Ubisoft issues totally convincing response to Assassin's Creed Unity's resolution

That isn't what an interesting NPC is.

That is a person in the world who has a house. They wake up and do their job. You can talk to them, you can sit down next to them during dinner at the pub.

When You kill them, they are dead and gone from the world. You can visit their old house and it is empty. They no longer go to the pub for a drink.

2000 people standing around who don't exist when you look the other way is not interesting to me. I would suggest it is a complete waste of processing power and just makes a lifeless and dead world.
So basically you want elder scrolls? We can't kill npcs in the series. But that doesn't mean that the AI routines aren't more interesting in this iteration.

Sometimes it really does seem like Eden is Yves's secret account!
On a side note, I prefer EA over Ubisoft. Dragon Age Inquisition and whatever overpriced DLC they announce will be getting my money this year. Ubisoft can go fuck themselves since they prefer Microsoft's money instead of money.

That's a strange statement to make since EA have far more co-marketing deals with Microsoft than Ubisoft do. Battlefield 4, FIFA, Madden, the timed exclusivity with Titanfall and Garden Warfare as well as EA Access.

Ubisoft only have Unity and The Division with Microsoft. Far Cry 4 and Watch Dogs are both with Sony.

Ubisoft threads are the best thing to happen to me in my entire life.

Ubisoft the company just ... I don't even know what to say anymore. I kind of regret buying Watch Dogs, but damnit I love Far Cry and I will probably get 4.

I'm done with AC though. Got stale. This adds to bullshit mountain.

I assume that like other entries you will get a warning saying you shouldn't kill npcs.

Not 100% sure, but I think I remember them saying they got rid of the synchronizations and failing missions. Like, you can royally fuck up a mission and it will still continue, I am not sure if that includes killing NPC's, but it might.

Someone needs to make a gif of an unboxing vid of PS4 AC Unity and have 180p with wings fly out of the box and out of the frame never to be seen a again. =(

I think that's referring to mission objectives. Can't imagine that we will be allowed going on civilian murdering sprees.

Well to bring the topic back to Unity, the AC series has fortunately not been falsely advertised or represented. The series is very consistent when it comes to playing like the trailers and demos, they've also maintained the visuals of the demos too.

I don't take issue with that I'm just saying what you're seeing in 1080P is the coop trailer feature doesn't look like the console version to me. Why would they show a poor version of the game when they can use the best that's out there? Even Rockstar did it with its original trailers of GTAV.

That's sound thinking, however, the game doesn't look poor. They're seem to be very proud of the visuals.

So when do we get to see Sony's snarky prescription glasses Ad about "seeing something fishy with Assassin's Creed"?

Please somebody do the honors

The way I see it, either 900p was their target after they began realizing the limitations of the consoles and they worked harder to get the Xbox One to that benchmark than the PS4, or they realized the Xbox One probably wasn't going to run well if they went above 900p and because of reasons they decided to make that the benchmark.

Because the PS4 is more powerful, I can't help but feel like the PS4 is capable of running AC:U at a higher resolution - especially if the Xbox One is capable of 900p. Quite frankly, I may be entirely wrong with my assumptions. The biggest problem is that Ubisoft brought it up, and even worse said the reason for parity was to prevent discussion. That is throwing fuel on the fire.

And this response from Ubisoft? #parityparody

Yeah I agree it looks good, just like the Division looks good. (Remember Watch Dogs). But it's another matter seeing it run live on console.
I guess we will find out soon.

What other games does Ubisoft and MS have marketing deals for? The Division?
If so, I expect that game to be 900p on the PS4 as well.

Hell, I expect most 3rd party games that are co-marketed with MS to be sub 1080p on the PS4.

It seems MS gave up trying to out muscle the PS4 and instead will use their clout and marketing dollars to drag the PS4 down to the XB1's level.

I actually won't worry about that for AC, the game is probably near gold, a downgrade is not likely to happen and historically AC is one of the rare franchises that always deliver what was promised in previews and trailers, at least graphics-wise.

Watch Dogs had a different team(s) and was cross gen. Unity is next gen only, we've seen how that benefits a game's visuals. If this game was cross gen I would've fully expected a downgrade.

This is what doesn't make sense to me. Since when is AC cinematic compared to Uncharted? AC is about exploring an open world. Uncharted is about a linear adventure with huge set pieces mixed in with cutscenes.

Yet Uncharted is aiming for 60fps, because the ND states they can't go back to 30.

Yet Ubisoft insists on that cinematic experience, when Uncharted is far more cinematic. There is no comparison at all.

Does Ubisoft really take me for a fool? Why can't they just say the wanted to push graphic fidelity over framerate?

What is up with this cinematic nonsense? I feel like they treat me like I'm an idiot who didn't goto school.

ND is also using a derivative of their old graphics engine for their next-gen games. If they want to push more tech.. something is bound to give..

I wouldn't hold my breath on 60FPS 1080p games from ND with next-gen features like tessellation, volume lighting, fluid dynamics, physically based shading, AA, and HDAO.

I believe Uncharted 4 will set a new standard for console games. We'll see.

If you came to me a week ago and told me that all this would be happening I probably wouldn't have believed you. Damn. They have tainted the message so close to release for me. I think I will buy the game and let it sit for 2 weeks or so and hope for a 1080p patch.
Why buy it then if you're going to wait anyway?

Yeah. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for all their PS4 games to be 1080p60, but lets be realistic here. In ~2 years there will be very few 60 fps games outside of sports. All devs like to push the limits*, and they're going to keep doing so.

*I realized the irony of posting that ITT immediately after submitting my post XD

Icing on the cake would be having someone from Ubi say something along the lines of "Do you have any idea how many CPUs it takes to animate the female body?"

First the whole lying about "making girl characters are hard!" debacle, and now this? Both situations could have been EFFORTLESSLY avoided, but their PR team said exactly what was necessary to rile everyone up.

Either Ubi's marketing division has god-like job security, or the applicant pool is just a deluge of imbeciles.

If anyone is going to pull it off it will be them. ND has the privilege of not having 15 games going on at once, together with only having to focus on one piece of hardware. Uncharted is their bread and butter so I would guess it's all hands on deck when it comes to pushing the limits on what they can make the PS4 do.

They also have that alien tech they used in TLOU

I feel like at this point a "Hey fuck you gamers we know best" response is what they should've said, but they kinda already have said that.

Maybe I don't want thousands of people I can interact with
Can I sit there and have a conversation with each and everyone one of them? I mean come on, cut the fluff release the plague, kill off some of these space filling npc's and up that resolution

I mean, there's no possibility of miscommunication here. One of them has to be lying, right? And it's probably going to be the guy on damage control.

If the PS4 version of Unity gets to 1080p, I'll buy it. If it doesn't, I won't.

Ubisoft can offer as many excuses as they like but I don't think they'll help the game reach 1080p. Less press releases and more coding please.

I cannot wait for this game. I would definitely choose more AI and details over res or fps any day

It sounds like it's more for number of NPCs. Didn't sound like they mean complex AI like they have a ton of reactions and are really clever and stuff. If that were the case, I would think that's cool. But it sounds like they just poured in thousands of people just to be like "look at what we can do", beside their explanation that there were huge crowds back in the day.

Really get annoyed when there's too many characters on a screen at once. Felt like Dead Rising 3 went overboard with the zombie count. It just felt ridiculous sometimes and made me focus more on how lame the other aspects of the game felt like the map being such a pain to navigate.

I don't feel that all games should be 1080p to be next gen. I like having new stuff added like more complicated AI and stuff. This doesn't sound like that though.

Interesting. Because that's not what I want. Now what should Ubi do? You don't want that and I do. When I think of next gen. I don't think of just graphics and 1080p. I think of larger scale things that still haven't come true.. but having up to 5000 npc's you can interact with and are on screen at one time is getting closer to what I think next gen is all about.

I guess one of us can just choose not to buy the game if there's stuff we don't like about it.

Speaking of ignorance, CPU has no bearing on resolution. That's the reason the game is 30fps, which means they probably have a lot of GPU overhead so they can bump the res up on PS4 without even impacting framerate.

This was what I've been thinking during this whole thing - AI & FPS are CPU based, buy resolution & AA are GPU, is that correct?

I can smell the merde from Montreal over here in Brisbane.

I'm the same way. Don't build a game only for new gen consoles, and then expect me to believe that the more powerful one can't do any better than parity.

Lol. This. I'm not getting it, if it's not 1080. I'll rent it otherwise. Since their last ass game was 1080 so should this one. No excuses. Same with Division. Yes 1080 p brings clarity, and I want that.

“We’ve spent four years building the best game we could imagine. Why would we ever do anything to hold it back?”

This is the most obvious question. Basic, fundamental creative reality gets thrown out the window when it games to GAMERS.

Everything is a fucking plot to undermine the GAMER when it comes to developers. Everything is a plot to undermine the GAMER when it comes to journalism. Everything is a plot to undermine the GAMER when it comes to feminism and other human rights.

I'm beyond tired of people saying one thing, getting backlash from it and the response ends up being " nah ya'll just didn't hear me right " or some dumb shit like that.

You said what you said, deal with it. Just ... Yeah not like that

Let’s be clear up front: Ubisoft does not constrain its games. We would not limit a game’s resolution. And we would never do anything to intentionally diminish anything we’ve produced or developed.

are they really going to start out with this after Watch Dogs?
