Like I know what Conor looks like at 145 but that still looks nasty compared to how he looked like tonight.

I didn't post that out of malice, I love conor the fighter (and occasionally the business man).

I posted it because weight cutting really needs to stop.

Fix your shit, ufc.

I've never been more happy about being wrong. Always wanted to see Connor take a beating but doubted that Diaz would be the one to do that.

I honestly don't think that Conor goes back to 145lbs. I think he'll try and grab the 155lb belt while holding the FW title to claim the two weight bragging rights and then stays at 55 and then try again at 170.

Everyone should watch this it was a really great interview.

Highlight for me was at 6:50 talking about McGregor shooting for the take down "O you're a wrestler now" LMAO

Fantastic interview. Nate's a humble dude and seems like a great guy when not doing his usual shtick. Love how all of them are giggling and joking with each other over fighters' frustrations over Conor's push. Also admire his respect for Frankie/Cruz.

What a night. I definitely knew Nate had the tools to win but did not expect him at all to actually pull it off. McGregor was relying way too much on that straight left albeit to good success in the first. But every time he took a shot from Nate, I could see him slowly breaking down in true Diaz volume beatdown fashion. He was sapping him slowly and it was all downhill from there once he rocked him.

His ground game seriously needs some work. Dos Anjos would have murdered him inside the first. Conor imo looked pretty "heavy" at 170 and just didnt seem to have that normal spring in his step. He's truly in limbo now since he would have to take that meth head cut down to 145 to defend that strap or maybe make a 155 run starting from the bottom rung. Hoping he makes a comeback like GSP once did but filling up those holes can't really be done overnight with all the monsters at 145/155.

I don't really know where Nate goes on from here either. He's already been destroyed by RDA and a rematch isn't exactly appealing. There seems to be talks of Lawler but I'd rather see Nick in there for that.

Awesome win by Meisha. She's been working for that belt forever and I'm glad she finally got it. With Ronda waiting in the wings, the women's 135 title might be a case of hot potato between the 3. The UFC is truly a mess right now coming off one of their biggest PPVs ever and a horrifying PPV like this (losing their last golden goose) is going to be pretty tough to recover from.

Wanted Conor to have a nice long run to bring MMA to relevance but can't do that with a worse BJJ than Nate's Sunday school kids. The better man should always win.

What? No.

Fighters lose all the time. All the greats have lost fights. Ronda and Connor aren't the first two hyped fights to lose. They will come back and win a lot more, still draw a lot of money, and nobody will care. If anything, the fact they can lose makes it more exciting.

I swear some people have short memories. Go back and watch the first 150 PPVs and see how regularly most of the great fighters lost as frequently as they won. It's part of the sport.

UFC is in the best place it's been for years man.

Jon Jones, GSP and Aldo (pre Conor) ruined it for everyone!

Connor pretty much dominated most of the fight. He landed a ton of lefts to Diaz's face. Then Diaz caught him on the chin, and that's where it started to unravel.

Yeah getting schooled by Diaz on the feet, tapping, and lasting 1.5 rounds is a total domination on Mcgregor's part.

Nate destroyed him, and that's all there is to it.

Are you serious? Until he got tagged in the second round, Connor was in control and was winning the fight. It all started to unravel from there.

He didn't even last two rounds. Can't throw 'domination' around when he lost clearly, decisively, and most importantly quickly.

Just finished watching the event, went into it without spoilers, shit, what a night of upsets! The UFC has lost the last of their golden boys... but Tate, man, that's a good turn for them. Miesha is marketable and likable. She should get a title defense that's NOT Ronda.

Anyway, wow.

edit: I want to add, a lot of Conor's punches landed on Nate's elbows, forehead, and Nate did a great job of rolling with the ones that did land. I underestimated that Diaz boxing and overestimated how hurt Nate was in the first round.

I've seen a photo of Aldo a few years ago that he looked like a zombie. What's the advantage of cutting weight to supposedly fight smaller guys if you're actually fighting people that are cutting just like you??? It really needs to stop.

It's only rabid anti-fanboys that are saying things like this, every major commentator has pointed out that McGregor was dominating initially.

McGregor could have won but I feel he needs to focus on his BJJ if he wants to compete at higher weights. He's a brown belt, he lost to a black belt, if he wants to beat bigger opponents he primarily needs to outskill them on the ground.

Conor won the first round, yes. But he was not 'dominating', y'all are acting like Nate landed a wild haymaker and that changed the course of the fight. He outboxed Conor, and he submitted him. Conor tapped before the end of round 2.

Maybe Conor can attend one of Nate's bjj seminars this Sunday~

“You’re like a gazelle, bunched up together and hoping you get spared. Your little gazelle friends are going to look through the cage (at you) getting eaten alive and they’re going to say ‘we’re never going to cross this river again’.” -Conor Mcgregor at the pre-fight press conference.

Rewatching now

The energy in the MGM grand arena when Tate takes Holm's back (both times) is through the roof. What a great finish
Yeah, that was awesome. As someone who was never super interested in the women's division, I never would have expected the Holly Holm - Miesha Tate fight to be by far the best fight of the night.

McGregor - Diaz was fun, but Holm - Tate was quality.

Diaz #1 contender for the 145 belt now. :bow

McGregor was winning until he was losing. :lol

I don't care how good of a counterpuncher you are, or how much you think you're winning by, dropping your hands and showing your chin is never a smart idea. Never. Diaz tagged him good and dominated after that until the end.

How was Nates post fight interview?
Rogan: "You shocked the world, how does it feel?"
Diaz: "I'm not surprised, motherfucker"

Both post fight interviews were good.

Ugh, Tate has to defend against Rousey. That's garbage. Styles make fights and Miesha can't win that one. You even saw it in the Holm fight, she's just not a good enough athlete.

Women's fighting is legit. I wasn't onboard until RR/Tate 2, which was a fun fight. Female fighters bring different skills to the table. There's not the one-punch power, at least not in women's MMA yet, but on the ground the ladies are very flexible.

It was dramatic with a great finish. I had it scored even during the first four (10-10, 8-10, 10-9, 10-9), with Holm winning the fifth up to that point when Tate shot in for that laboured takedown and held on. It was great.

Absolutely! It drives me up the wall when I talk to guys who are major fight fans but say they hate watching women fight. Fuck off with that sexist viewpoint. Look at them- They have as much fight and excitement and technique as the men, and they can fucking bring it. Thinking that they are these vulnerable flower pots who must not be touched. ugh. Every woman I know through Martial Arts feels the same way. If you wanna score brownie points, take interest in what they want to do. Don't ignore them because you got outdated views about what it means to be strong, or because you think don't think women embody the entire spectrum of fighting like men.

There are a lot of people who hope McKenzie Dern will be succesfull in MMA. She beat a brazillian, Abby Garcia, who outweighed her by more than 100 pounds in a absolute (no weight) grappling division. Shit was bananas. As Garcia had bullied the womens divisions with her strength.

I hope she will do really good. She is very, very good on the ground!

All you dweebs counting out Nate eariler in the thread:

How does that crow taste?

It taste good. As a grappling fan, tonight was a major win for Jiu-Jitsu:) At least the Holly Holm fight. Hearing that the crowd went estatic when Holly got her back taken really makes me happy. It's a big contrast to UFC crowd reactions in the past "stop doing that gay shit" because they didn't understand the ground game at all!

Oh man. I put money on Tate and won. Pretty happy there. I put a few bets on Connor and one on Diaz to hedge at +1000 which seemed ridiculous, but the computer glitched and I got nervous so I backed down from all my McGregor/Diaz bets completely and just saved my money. Dammit.

The audience reacts to drama, the audience reacts to shifts of energy in a fight.

Holm pretty much outclassed Tate on foot, so whenever it went to the ground, the audience felt that this was a big moment and chance for Tate and reacted accordingly, it's no different than a fighter getting hit hard, creating a big chance for the opponent. The audience recognises that and reacts.

The problem with jiu-jitsu and the ground game is that things are usually not so clear-cut and with people not being able to really tell what's going on, that doesn't really energise until one fighter has another in the chokehold (at which point it's clear again).

The stylistic matchup was so clear in the Holm - Tate fight that the audience could read the fight correctly and reacted correctly.

It was awesome. :D

also, I've seen a lot of shitty nicknames over the years, but "The Preacher's Daughter" must be the absolutely worst one, easily.

Fucking terrible. I'd even take embarrassing shit like "Juicy J" and "Beastin 25/8" over that one. :lol

It appeals to a certain demographic. Can't say I like it much either.

Glad Male Ronda lost. I'd been a fan since Cage Warriors but he had been insufferable lately. UFC have given him such a big push when in truth he is a top 3 @ 145 and top 5 at 155 at best imo.

It's irresponsible to give Ronda a fight at all after her suicide comment, but this is the absolute worst one they could've put together. Everyone will go into that fight believing that she's going to smash Tate -- Ronda included. She was mentally destroyed after the Holm loss, but what happens if she loses to her most bitter rival in a fight that she'll be heavily favored to win?
