Avowed officially delayed to February 18, 2025

I totally agree but that's not what you initially posted. They only gave a 2024 date at the start of this year, then they have given us an actual date of Feb 18th today. I don't see the problem with that.

Yes MS do announce games too early if that's what you wanted to say initially but all publishers are guilty of that. Metroid 4 ring any bells?
I did say that MS announce release dates too early, and they confirmed it would be released in 2024 during their show, so I’m not wrong regardless of the period of delay. It just causes unnecessary disappointment. This is on the back of the Starfield delay as well.

I mean, at this point, who would be surprised if Avowed was delayed again? It most likely won’t, but that‘s the uncertainty that MS have built.

It's rare for a company to actually confirm a strategic delay, as opposed to needing the time. Because it sucks for those who are really anticipating the game.

I notice that Wow xpac/ Diablo xpac and Starfield xpac always get touted as MS content. Which is true, but none of them are on GP. So as someone who can't stand CoD, Avowed and Indiana were the main GP titles I was interested in this year. So another year of the sub will pass by without value (for me). So much for stacking subs.
Indy is this year. This is a smart move for Microsoft, and I’m looking forward to Avowed. No need to bury it.

Usually just Nintendo does that.
Larian did it for Baldur's Gate 3 and admitted it was because of Starfield which in hindisight is funny as hell. They had no reason to worry at all.

If it does release this year it will be the very end of the year, and frankly we'll see if it does.

Doesn't alter the fact I will have held GP for an entire year before getting any value out of it. I mean D4 would have been useful but I bought it at release, like a lot of other people. HB2 is artistic navel gazing at best.

This is the 2024 list.

Since I bought GP on the promise of their big titles, its pretty clear 2024 is a huge miss in that department. Last year had more titles but they all were quality misses. So we are back to the story of Gamepass, "Next Year". Which is fine except I will have held GP for little value in the meantime, which is my point. People who love indies or see value in some of the decent 3rd party titles might see it differently. Moving forward with the price rises and fewer options to get GP cheap, I doubt they can keep doing it and retain subscribers. They better hope their upcoming titles land well.

Omg so many xbox quality games to play... how can Avowed compete.
To be fair its not been the greatest year all round for the "Big 3". I was hoping for the switch 2 this holiday but that's a bust obviously.

MS have had an awful year again upto this point, but look better in the run up to Christmas but they bought most of the shit they will be putting out, so i find that hard to count as a win for them. Sony have had a decent (ish) first half of the year but looking like they are going to crap out with Corcord and not much else for the foreseeable. I've stopped buying Nintendo now until I know what the Switch 2 BC will look like.

They have Astro Bot, Until Dawn and Lego Horizon Adventures. Maybe not the strongest H2 for Sony, but Astro Bot looks like GOTY material, while the other two still seem to be good games on their own. And H1 was really great with Helldivers 2, Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade back to back.
Plus MLB The Show 24, but that just feels like including COD on the Xbox side, lol.

2025 line up, including avowed are all day one plays/buys for me (assuming they get a physical release), can not wait for fable, avowed, south of midnight and doom the dark ages!

I do worry for Towerborne though, I think it might get completely missed as there is an insane amount of games coming out at the end of the year.

I've been seeing this happen for years but never thought to ask - what are the consequences of a delay?
Ppl who are subscribed to gamepass gotta fork out cash for longer time, simple as that, game budget gets stretched too coz dev studio works more, and obviously since its delay- crunch time- game will need to sell more copes to not bomb/reach profitable status :)
From our- customers- perspective its still better option than playing rushed product obviously, usually those last 6 months are most crucial in ironing out bugs/improving performance.

Yes. You can pre-order it right now. Sony have been pretty clear on their recent policy of not announcing new games until they are close to release. And I’m all for it.
Huh?

All of their first party games released this generation were literally announced years in advanced. Ex: Spiderman2, ratchet, god of war 2, horizon, grand turismo, HD2. Literally THE only one that wasn’t is Astrobot. Maybe this is will be a thing. But you can’t base it off of ONE game.

Out of everything announced Avowed looked the closest to release.
It did not. Everything besides Gears of War E-Day looked closer to release. Go look at the conversations in Avowed, the lip sync. It needed this delay, probably longer.

Well, from a publisher perspective this can mean extending the budget as you need to pay the devs for additional months they've spent working on the game, unless the game is ready and is just waiting for release (MS implies Avowed will be the second case, but seeing the game on past gameplays I have some doubts). This also results in delaying all of the marketing related stuff as usually these things are coordinated efforts. Some of them may have some costs involved as they need to update promo materials to reflect the new date and renegotiate deals so they would be shown later than originally planned, etc
