Toronto-Age |OT3| Going Off the Rails on a Gravy Train

When I worked at 299 queen I met the producer of SC and was in a few commercials for it. She told me some stories that would give you nightmares or scare you from setting foot in/touching anything in that booth. If you ever looked at the floor you'd notice a drain there, it's there for a reason.

I remember going to a CityTV/MuchMusic-heavy staff party there once, they compiled the year's worth of utterly un-airable clips collected at Speakers' Corner for the Xmas party annually.

Crazy how many people thought it was novel to try and perform a complete blowjob inside the 60 second mark.

We have all those streaming porn sites for that stuff now.

<_<

>_>

Not that I'm an expert on that or anything...

Tecmo koei Canada closing? This was you before, alpha?
Yes. You may see the Financial Post talking to a "Mr. Li", former employee of Tecmo Koei Canada.

Anyone affected by that here? Tough news.
No. I was pretty much the only poster here (one of them that worked there with me before has an account but rarely post, ever). This closing hits around 10-15 people, but the major cut that I was in two years ago was where most of the cuts happened.

Honestly, I'm surprised they lasted this long doing support/localization work after moving to social/mobile.

Oh, so I made a post in the Boardgame thread and got no reply: Just this weekend I did the boardgamejam in Toronto. It's somewhat unbalanced as a game, but I'm probably going to tweak it and such. Is there any interest for me to bring out a small slice of it for our next meetup if people want to try it out?

“Be prepared for the grind,” Mr. Li said in our interview. “Game development is probably one of the lower paying fields for any specific role, but many do it and love it because they truly love games and what it means to them.”?

alpha still part of the grind :(

Well, if you are still in touch with any of those peeps, give em my regards and a hearty good luck.

Aside from the crummy amateur porn, that would be a really, really hilarious thing to watch.

That's odd.. I saw those coats around a lot two years ago but not really this year. I don't hang out around Yonge and Dundas though so who knows...

I've worn the same black jacket for the last 12 years. We have been through a lot together and seen the world. haha

(I just checked the tag and apparently it was from the GAP but I got it for free when someone didn't want it anymore)

I know a lot of people who are just really cold all the time when I think the temperature is fine, people who wear their winter coat indoors while I'm fine in a t-shirt *shrug*

Yeah this city kind of has a "Temperature below 15 degrees? Time to put on my stylish winter coat!" going on

I bought a Canada Goose last "winter". There have been a few occasions when I was glad I bought it (walking home late from bars a few times, shovelling snow at my parents a couple times, I was at a friends property up north for a few days), but overall for an average male, born in Canada, this coat is too damn warm. I have worn my pea coat far more than my Goose. It freaks me out when I see people on the subway with the coat completely zipped up and the hood on, as I would be drenched in sweat. Even on cold days, I never wear more than a t-shirt under it. I don't regret buying the coat since it is high quality, is warm should I need it, and IIRC the coats (but not gloves, etc) are manufactured in Canada. The fact that the coats are made in Canada is a huge selling feature. The companies business practices seem to be ethical for the most part, and I like that they price seems to be pretty firm (regardless of where it is purchased). Beyond that, try and find a decent coat, at the same or higher quality, for less money. In the past I had a North Face parka and it was no where near the CG quality, and on top of that they fur looks like complete shit.

I'm sure, as usual, the above will be a controversial opinion here.

iPhone 4s and generic non-descript jacket, thank you very much.

Toronto Now the Fourth Largest City in North America

With the number of under-construction residential and commercial developments across the city coming in at record highs, it should come as no surprise that Toronto has become one of the most desirable places to live, work and play on the continent. As more residents and businesses move to Canada’s financial capital, census figures are beginning to reflect the dramatic changes in our city’s population, brought on by the ongoing development boom. The City of Toronto's annual population growth rate has increased steadily for the last 10 years and is now growing at an annual rate of about 38,000 people.

The City of Toronto's latest Economic Dashboard report - presented at today's meeting of the Economic Development Committee - states that Toronto has overtaken Chicago in population and is now the fourth largest city in North America. The City of Chicago's population was most recently estimated at 2,707,120 while the City of Toronto's total population is now estimated at 2,791,140 – supplanting Chicago’s position of fourth-largest city while placing Toronto behind urban heavyweights Mexico City, New York City and Los Angeles. "These population figures are another sign confirming Toronto's steady growth," said Mayor Rob Ford. "Toronto is a desirable location for people to live and work. We are attracting people from across North America and other parts of the world."

Last month, City Council endorsed a new economic growth plan, called Collaborating for Competitiveness - A Strategic Plan to Accelerate Economic Growth and Job Creation in Toronto. The plan sets targets for improving the quality of jobs in Toronto and commits to harmonizing the policies/activities of the City of Toronto and its agencies to help create a more attractive climate for business and investment. As our population swells towards the 3 million mark, these types of economic growth and infrastructure plans are a crucial element in maintaining Toronto’s position among the frontrunners of North America’s greatest cities.

Aside from your opinion on TNF (I preferred my North Face over all the Canada Goose coats I tried on), I hear ya: it's not cold enough in Toronto, most of the time, for a 650-grade coat. We only need it a few days of the year, otherwise a light sport or peacoat will do just fine.

Whoa, we agree on something...mind blown.

Depends where you live in Toronto, up north gets a lot colder/windier at times. Also, a lot of older people or people sensitive to cold due to health need those jackets.

Thanks, amalgamation.

Toronto is roughly the same size in land area as Chicago after amalgamation so it's not as simple as that.
The truth is Chicago has lost about a million people in the same time that Toronto gained a million. The two cities are moving in exact opposite directions.

It was less of a serious comment on the regions and more of a snarky response. Calm yourself, added_time. :p

A lot of people do only care about population, and disregard land area, density, or anything else. It's just a dick waving contest to say who's bigger than who and amalgamation helped quite a bit with that. Chicago, even given their struggles, is the only rust belt city in the US to not totally fall apart. Chicagoland (much larger than the GTA, or even the Golden Horseshoe entirely) is still growing as well, but at a much slower rate than it saw the decade prior. Nothing compared to the GTA's growth rate, of course. Or in the US, Houston's, which will undoubtedly overtake Chicago in the coming decade. So yes, Chicago is definitely on the decline from where it was, and it's a much less desirable city to live in than Toronto.

I didn't seem calm?

Anyways, amalgamation is funny from my perspective growing up in Scarborough. It already felt like I lived in Toronto since I would take the TTC every day.
I always felt like places that didn't have the TTC (Mississauga etc) would feel more removed from the city simply because you had to take 2 different city public transportation systems if you wanted to go downtown.

Parts of Etobicoke, especially along the Mississauga border sort of blur together for me and feel very little like the rest of Toronto. On the other hand, I always felt Scarborough merged pretty seamlessly with the city.

Here's hoping we can expand the subway to Hurontario (and that Mississauga gets that LRT), so Mississauga can feel like part of Toronto too.

Anyone in here interested in my barely touched Kinect (with box/everything) along with 3 games (Dance Central, Kinect Adventures, Child of Eden)?

Figure somewhere around $80 is fair; PM me if interested!

To commemorate Toronto overtaking Chicago as the fourth largest city in North America, let's go back in time to before the city starting booming into the powerhouse it is today:

Growing up in Mississauga from the age of 15 onwards I can tell you we almost NEVER went to Toronto or downtown for anything. Completely and totally disconnected from it.

Wow, that's nuts. Everyone I know from Scarborough was always heading downtown for shopping, concerts etc.. that is crazy to think about because the distance is almost equal so I guess it is the TTC factor.

Sounds like the opposite of southern York Region. Don't necessarily always go downtown but definitely make frequent trips to at least North York. Yorkdale and Eaton Centre >>> Vaughan Mills.

Was just there this past weekend, will probably go back in a couple of weeks. Fresh is so good ahhh. As is Vegetarian Haven ~

I can't stand Vegetarian Haven. Their menu has a sidenote that says "we don't use garlic or onions because we want the taste of the vegetables to shine through" or some shit.

That's like culinary blasphemy. If I wanted to eat vegetables that tasted exactly like vegetables I'd eat raw vegetables at home while I cried in my tub.

Ugh, you've already cut out meat flavours and dairy flavours and now you want to cut out the aromatics too? Why don't you just eat dirt? Next you'll tell me salt ruins the integrity of veganism and peppercorns feel pain.

This broth is made from water and I threw some roughly chopped carrots in it. I call it Luscious Carrot Desire. Olive oil? No, what's that?

Haha does it actually say that? Kind of silly. My dumpling bowl thing was okay and the fake shrimp was good.

Also a friend got that ice cream x slice of pie milkshake that and that was really good as well. No garlic though (._. )

But I think that shrimp made it the best. Fresh was good, Bahn Mi Boys was good, Sansotei was good. IT ALL GOOD.
