Ubisoft launches live blog to address AC Unity issues, next update detailed

Insane how black flag ran like a beauty and this is a pile of dog shit. After 4 AC games on the PS3, all running with shit frame rate it was unbelievably refreshing to have that locked 30FPS at a crisp 1080p, then to have it all regress after one year is sad

I'm still hopeful they'll fix the FPS and pop in texture problems, then I'll buy it, sad we are stuck with 900p though

So was CoD the only AAA game that worked on release this year?
They already acknowledged game-breaking lag...

I won't buy a sub-30 fps 900p game on my PS4. It's 2014, my screen is 1080p and 1080p / 30 fps games are pretty standard now on PS4, buy some better devs.

If everybody can do it, you can do it too, Ubi.

There is a lag problem but I've put 7 hours into the MP so far and I'm having a good time, the SP has been great also

I can't believe I'm saying this but COD is the best AAA game this fall (that isn't a remaster)

It was in their best interest financially not to make it 1080p on the PS4

I wish Sony and Microsoft issued some sort of quality control mandate before allowing poorly optimised, borderline broken games on their platform.

I dont buy shit gae. If a game is 900p and hell of a fun, I buy it. If a game is 1080p@60fps and no fun, I won't buy it.

Better than Sunset Overdrive and SMASH Bro. U? Wow. I must check out CoD AW.

Its recognized as the damage limitation it is. They deserve no props for patching the game into a state it should have been in at launch. Thats not going "above and beyond", it's meeting the minimum threshold for what consumers expect in a game.
They want applause? Plaudits? How about dont release your game in beta state.
For real. There's no way they didn't know that these issues were in the game. QA finds these bugs, especially when there are so many of them. They were deferred to ship the game on time, with plans to patch them later. That's just how it works. They've known about these issues for months.

I just finished the prologue, i guess i will just stop playing until its fully fixed. The framerate on the PS4 version is extremely bad. It's not 30FPS by any definition, it certainly gives a bad name for 30 FPS games.

Sure being fun is the most important, but you're still supposed to make some efforts.

Sub 30 fps and 900p on a PS4 is a joke. The game even runs better on an inferior platform, so it must be possible.

And if you don't care about your own game, why should I care ?

How can you appreciate the art style when there are models and textures popping in literally everywhere at ANY POINT, inducing visual monstrosity as well as animation glitches ?

How can you appreciate the gameplay, when it's running at 20 fps most the time ?

How can you have fun with your friends, when half the people are crippled with that outrageous "connection fail" error ? (check the ubi forums)

It IS a terrible game, as it stands, on console, ps4 for instance. The only thing it has, is potential.

The ps4 version is absolute insanity, as it currently is.

I'm playing on PS4. I'm not trying to hide the technical issues - it's pretty bad from that standpoint. Ubisoft deserves shit for releasing a game in this state, but I just can't get behind the hyperbole of people calling this game garbage when the game itself is super fun.

Graphical glitches are definitely there if you look for them but I don't notice them if I'm just running around doing missions. Even if I do see an NPC jump up or a texture flicker, who cares? It doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the game, I spend most of the time on rooftops anyways where you don't see all of the NPC pop-in nearly as badly.

Framerate is consistently in the 20's but if you played Dark Souls/2, The Last of Us, many other games on console late last gen this is nothing new, it looks choppy but it's not unplayable (then again, there are people on GAF who will claim 30FPS is unplayable so go figure). It just again doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the game.

It has clear technical issues, and bad ones at that. Underneath that all is a fantastic game though - and I would encourage any AC fans out there to pick up this game because it truly is the best in years - I also don't blame people who can't deal with the technical issues though. Hopefully they can get a patch out quickly that will fix these issues, and once they do, I honestly couldn't see a reason to not recommend this game to anyone.

TLDR: The game is truly bad on performance, Ubisoft deserves shit, underneath all the technical issues though this game is fantastic.

TLOU was never this bad, the lowest it dipped was in the mid 20s and not in combat. unity is constantly hovering around 20 FPS. it feels like a playing a PC game on a shitty laptop.

I like the comments on the blog supporting Ubisoft and thanking them for being so proactive. However, Ubisoft should be earning condemnation for releasing a game in such a state. Ah well, so many people with rose tinted PlayStation Lifestyle glasses.

We have basically been trained to expect big filled games at launch and then applaud developers for fixing them post launch

Sad that they haven't even started work yet on any framerate fixes. By the time this is fixed, I'll be done with it.

I was just saying that it's hard to enjoy the game at all because of all the flaws it brought with it.

Good for you, I can not stop looking at them, since they are PERMANENT, it's pretty much a feature at this point so i don't expect any patch to improve that. Also you pretty much say that staying on rooftops avoiding them helps, proving how terrible that idea of having "thousands of (shit ass) NPC" was.

Framerate is consistently in the 20's but if you played Dark Souls/2, The Last of Us, many other games on console late last gen this is nothing new, it looks choppy but it's not unplayable (then again, there are people on GAF who will claim 30FPS is unplayable so go figure). Pretty sure I moved on to PC and PS4 precisely to avoid that kind of stuff. As to why I didn't get it for PC, for multiplayer. Little did I know that I would be part of half the players that can not play this crap online due to the fantastic intermittent "connection failed" error. I expected somewhat stable 30 fps, at 900p, with decent graphics. This is worse than Rogue at this point on every level. I can't tolerate graphics that flicker and glitch every 2 seconds. It does take away the enjoyment for me.

And dude, 30 FPS is sluggish but acceptable if it's stable. You can't possibly defend 20.

The best thing this game can be called, is "good", it's not fantastic. In any way. Gameplay is clunky, story is bland, for every evolution of the series we're losing stuff (coop but lose pvp, smoother movement but lose abilities etc..). It would be a good game without the technical flaws. But an okay game WITH the flaws it currently has is just utter garbage. You can't recommend that game to AC fans, fucking 70 euros, 60 dollars, i wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. They can sure as hell pick this up in a few months at 20. And it won't even be fixed entirely by then, since, as i said, the whole concept and design is wrong with that game, a thing that was obvious from the very first time they tested their game, and they decided to go with it anyway instead of scaling back the crowds, that not only provide shit framerate, but also horrendous visual glitches (that are intended so it's not technically glitches).

Fixing the mess they've already created is a decent start, but the real test is to stop doing this in the future altogether.

Man, I wish Schofield was the producer of every game. That dude has always been solid.

By the way he phrased that, he just performed better PR than their PR department has in relation to this game over the last few months.

Hopefully, they are able to straighten out the issues for fans and owners of the title.

Not a huge Battlefield fan and if this was not Visceral I might have skipped it... but they are one developer I will go the extra mile to support. They kick ass and I want them to succeed. (For purely selfish reasons of course...)

[EDIT: wtf, meant to post this in the new BF Hardline topic... I got confused by seeing Schofield's thing in here too]

It may be buggy, but damn, it's impressive.

Needs like 6 weeks of patches for total polish but I reckon it should have gotten mostly 9-10s without these technical hickups (including polishing gameplay missions etc) (if it doesn't take a turn for the worst after some progress).

Really impressive stuff...on a good pc, it can hold up (so far). Watch Dogs also was mighty good (with the unofficial mods that just unlocked its potential).

I'm glad it got slammed for the technical issues but I'm glad Ubisoft is big enough to keep on pushing graphics and gameplay. Maybe they'll give the next games more optimization time.
But I got to give Ubisoft some love after all that hate on impressions.

I can understand people not being as forgiving when their $60 doesn't run satisfactorily smooth on their new console.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

If agree with you btw. It looks great but plays like shit.

How do you make and embed HQ webm gifs?

Maybe I need to play some more...I'm enjoying the area too much atm. Had some frustrations with missions but meh. I should keep playing.

This thread is good:

I use xmedia recode and set it to custom. About 13K bitrate.
I just paste the link (uploaded to pomf.se) in gaf and it embeds if you have this addon afaik:

What exactly am I supposed to be impressed by here? Much like Watch Dogs, it doesn't look anywhere near as good as the initial reveal.

While it's nice that they are keeping everyone in the loop while the game gets fixed, they are pretty much admitting that they don't know when the game will actually be finished in a salable state.

Right, fuck patting them on the back. THey shipped a broken game, knew it was broken, now aren't sure when they can fix it.

In the meantime, return $ you stole from consumers. And fuck off.

And as usual, the big gaming media has said fuck all.

It doesn't have to look anywhere near as good as the initial reveal to still look good. I personally think that when it's looking how it's supposed to, ACU looks incredible, regardless of whether it looks like the initial reveal.

Moreover, I think it looks pretty damn close to that reveal in this video, anyway.

I sure do enjoy when a company lets consumers play full price
plus optional microtransactions
to beta test a game!

I'm not using ultra textures and very little AA. Down the line this game is going to look incredible to come back to when we can turn the settings up way higher and have it playable too.

Watch Dogs didn't end up looking that far off the reveal. It wasn't the same but it was damn close. Haven't really seen this AC:U reveal but the graphics are really impressive when it's working properly. Especially the lighting and how things look in general. Very impressive stuff.

That webm is pretty compressed too since pomf has a limit but you can still see what I'm talking about above.

the glitches and frame rate are all in fiction. this is the consumer animus, correct? of course it performs worse.

please keep up, people. /s

Looks like giant studios can not get in on the Early Access craze...

Or, another way: making AAA games this generation is more expensive than it has been any other generation. With game prices staying the same, we have to find other ways to monetize. Not only can we do that through DLC content, we can tune the game to incentive f2p style microtransactions. Further, we have found a way to get people to pay us full price or more in order to beta test. Truly we have found a way to make everyone happy. Except the consumer but fuck'em, they'll buy this shit anyway.

Good news, everyone!

Well I for one am ecstatic they have their priorities right. I mean how else can we reward the company for working on these patches they are promising if not by purchasing microtransactions, while the base game is a broken mess.
