Anyone in the north end of the city being hit by this storm? TTC feed has been lighting up with people complaining about buses skidding about on icy roads and 'blizzard' conditions. Howling wind down near the lake on the west end for me, but otherwise, pretty nice.

It's really windy, especially on the 401.

It's windy as hell here, I am scared. Hold me.

Okay, so Im with rogers, I have an extreme account which is 120GB. Somehow over the course of the month, Im 75GB over. I dont understand how this happened as Im barely at home, dont stream, play games online a lot, and only watch YouTube at home occasionally. So this is pretty clearly my siblings' fault!

So Ive been thinking that I should switch to teksavvy, but I dont know how simple this process is as Ive got internet, phone and tv under one package with rogers I think. Or at least what my dad says. So my question is, how simple is this transfer? Is it an all or nothing thing, I have to get their cable package too? I think I want the one thats $52 or try the unlimited.

I dont know what Im doing. I am stupid, ISPs, how do they work?!?
1. Get rid of your landline and use cellphones
2. Cancel your cable and get an OTA antenna and Netflix
3. Get rid of by your internet and go with Teksavvy. Tel offers landlines as well iirc.
4. You really don't need unlimited unless you're really into Japanese porn.

Yeah, Teksavvy has landlines.

This is basically us as well. Two cell phones now, which we use more for data than any phone calls, Teksavvy high end 300gb cap cable and Netflix. We're under no contracts and what we pay is very reasonable. If you can haggle with Rogers retention for a better deal and don't care about giving them your money, then good on you though.

Hey Toronto-GAF! Can anybody recommend me a good (reasonably priced) restaurant in the Queens Park / ROM area? The Mrs. and I are taking a trip to see the ROM and spend the night in the big city, but we don't want to spend an arm and a leg! We were thinking of going to the overdraught (on Front I think?), but only because we've been there before and know they've got good beer. Halp!

Like, from a window? Was it suspended from a gradually-fraying rope? Did someone throw it directly up into the air above your head?

It was on the side walk, the wind pushed it into me and it toppled. It almost knocked me over.

Looking at their internet packages on the site makes no sense. They have the cable 28 pack (28down, 1 up) for $46.95 and then the pro 16 (16down, 1up) for $49.99. Am I missing something here? Both 300gb cap.

Yeah, I don't get it either. It has a higher upload speed then the 18mbps tier, but the 28mbps tier has that faster upload speed with it so yeah, it's completely pointless.

Look around at places in Yorkville. Good variety of restaurants at a wide variety of prices. Winterlicious is running until February 7th, which can get you a really good deal at an otherwise insanely expensive restaurant (Sassafraz, for instance).

Best Buy closing stores across Canada

http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/story/2013/01/31/business-best-buy-closure.html

Any word on this happening in Toronto locations? Only Best Buy I visit is the one at Yonge and Dundas, and not regularly. Seems a bit silly to have a Best Buy and Futureshop, basically, right next to each other.

That's too bad. Best Buy > Future Shop IMO. The staff at Future Shop are annoying as hell to the point that it's pretty transparent what they make commission on. I'm aware that's a corporate issue and not the Sales Associate's fault.

The windows at the Sherbrooke outlet are covered in paper and a sign there announces the closure of that location.

Employees arrived for their shift this morning and were met by security guards and closed doors. They did not receive advance notice of a closure.

The Best Buy Canada Ltd. Execs who made this decision should be hung. What a shitty, ignorant thing to do to people making shit money to start with.

I have no true preference, although I agree with the sentiment that Futureshop feels like they're trying to pitch a sale to you every time you enter the store. Although the Futureshop trade in deals have been very good to me since EBgames stopped offering anything decent and Blockbuster closed down.

Really shitty to continually see how many corporations just don't give a shit about decency when it comes to layoffs.

edit: Made a new thread for this issue, for those that didn't see.

My view is a bit skewed. We have a Futureshop across the street from work and I go in there at least 3-4 times a week so the staff is used to me and stopped giving out those pitches.

They realize I just look around to waste time and when I want to buy something I just do it.

I've never really liked Best Buy though.

Different Pay structures. Futureshop offers comissions, and Bestbuy offers a higher wage but no comissions.

Of course. Although at the downtown Futureshop, most people seem to leave me alone unless I wander into the television section. Futureshop near the Junction, people will follow me around the video game aisles, never giving me a moments peace.

Thanks! We're going to miss Winterlicious, but I'll definitely check out the Yorkville area.

They put Futureshops and Best Buys so close together to prevent competing stores from getting good locations.........and I'd say it was successful

What type of food do you like/are you looking for?

I am pretty sure I am on the Cable 18 plan, so getting these extra boosted speeds is great for just paying around $40ish a month. I've been with them for years and their customer service has always been great (even if there have been hiccups on the Rogers end.. ). Unfortunately, I've been running into router troubles lately (I think).
I am also a Wind customer. Nothing but the reasonably best for reasonably cheap for me! XD
I hate rogers, pages take too damned long to load and its never consistent.

It always tends to range from 20MB one day to 6MB the next to 15MB then back up to 20MB before it repeats.

Real winter is here!

Shoot me, this weather sucks. *brr*

Hmmm, that is going to take some convincing with my mom. She hates cell phones and she needs her dramas. : |

Tell her to join the 21st century.
Dramas you can 'find' on the net or purchase on DVD or use the trick to watch it on Hulu or get Netflix.

My mom is around 60 now and stubborn as hell now I couldn't even tear her apart from her cell and internet. Though I do have to tell her she can stream wheel of fortune legit and we don't need an OTA antenna at all.

I would love OTA but I live on the ground floor of an apartment. I'm face high park too so if I moved up even one floor I'm sure that I could get something. :/
