Huzzah! My copy of Advance Wars DC has been shipped by Game. The postal equivalent of the Millenium Falcon escaping the second Death Star as it explodes!

Well goddamn. I just came back with a massive haul of both awesome and weird. Firstly, the games. Finally found a copy of Vanquish for PS3 and some other awesome stuff.

But, in New Street GAME, I noticed something underneith the PC section.

Hoooolyyyyyy Shit. And yes, the unit and game were £1.47 together.

Dear God why have you allowed Vampire Rain into your home? It’s an abomination.

Aye, there was only two of them Gametraks. I got one and my friend the other.

Just came back from Gamestation New St, got Advance Wars Dual Strike, Zelda Phantom Hourglass, and Tetris DS for under £3. Tetris and Zelda was cart only for 48p, AW was a unlabeled box. One worker was sorting out the unboxed PS3 copies but I didn't want to wait till he took them to the shelves.

Did feel bad for the staff though, you could just see it on their faces :(

Has anyone found newer games like syndicate reduced yet? That'll be the real sign that it's over.

I saw new copies of Catherine for £29.98, syndicate for £32.98 and Fallout New Vegas UE for £19.98

PS: Hi everyone first post! ^_^

long time lurker and this thread has provided more entertainment to me than any other thread i've seen so thanks.

In terms of indie upstarts making tons of money and replacing GAME as a national supplier, you are probably right. At local level though, I do think there is room for well managed indie stores to spring up and offer a competetive service. Many already do, and that's with GAME still around.

I think to launch a successful GAME store now you have to capture the whole experience of buying into the industry. I've always been frustrated by the fact that I couldn't walk into an alleged "specialist retailer" and find rare collectibles or even commercial merchandise. I never understood why I had to cross town to our nearest Forbidden Planet to buy a figure or whatever, or other accessories and tidbits. I think you would have to upsell the whole gaming culture.. create a place that was a true specialist retailer.

I just don't know how viable it is to do it, even to maintain a sustainable business at local level.

Someone needs to start a gaming pub.

tried my luck in game today but wasn't as lucky as yesterday as i was in gamestation.

child of eden - 98p
race driver grid - 2.98p
fuel - 98p
darksiders - 2.98p
dantes inferno - 4.98p
spiderman shattered dimensions - 4.98p
1200 microsoft points x 4 - 19.96p
deathsmiles deluxe edition - 4.98p
the orange box - 4.98p
condemned 1 - 1.98p
condemned 2 - 2.98p
dead space 1 - 2.98p
dead space 2 - 4.98p

i was going to buy mass effect 1 and mass effect 2, but they both scanned in for 12.99p and 17.99p. can't believe they are still charging those prices for them.

Working at the head office today so during my lunch break I raided the local Game & Gamestation. Game a had a lot of empty walls, GS not so much. I internally lol'd when they asked me if I wanted to pre-order anything. My finds:

Wii:
Battalion Wars 2 £1.99
Pikmin: New Play Control £1.99
Sin & Punishment: Sucessor... £2.99

PSP:
Sonic Rivals 2 £2.99
Lumines 99p
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 £1.99
Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley £7.99

Passed on Mario Strikers, Rainbow Islands DS. Hoping for further reductions in a week or 2 for 1st party Nintendo titles and 3DS titles.

My local GAME and Gamestation, despite advertising big sales, have pre-owned games at essentially the same price as a couple of weeks ago, sometimes higher. It's ridiculous.

a lot of the games i bought today weren't labelled, same as yesterday in gamestation. i took what i wanted to the counter and asked them to scan the games that weren't labelled.

The copy of Punch Out my Gf picked up was basically mint. Was excellent condition, unused Club Nintendo code... would almost assume it was a brand new copy that had been gutted, and the case lovingly looked after.

I say "was"... I'd completely forgotten that Game likes to put their shitty little barcode stickers on everything but the actual disc 9which was a little dirty, but at least not scratched)

Those fucking stickers leave half behind when you try to take them off, and even if you do manage to scrape the gluey crap off it still remains sticky and always will. I swear that residue will outlast the manual that it's still stuck on.

FUCKING BARBARIANS!!!

Oh this annoys me so much! It's even worse when places used to write on loose carts in permanent marker! Trying rubbing that off. Ugh.

A quick tip I learnt for removing Game pre-owned stickers, use Blu-Tack (Bostik, not the cheap rubbish) to basically dab the sticky gunk left behind. It takes a couple of minutes, but the Blu-Tack will remove all the sticky without damaging the manual.

Anyway today has been, well, yeah. I think if I hear someone say "So I heard you are closing down soon" one more time I'm going to scream. I'm curious to see if checkeredknight or any other employees got the hilarious bulletin message about "the internet" as well today.

Space Marine CE on PS3 for £1.98. Yes, £1.98. Even the staff were shocked (labelled at £49.99, scanned at till at £1.98).

Got a copy for me and my fiancée. And damn, it's a nice CE presentation wise.

Picked up a Batman Arkham City CE (one with figure) for £19.97 as well. Or it was £19.xx anyway.

Hunted around quite a few of my nearby game stores for the Skyrim CE, but none had it.

In today's Adventures of Dambrosi the Vulture:

Well, I won't bore you with the details, but I sold that steelbook of Vanquish I got on Saturday for £3 and got a nice crisp fiver for it. I then went to the Liverpool ONE GAME and bought £4 worth of cheap PS3 tat...which cost me £2.90. A quick trip to Cash Generators, and I got £11 for those five Blu-platters, making £10.10 out of an initial £2.98 outlay. Why, I was so pleased with that that I immediately went to Gamestation in Huyton (had to go there for other reasons) and bought Vanquish again for £2.98! I'm sorry, the game is just that good!

...oh, that other business? Had to go collect £25 of shopping vouchers I earned for doing a course. Which I promptly went out and spent.

In HMV.

On this:

dark-souls-collectors-edition-final.png

Dark Souls Lim Ed, extras untouched, card code still valid, for practically FREE.

Awwwww Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh, that's what Daddy's talkin' about. That GOOD stuff, yeah.

...er, sorry for the off-topic, but I had to share.

Anyway, what's the latest over/under on GAME Group lasting into next week?

You shouldn't be commenting! YOU SHOULDN'T BE COMMENTING!! Oh god no. ;P

My haul from last couple of visits:

Medieval Moves - £1.98
Kane & Lynch 2 - £1.98
Kung Fu Rider - £2.98
Alpha Protocol - £1.98
Truth or Lies - 48p
Quantum of Solace - £2.98
Vanquish - £2.98
Modern Warfare 2 - £4.98
Top Spin 3 - £2.98
Wet - £1.98
Wired singstar mics - £1.98
Move charger dock - 48p
Forza 3 - £1.98 which was priced wrongly. Should of been £4.98 and when they noticed mistake went and took all copies off shelf..

My copy of De blob 2 DS is on its way. Also the £0.07 of rewards points somehow combined with £0.00 of reward points to make £0.08.
I can't bring myself to buy Disaster for £1.91 and make £1.09 profit at CeX...(assuming CeX has anything I actually want to buy oh and their Disaster price holds...).

Seriously though, what else is due out in the coming weeks? ANYTHING of worth?!
Kid Icarus is about it I'd say.

I thought the Blocksbuster games dept was Gamestation though?
It was something like Blockbuster had some sort of stake in Gamestation so Gamestation did the gaming section in bigger stores where in towns where there was no Gamestation.

When GAME bought Gamestation these vanished.

Some prices are decent(ish) but some seem ridiculous - e.g. £51.05 for Castlevania Lords of Shadow on 360... I assume that drops significantly with bulk orders?
Thats the price they expect you to sell it at, not the price you bought it for. But you would have to sell at that price to make a reasonable profit. Problem is, gamers won't pay that much.

Its funny here in the UK video game prices have basically been near static since PS2 days yet we still gripe it costs too much.

Are there many reports of hardware being included in these sales? Is there any chance of picking up a cheap PS3?!
Only used. I think any of the good PS3 bundles are long gone (there were crazy ones like peopel being new 320GB consoles for £99).

Has anyone found newer games like syndicate reduced yet? That'll be the real sign that it's over.
Think their exclusive PC version is £25 but maybes thats more it being a PC version (Oregon for instance has it £17.95 or something).

Oh this annoys me so much! It's even worse when places used to write on loose carts in permanent marker! Trying rubbing that off. Ugh.
They used to do that to give you less if you traded it in again. Cheeky. Anyway, Nail varnish remover gets round that.

Is my GAME the only one that doesn't have a sale on Arkham city?Jesus, its still £33 in my local.

There's one thing I will miss about GAME, their stupid exploitable trade-in deals.

I remember when they had a trade in any 2 DS games and get a chart game for £1.

I went to CEX and bought 4 shitty DS games for £10 and then traded them in for GTA:Chinatown and Prof Layton 1. I then gave the girl (who turned out to be the manager) them right back and said I didn't want them and asked for store credit.

She went on the phone to head office for 20 mins to try and get out of giving me the credit and in the end had to. Got myself £80 store credit :D

...did the same a few years earlier with 2 PS2 games for £5 from gamestation and traded them in for Donkey Kong Jungle Beat with Bongos.

Thanks for those days GAME. Cheers.

As a non employee of GMG I really want to hear this bulletin.

But I guess the message was "We aren't closing down, we aren't closing down, don't believe everything you read on the internet. Hum your favourite song, crouch in the fetal position, stick fingers in ears and remember not to panic."
