Ubisoft recently confirmed that it has pumped more money into marketing Star Wars Outlaws than any other game it has released

In a recent financial update, Ubisoft’s CEO revealed that the firm has put more money and effort into marketing Star Wars Outlaws than any other Ubisoft game ever released. He also stressed that the company expects a strong launch based on the ‘positive community sentiment’ circulating the project.

"What we are factoring in is a strong launch for Star Wars Outlaws. That’s the fact that it’s among the most awaited games of the industry this year and reflecting a really strong positive community sentiment, and also the fact that we are coming with the biggest marketing campaign ever so far for a Ubisoft game."

However, a recent gameplay video that surfaced online drew negative feedback based on how ‘unpolished’ the game looks – and it’s hitting the market in just one month.

Ubisoft thinks the next few months will be monumental for the business. This is mostly because of the impending releases of both Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but also because of the ongoing energy around live service titles like Rainbow Six Siege and XDefiant, which has exceeded expectations since being released in May 2024.

I have thought they would have advertised Avatar more heavily. Than this game. I'm going to get it. But I've already seen a lot of criticism of the game.

Yves Guillemot should shut up and stop giving any type of statements. Nobody has respect for him anymore, in fact, he should leave the company because he is an absolute incompetent and its been proven many times

I cant believe we haven't had an splinter cell in 10 years. Fuck this guy

The question is where they pumped the money. Probably some diversity advisor studio or such a crap. The main protagonist looks like it was pitched by such a studio…

Im NOT gonna day one the game, but ill be sure to get into it before the end of the year.

Considering the upgrades theyve made to Anvil and Snowdrop, either of these engines would be absolutely perfect for SplinterCell.......how the fuck dont we have a new SplinterCell.

Ubisoft: Pumped more money into marketing than any other game.

Perhaps one of the only franchises you don't really need to spend a lot on marketing.....

This game is probably broke as fuq and they are trying to get as many in early as they can.

My guess is it will have a review embargo until the day of release as well

I'm not particularly interested in playing a Splinter Cell which stars the new black trans woman Samantha Fisher so actually I would rather this Ubisoft let Splinter Cell rest

Shoulda pumped more money into graphical work and polish, based on some of the gameplay effects that were on display in the IGN videos.

Just realized I misread headline. I thought it said "Ubisoft recently confirmed that it has pumped more money into making Star Wars Outlaws than any other game it has released"

So to say all the money went into crap like IP rights isn't saying much that Ubi didn't just say themselves lol

I sense a bomb on their hands.
We shall see after the smoke settles. I'm a diehard SW fan- and i'm struggling with this one.

They are releasing in the wake of The Acolyte (3.9 on imdb). If ever a Star Wars game were to bomb…

By contrast, if they’d made it an old school Han Solo game with no social commentary ….

Modern corporate logic:

"We've spent $5m licensing a beloved, world-famous IP!"
"Wow! That should pretty much sell itself!"
"Yeah, you'd think, but we spent so much on securing a bankable IP that we're now gonna have to spend nearly as much again making sure we get a return on investment."
"But surely things already famous shouldn't need so much promotion? That's why you spend money getting the license, right?"
"Yeah, no: the rule is, you spend money making people aware of things they already know about and for totally new things you don't tell anybody about them."
"But, what about when massive IPs with huge marketing campaigns flop and new IPs with no marketing are a massive success?"
"Ah, when that happens you simply stick one index finger in each ear and say very loudly "la, la, la, la, can't hear you, not listening."

Its very hard for me to believe this game won't sell well.

its open world Star Wars made by MASSIVE to a crowd that eats up Assassins Creed every year.

It’s weird, every time they show more of it, I get less interested in it. Its not helping that it seems downgraded from the first time they showed it.

Oh yeah, the Star Wars franchise is in a "fine" position with things like Acolyte. Surelly they can afford more loses like those ones.

I had this same discussion with my son. Intead of this bland lead- slap Han Solo onto it. At the most basic level you now have an interesting story and a character we can get behind.
To some extent im going to say the same about Kal Kestis. He's ok- but make it Ewan McGregor and it's more.
To your point on Acolyte. Could end up being like Solo was to Last Jedi. Except i thought Solo was a fun experience.

Ultimately, I get it- these things cost. Is what it is- and as it stands, this looks incredibly boring and uninspired.

So they spent more money on trying to sell this trash instead of..........you know.......making the game amazing? Game companies need better leaders. Yve is a fucking retard.

They are fucking using Star Wars IP, does it really need that much money to market this game? And people wonder why game development is becoming expensive……wasting money for most pointless shit.

they went with what might as well be his kid sister (who just happens to have luke's chin & hair). i think they wanted someone similar to hans but 'less adult', like aloy, so kids could relate to her more? for better or worse, obviously...

Meanwhile I'm replaying Dark Forces games (two FPS of the 90s), which have, at least, better combat and more appealing playable character than Outlaws. And cheaper.

Why do you guys fall for Ubisoft trashy output every single time? Their games are Just unending recycled mechanics and models from previous games, bad code, bugs, terrible game design and thousands of markers on the map.

I couldn't believe I've read someone here admitting buying skins on Assassins Creed. You are not even gonna show It off to anyone my dude, but who am I to blame. Ive dig a bit on swimsuit packs for some jrpgs a few years Ago...

But still, most Ubisoft games are Just slop. After playing Siege for so long, I had decided to try some racing game. First went with Forza Horizon and It was amazing. Then went with the then New the Crew 3... And couldnt believe my eyes How fugly, disgusting and with similar bugs and visual It was to Siege, a First person shooter totally unrelated from the same Company, being a GaaS and that should have no shareable DNA to One another. And they looked similar. I mean, most of their games Just feel like are the same game at this point.

Im baffled at seeing such a huge Company with so many employees and teams do such terrible, uninspired, ugly and factory-like Made games like Ubisoft.

And I used to love the Company. But after they cancelled Rayman 4, I should've seen It coming. Mediocrity at its fullest. You can have more passion and dedication from B devs.

It's Star Wars, make a competent product and it'll sell itself.

Heck, make an incompetent one and it still won't be far off.

Gonna be honest: if this game featured Kyle Katarn instead of a literally who with mop hair, I could have some interest on it.

But even then, based on the gameplay they showed the game seems like the usual, generic third-person gameplay we've seen a dozen times already but with a Star Wars coat of paint. Looks cool, but I don't think it plays or feels any cool.

If this is anywhere near as good as Hogwarts Legacy Ubisoft will be laughing

In life we get difficult news sometimes, someone has to be nominated to deliver the bad news.
Ok, so which one of you is it going to be?
