what exactly are laundry pods? don't have them in my country

They're basically laundry detergent in a plastic bubble that is water soluble.

All you have to do is just toss it in with your laundry instead of putting detergent in the detergent tray. Makes it easier since you don't have to measure for a load, just toss one in.

7 months is an infant, not a toddler. But that isn't the point. These things need to be put in containers with child proof lids. And parents need to not be morons and put them out of reach of small children. And children need to not be stupid and spit things out if they taste gross.

Wow.

This is really sad.

Before I say anything this accident is 100% the parents fault they should never have left these pods within reach. To the guy earlier saying "chalk it up to kids being dumb oh well" go fuck yourself. Tell that to the mother that lost her child. I have an 18 month old little girl and she gets into everything. We are pretty careful and things have child locks etc. Last weekend she somehow managed to get into the guest bathroom and I found her playing in the toilette. I walked into the kitchen to get a drink maybe 60 seconds. She could have easily fallen in and drowned. oh well stupid kids do stupid stuff right?

No.

Children are learning how to become human beings they don't know things are dangerous and things can kill them. Its not some game where you play statistics and hope for luck. You work as hard as you can to protect them and sometimes, just like an adult life accidents can happen. Its still devastating.

In my day bleach was the enemy, But that shit was kept in a cupboard with a child lock. Parental negligence here. Its not like a marketing company sets out to make a product like this appealing to children!

We keep all our cleaning supplies in a special cabinet in the laundry room at shoulder height.

Get that stuff out of reach people!

I don't blame the kid either, those things would be awfully tempting. The bags/containers also have repeated warnings on them to keep them out of the reach of kids (though that should be pretty obvious).

A seven month old doesn't have a massive range of mobility, the pods must have been somewhere within insanely easy reach. It's impossible to keep track of your kid at all times, it's not impossible to child-proof or move certain items. All of our cleaners and poisonous chemicals are in cabinets far higher than the kids could reach or up on high shelves in a closet they can't open.

Gotta do that as kids will get into everything, and everything goes in their mouth.

She was in a battered woman shelter. They handed out the pods, so she probably didn't have a box for them. She probably didn't have a crib, or anywhere else to put the laundry basket. It's a tragic accident. Preventable maybe, but an accident. The mother wasn't negligent, just innatentive, but given her likely situation this is understandable.

scroll up. The mother left the (brightly colored, poisonous) detergent pods directly next to the infant when he was sleeping, then left the room.

"candy-colored liquid laundry packet".

Everything is "candy colored" because there is a piece of candy for every color.

Keep that shit away from your kid. All chemicals that can be ingested need to be out of reach. Why it was in reach and open and available to even go through the process of eating is surprising.

Shit. Yeah, that would do it.

I wonder if she had a drawer or something to put them in.

We don't need every single morbid story that GAF finds in their local news paper to be posted here. This became a problem about six months ago, and Evilore put a stop to it.

I use these pods and don't have kids and still store them up high in a closed cabinet. No excuse for having them right by the child. Absolutely tragic

If he has a problem with it he will stop it, I'm sure. Just don't click on the thread.

Also turn off your TV and radio and everything else that gets a news feed.

Those things could definitely look like candy or food to a small child. This is an unfortunate event, but hopefully other parents will make extra care that these are hidden away or out of reach.

I want more happy stories.
