Avowed officially delayed to February 18, 2025

Fair, I just think Obsidian has a decent track record. It will most likely have mediocre combat, like the Outer Worlds did, but really good RPG elements to make up for it. I don't think it was delayed because its in a bad state. Could be wrong, obv.. I'm not too interested in the game at this point
I hope this game comes out in a good enough shape for those who are interested in it.

The art style change lost me big time and I find the current visual direction to be very unappealing.

Releasing a week after kingdom come deliverance 2 is certainly a choice.

First person medieval/medievalish sword fighting games. Kcd 2 apparently takes 80-100 hours to beat.

I know which one I want, and I think people are going to be surprised at how popular it is.... These first sold 6 million by last February and that's before all the promotions for the upcoming one.

Bad decision.

I don't think this matters at all. It's not GTA. People will buy and prioritize different things. I doubt any major publisher would look at KCD2 and decide to move their game to avoid cannibalization of sales. Just doesn't seem to me it nearly rises to that level. And Avowed and KCD will both sell over a long period of time, with free updates and DLC and such, I'm sure.

The genres overlap, I think you underestimate the target audiences for these games, and how much they overlap.

No they didn't, ac was going to release in November, they literally just changed it right behind kcd 2,look it up, November is still on the Wikipedia lol
August 2nd

August 15th

You're right I fucked up I meant avowed, ac is obviously a bit different audience.

Terrible choice for avowed though, kcd is going to fucking smoke it

A "big rpg" that they already stated is roughly the same length as The Outer Worlds? 🤣

And Indy isn't coming out this year, no one will convince me otherwise. Five months left in the year, still listed as TBA, and the only gameplay we've seen has been the same 5 minutes of footage shown twice sandwiched between pre-rendered cutscenes. If it comes out this year it will be a Redfall level mess.

TBA? The release date on gamepass is the 9.12.24. Is everyone blind to this?

So this game is now releasing on the same month as Monster Hunter Wilds and Yakuza Pirates in Hawaii, maybe other stuff that gets announced at TGS or the Game Awards too.
It looks very likely now that AC Shadows is also getting delayed.

Would be funny AF if that also joins February 2025. Though I think AC Shadows, if delayed, will be delayed for a longer period.

I don't think Shadows gets delayed, they're just avoiding previews for fear of the expected backlash on twitter. Kinda unjust if you ask me, but it is what it is.

Possible. But I think previews are part of the entire marketing cycle. It'd be tough to entirely skip the "previews" part and expect great sales.

I think there's something bigger going on. Let's see how it all pans out.

Agreed. I think gamers have become even more finicky with time, and it sometimes spills over.

His comment was written almost 3 weeks before Microsoft announced the release date (Aug 3rd).

2025 is shaping up to be a very intense one, release-wise.

And honestly it's not wise to delay when you can release in a relatively uncrowded period of the year.

I think it's definitely gonna be delayed, you'd normally hear things about the game going gold etc when it's two months away from release.

I agree that the gaming discourse around this game (and a TON of others) is very unfair and even hypocritical in a lot of places. But getting pulled from both press previews AND TGS at the same time is a flag that development isn't going smoothly for one reason or another.

Makes me think that maybe they were better off releasing this year.

That delay reason looks increasingly flimsy imo.

Seems like moving Avowed out was more about spacing game pass releases out rather than what is going on with third party releases. Though I think the real reason is the game was coming in hot and needed more time to be worked on.

Yeah the relief to backlogs comment didn't land with me at all lol. KCD is big imo and then there's this and I really want to play Atomfall too. But not everybody will be the same. KCD 2 gives me the same vibes Witcher 2 did when it came out. It could be massively more popular than the first one at release.

Will be a mid game IMO. Combat looks boring, graphics too bubbly and colourful. I'm going to assuming you can turn off/reduce HUD but every clip you see has so much numbers and icons on screen too

I think Avowed's biggest competition was going to be Dragon Age, and that is why it was delayed out. Dragon Age and Avowed look very similar and would be direct competitors to each other.

AC Shadows may helped it get pushed out some, but I really think Dragon Age is the main reason.

The next months will be so packed for me....its not even funny anymore. PlanetCoaster2, Stalker, MSFS24, Indy, Avowed, KCD2. Currently I want to support them all on release (if there are no big fuckups).

I really worry for this game's sales numbers. I'd consider buying anything made by Obsidian, but in such a crowded window and given the art style change which doesn't appeal to me, it's looking more like a "sub to GP for a couple weeks" game to me and I wonder if that won't be the case for a lot of players.

If the game doesn't sell well, and doesn't create any long term gamepass subscriber boost, why would MS send significant budget their way for Outer Worlds 2 or anything else?

I liked the combat in Outerworlds. It looks bad in this game though and FP melee is just always kind of horrible to me. Maybe going all magic would make it better overall though that's what I did for Skyrim.

You know what would be wild, if they pull up the release for this to January.

Feb is starting to get packed with 3 big releases within the span of a single week.

I like Obsidian's writing but a new RGG game will always take my preference if they're releasing in the same week.

This generation of Xbox is one of subterfuge and Kamala Harris like tomfoolery and hootenanny.

Sometimes Microsoft even forgets their HW exists.

I was mildly interested so hopefully the delay is for the better.

So RGG, Monster Hunter, Stalker 2?, AC Shadows and Kingdom Come 2 all in February.

If I was MS I would move it to March or April.

If, as they say, the game is feature complete and they're just giving it extra breathing room "for the backlog", pulling it early would be better IMO. Cause I expect a few more things to get shuffled around before this year is over.

Sure, they could move it to early Jan, but that's generally a pretty weak month overall for purchases after all the Christmas and New Years spending.
