Tom Warren reporting Avowed to be delayed to early 2025

As much as many don't want that, I can't help but not be surprised. I feel like the development for Avowed has felt kind of messy. Hopefully it at least comes out in solid shape, it's too hard to tell at the moment.

Obsidian's last major game was Grounded, and that's become a favourite amongst my circle. Happy to give them the benefit of the doubt here - it doesn't make sense for Microsoft to release its own titles more than one a month, so shifting Avowed out makes sense when it would be a smaller title stacking up against CoD, STALKER 2, etc.

breathing room outside of a very busy period for Xbox Game Pass.

If this was ever true they'd just stop working on the game and put that money into developing a new game and just ship avowed in 2025. Fucking lying ass PR speak. Just say what it is, the game isn't ready

If true, another example of GP not living up to the best value in gaming tag tossed around. For those who say 'its no big deal its still coming' or 'I've got too much to play anyway', every delay, every month that goes by without promised games means that months membership value is diluted.

Sounds like a lot of nothing in 2025 for Xbox, if they are fine with moving Avowed. Not a good situation to be in when they want to continue to push Game Pass.

Guys, gamepass for q4 currently has COD!, indy, stalker 2 and probably even more third party goodness.

That's an insane q4 for a service. One major game a month is more than many ever hoped for.

I remember when people were saying, if MS can get one first party game a quarter that's huge. Now 3 isn't enough?

Aren't we talking 2025?

One major game a quarter seems appropriate. Putting them all on the platform in Q4 seems dumb. Probably does need more polish but also the financial side makes sense.

That does make sense however in this particular case im guessing its not the main reason for this delay. They probably looked at the release schedule and said right which of these games needs delaying the most......

If say, indy gets a delay as well then you can bet your ass this doesn't get shifted back.

Theres loads coming from them in 25 what are you on about? Did you watch the summer presentation?

Sure did, and saw a lot of "2025" but little to no release dates. The exact reason I think Avowed is getting moved to early 2025, to fill a huge hole in their lineup.

Obsidian hasn't done much for me since New Vegas so my expectations are low. I pledged to their first pillars Kickstarter and got pretty bored with it quickly.

Can't wait for the meltdowns when Indiana Jones inevitably gets delayed too.

Ha yeah, to keep working on the PS5 port so all versions drop at once in order to make the most $ back possible since lets face it, no one will actually buy the Xbox/PC version.

POE, The Stick of Truth, Grounded and Pentiment, i've found are all excellent (all down to taste though obviously)

I didn't play the outer worlds so cant comment on that one.

I've liked everything they've done that i've so they get the benefit of the doubt from me. Although cant say this has set my world on fire from what we've seen, we'll see i guess.

I'm one of the few people who really liked The Outer Worlds, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this. But it would be nice if for once Xbox delivered something when they said they would. I was getting fed up with the whole it'll be better next year, just wait. Since my X1X days. Either stop over promising or manage your studios to the point where by you actually know when its going to be ready - in short show more professionalism. It also feels like they've been showing us the same games coming for years.

I loved Outer Worlds. Didn’t care for Grounded, but I’ve greatly enjoyed everything else from Obsidian lately. Have high hopes for Avowed, it’s looked good.

Its actually one of the reasons I picked up an XSX again. It looks great with Auto HDR too. Its got a unique charm to it. Whilst I'm looking forward to Avowed, its actually Outer Worlds 2 which I'll be really excited for.

I didn't understand what you meant by this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that Avowed will not be "officially" delayed into 2025 if Indiana Jones gets delayed to 2025 for whatever reason?
The reason they gave was that the end of the year was stacked so they are delaying to give it some breathing room, my coment was that i bet they don't move it back if space becomes available ie if Indy gets delayed because i thought their reason was bullshit.

However that was before they put a date on it so my thoughts have changed. Theres so little working time between November and feb then theres not a lot they can do in a short space of time maybe they are telling the truth.

They still wont bring it forward if a window becomes available i think though.

Make sense? im knackered and my writing & comprehension isn't the best right now.

STALKER 2 is releasing in November on GamePass, Avowed's previous projected release date.
More breathing room to play stalker 2 🤷🏾‍♂️. By the time avowed releases I’ll probably still be playing stalker 2 anyway. Plenty of other games to play in the meantime from now till then.

No worries.

I, too, think their reason is bullshit. They are not delaying it because "Game Pass is crowded." I think the game just needs more work, as has been evident in multiple showings.

Usually, 3-4 months is enough for polishing and bug fixing, so that is enough time. Most games are delayed 3-4 months if they indeed want to polish it up a bit. Helldivers 2 is a very recent example that got delayed 3-4 months for the same reason.

To your comment, yeah, I don't think they will move it back if Indiana Jones get delayed (which I'm 80% confident will be delayed as well). And if both gets delayed to 2025, they will not launch both of them in the 1st quarter again, so one of these 2 will again be delayed to Q2 at least.

Usually id agree there but its only 3 months and with all the holidays in between doesn't give them much time at all.

Hopefully thats a good sign and MS are finally learning not to push shit out of the door. (who am i kidding).

“A busy period for Game Pass”

Can someone explain this? It seems like a bizarre rationale. You don’t buy your games on Game Pass, so how can it be “busy”? It’s a subscription service. People subscribe and play whatever game whenever they want. Is there some sort of internal “failure” if your subscription service game isn’t immediately played by millions of people?
You really need to have someone tell you that GP growth is driven by new subscribers and not losing subscribers. People are more likely to subscribe when there is a new game they want to play and less likely to cancel when a new one drops.

It sucks that things have to be delayed for the benefit of Game Pass and not for all consumers of the console. They definitely aren't trying to "sale" software anymore.
