As someone who played like 45 minutes of the first game before getting bored and quitting, and hasn't watched the show at all, ^ is this line actually in the game??

The main actor's character was killed off. The girls acting couldnt carry the show. The end.
Basically this.

I actually liked TLOU2, but it only works when we are taken through the entire dark arc of Ellie (and, mirrored by Abby). She is a complicated, complex, and dark character throughout the game. Revenge is killing her and everyone around her. Its decaying her from the inside pushing everyone away. She is not a heroine. The show is very tentative in going down that path. And, Bella Ramsey has no where near the acting chops to pull that off (even with the weaker script).

It feels more like teenager "edgy" rather than a deeper look at the cycle of violence and revenge. The game, love or hate it, did have a more serious tone and did try and tackle these things.

I recommending playing the game. The part just after the intro is a bit boring. It gets much better. Its the least interesting part in the show too.

That line isn't in the game and I don't get why many seem to have a big problem with it. Its just one line.

Except this is infinitely worse than the game.

It makes the game, which is shit, look like a 10/10 by comparison.

Saying this while the father is still alive is some wild shit. Makes her come off like a psycho.

Oh yeah, because the first game was totally his work.

lmao
Its hilarious how the haters have convinced themselves that he didn't actually write the game. Writing being collaborative effort doesn't mean that someone didn't do the most work. Don't bother posting links. I have seen the "proof". :D

'You are a hater, a bigot, a transphobic and a mysonogist.'

But please, don't be me the one stoping you from praise this masterpiece that part2 was. Mcdonals have the best burgers too.
