Total Biscuit 'gushes about DOOM (4)'s campaign for 20 minutes'

There's something nice about people actually having to read and watch content like this instead of everything descending into war over numbers.

What's funny about this game is its pretty clear that Bethesda thought they had a cluncker on their hands because it doesn't tick any of the modern FPS tickboxes.

Maybe with the original direction they had for the game, but IMO it was pretty obvious that going fully modern console FPS wouldn't have gone over well with the Doom fanbase at all.

And honestly the game is still a (admittedly well-done) mix of old and new school design. I think it's obvious they looked a lot at similar FPS reboots like Wolfenstein and Shadow Warrior for inspiration.

Doom is simple

Here is you gun.
There is your enemy.
Kill.

Alot of games in alot of genres could learn from this approach.

I'm starting to think Doom's marketing campaign was brilliant. No overhype; no undue expectations.

Now everyone's being blown away by word of mouth alone, and that's the best (and cheapest!) kind of publicity.

The new Doom is basically the true Doom 3. That's the highest praise I can think of for it, the game is more than I ever dared dream it would be. Absolute perfection, the best FPS I've played in years.

Yeah, I pretty much second this. I've been absolutely glued to it, the point where it's taking me away from Uncharted.

It hits all the right notes, gameplay atmosphere and story, and it's just very tight and focused experience that achieves exactly what it sets out to do. In that regard I think it's an even stronger title than even Wolf: TNO, and that's high praise considering that I absolutely love that game.

the first time someone has ever used Brad as an example of someone playing a video game well

but yeah I'm really glad they are into it. He is a big Doom fan and was positive on the game even when I felt like there was no reason to be.

Him dying in the intro is the best

Really is showing we don't need reviews.

I dunno....the hype cycle on places like gaf and reddit exists pretty much outside of the review spectrum and is often just as misleading. the gaf 1 year later backlash is a real phenomenon that I've observed over the years and I don't trust the hype from places like this any more than I do from IGN or Gamespot.

Looks like im going to have to pick this up, I did not expect this kind of reception for its SP.

I hope the AMD issues on PC are worked out soon. :\

Not only are the gameplay and soundtrack amazing, but the game has an incredibly charming sense of humor about itself, too. It's kind of a hard game not to like.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure *this* has sold me on it.

Shame it's $80US here :/

Driveclub took this attitude to driving games.

No open world

I'm really glad TB seems to love the game so much, I honestly love the game too much.

The one thing I don't like about DOOM 4, is that it is almost too good.

Man everyone was saying it was gonna suck lol. I need some money bad now so I can go pick it up. Still need to playthrough Wolfinstein dlc.

I am now interested in playing this. It's a stupid decision to make the multiplayer like Halo/Call of Duty. Those games ALREADY exist. Make a DOOM game.

I'm about halfway through the first Hell level and my god this game is SO fucking good. And it just keeps getting better. The fights are getting so intense.
