UK General Election - 8th June 2017 |OT| - The Red Wedding

Been a while since I popped into this thread, but with the election now looming, felt right to come back.

It certainly feels... weird and interesting how a lot of the tone has shifted over the last few weeks. In a morbidly cynical way, it feels like the last few weeks have exposed May's political record in a way that I think most wouldn't have expected. I still somewhat expect her to win given how FPTP turns to work out and all, but still... I dare to dream.

The site is bullshit. Worse than bullshit, actively dangerous. It's backing Labour over the Lib Dems in fucking Somerset.

Sure they did badly in 2015, but West Somerset will not go socialist. It might go Lib Dem in the future if they keep working on their base. Labour didn't even field candidates in all wards for the local elections for fuck's sake, and their vote share was absolutely pitiful.

I can't really feel that way given I think the horrific business in Manchester and London has given a not-insignificant amount of momentum to Labour's campaign - especially now police cuts are the hot issue.

Like obviously it's pushing things in the direction I'd prefer to see but I'd rather no-one had to die and that to make that happen? Bittersweet doesn't quite cover it, ha.
Of course.

That remark came across as insensitive which was not my intention at all. It's exciting in the sense that we don't know what's going to happen, it's tragic that it happened this way though.

Am I... doing something wrong?

Today's r/thathappened copypasta from the Britain firster on my Facebook. Anyone have those social impact and economist letter links?

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Corbyn's vision of socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, ”OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Corbyn's ideological plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for £ 's )something closer to home and more readily understood by all).
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

It could not be any simpler than that.

There are five morals to this story:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Bridgwater and West Somerset is my home seat, says to vote for the Labour candidate (a Corbynite).

Looking at 2015 the Lib Dems were behind Labour

yBdn841.png

Although that seems to be born from a Lib Dem collapse as in 2010

Either way it looks like a pretty set in stone Tory seat :/

That swing to UKIP in 2015... FROM the Lib Dems it seems.

So... Just shite then? He's attacking a strawman.

I've seen that BS posted myself. It would be very easy, and perhaps fun to re-write parts of it with an anti-Conservative slant and get the idiots continuing to share it.

Some of the data is possibly out of date. It's recommending Lib Dem in Southport where I believe YouGov recently reported Liz Savage as overtaking Sue McGuire for 2nd place. That might be wrong anyway, and I believe the Conservative stands a high chance of running away with the vote there anyway, but I guess you never know..

...and then everyone stood up and cheered?

Britain First supporters are somehow even dumber than UKIP.

...and that child was Albert Einstein? And one of One Direction gave you their heart?

Fucking love that sort of Facebook nonsense.

Also in fun news, Theresa's spent the last day trying to avoid directly criticising her mate Donald. So as her reward, Donald has made MORE comments that she'll have to awkwardly talk around!
Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his "no reason to be alarmed" statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!

Time to get this half quote trending alongside it, then bait and switch and announce it's not some smart economist but from the FMA anime. Tarring the Tories as raging anime watchers will sink them in the election.

I don't even know what to say to it. I want to say something, cause he's been posting bollocks for weeks now and I'm kind of sick of it, but it's just so dumb

This is sound advice. I've done this 3 times this election in my workplace. 33% of the times it worked every time.

Goddamn raging anime watchers. They ruined anime.

Ha, I didn't mean to say you're wrong to feel that way! If anything, it's me expressing how frustrating that one time UK politics is looking moderately OK, it's tinged with horror.

Hopefully Labour's momentum keeps on rolling exclusive from tragedies.

To talk about shame we cross over to Dover

A huge structure of the prime minister appearing to make a rude gesture towards the rest of Europe appeared on the White Cliffs of Dover today.

The effigy of Theresa May, dressed in a Union Jack dress while flicking the ‘V’ sign with her fingers, towered over the port town before it was swiftly removed.

Understood to be well over 50ft tall, the structure looks out over the Channel, and has received a mixed response among locals in St Margaret’s.

I don't feel angry, confused or even puzzled. I just feel embarrassed at this point.

What is with the irrational obsession and hatred with the EU? I don't even understand how or why people think like that.

I will say I doubt it's some mass get together of all the people in the area to put it up, regardless of them largely voting leave. We need to find out who funded it and put it up to be fair. However, it's symbolic of how many "feel" about Brexit and you can bet there is a mass of faces grinning widely on social media at this stunt.

I chuckled myself... but it was a laugh of despair, embarrassment and cringe.

nekkid

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.

Shame. Didn't give anybody any time to deface or burn it.

Another trend of the Lib Dems being obliterated. -23 swing. Huw, you okay? :(

I mean, that was two years ago dude.

I think I'm OK now.

I'll be much better with three gains from the SNP on election night though. :)

But yeah the collapse in the South West was one big contributing factor to our demise as a party of the double figures. At least for a little longer. :)
