UMVC3: Phoenix Wright and Nova Revealed!

I bet there is a card that allows you to pick multiples of the same character. There is a lot of potential in the card system.
There is already a card that allows you to do that. It's called Army of One or something... it's when they showed Zero dying by Iron Fist only for another Zero to come and take his place.

It's probably the Multi-Man card.

Yup. I wouldn't have known about that mode if I hadn't caught the right pages when you guys talked about it.

Definitely worth promoting and linking trailers too. I'm glad to see a new mode being tossed in other than just spectator mode, because that makes the value and the rate at which this release came feel like a better deal than the initial announcement for me.

This adds another dimension of strategy to it. The order of the cards themselves could have a significant impact on how you play and it makes placement just as important as the kinds of cards you pick.

It is a good idea and it should keep things from getting out of hand.
Team of One card basically does that. It's in the trailer.

Yeah, that's a lot of new information though, I feel like it'd go right over people's heads with a thread title update.

Also, @Dahbomb, IntelliHeath said he won't be able to find time to make the OT in his schedule, so are you up for doing it? If not, I'd gladly take it over. There's less than a month left!

Like I said before, I would of had no problem with that line of reasoning if a spiderman game unrelated to the movie had not come out last week.

Im not saying capcom are lying, im just arguing its not a reasonable excuse for marvel to give.

The majority of comic only and casual fans will have long forgotten about UMVC3 by July 2012, which IIRC was the main reason Marvel wanted this released so early anyway (although I know capcom's need for a holiday hit was just as, if not more important)

Exactly. Who freaking remembers or cares about the villains in Edge of time at this point or shattered Dimensions from last year? Who the heck is going to say, bah I'll pass on this game because Doc Ock was in Edge of Time, or Sandman being in shattered Dimensions last year?

I believe Capcom that there were issues pertaining to Spidey characters, but I place all blame on Marvel stupidly over-thinking this and blindly blocking them all (it seems). I don't think the movie is a reasonable excuse either. This game has nothing to do with the movie coming out about 7 months after this. That's an eternity in gaming. Gamers have a 2 month memory at best.

There's plenty of Spidey villains to go around and I don't see how having ONE form the huge list of potential characters is going to negatively affect their brand... but that's not what the genius marketing people think. Screw Marvel.

Oh yeah, I think it's even more stupid to block characters from a fighting game due to a movie. Being in a fighting game is essentially a cameo - there's no semblance of plot. It's different than a dedicated game where they may be a plot or story arc that might overlap with the movie. Another way in which Marvel execs have their heads up their asses.

Have they released the intro yet? i need to see this bitch again in HD.

Soooo much better than MvC3 and the music is fucking epic.

I will let you know tomorrow. If my net gets upgraded by today I will be up for the task. I will most likely finish it up in a few days and then I have to take my prep leave. Will then post it at Nov 1st on the dot.

And new thread should be made when the hi-def stuff hits online (concerning H&H).

It allows 3v3 matches? I only saw one character teams when those cards were shown in the trailer.
The option is there. Your opponent can choose to pick that card for multiple characters or not. Personally it's not worth the card slot but the option is there for those who want it.

Also these cards sort of remind me of MVC1 with the assist character selection. Of course just like that system... some assists are going to be WAY better than others. I really don't see how if I put Super Armor on my Vergil Rapid Slash assist that anyone can do anything about it.

Watching Season's Beatings, it's amazing how boring Phoenix makes the game...
When it becomes Dark Pheonix vs Dark Pheonix, there's no longer a point to look at the screen. Just watch the health bars until one drains instantly in one hit.

Remember that time when I was saying that I wouldn't buy another DmC game as long as I live? I'm a hypocrite.

People were making a big deal out of being able to choose three of the same characters. I'd say this is a fantastic solution if we can play online against each other with these options like it is a normal player match.

Season's Beatings gave me the best Mario Party mash session ever + the accompanying hype over how awesome/dumb that shit was. It can never be anything but the best Marvel 3 event now. :lol

@Solar - Don't hate on DMC because of Marvel 3, seriously. The franchise is great and if Capcom treated it as well as they did the characters coming into MvC3, then we wouldn't be looking at DmC and people wouldn't be scared about what it meant for the series if the game didn't sell due to fan backlash.

Nah it's more like you get a second wind and a third.

Maybe though, if it's primary then you get all three at once and can DHC between them, and then if secondary you only get 3 separate lives? That'd be cool.

Also noted, Dahbomb. If you post it November 1st though, remember a mod will lock it until November 8th (a week before release). Hope FW/RR are revealed in time for that. Getting it done in a few days would mean some hella intensive work.

I want to talk about the characters this time around. Rocket Raccoon in particular. How does he fit into the MvC Universe?

When we think of Rocket Raccoon, that character just lends himself to comedy, so we can take some of the comedic aspects of his character and personality and incorporate that into the game. And I think that’s what makes him fit really well.

Will Frank West play as he did in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, or will he play differently?

Well the base play style for Frank West will be the same, but we made some adjustments and tweaks to him so we’re able to open him up more because while there are similarities with the two games, there are also some great differences, so we had to match him to Marvel vs. Capcom. This time out, I think he’s more fun to play.

Dont nececarily know what to make of that.

That account also has the H&H trailer in HD, so enzo or dahbomb could create the new thread.

Okay, so current team build looks like:

Phoenix Wright, Dr. Doom, Dormammu.

Team "Sell your soul to the Devil."

Phoenix Wright on point, Dr. Doom with the missiles. For canon purposes, let's say Phoenix was hired by Dr. Doom to represent him in court, with Dormammu being the head honcho.

2/3 of my old MVC3 team is still there, which makes me happy. I love Dr. Doom as a Marvel character, and Dormammu has been my "day negative three" character since I got the game URRRRLEY three days before release

/laughs

Man, 20% of me is trying to be serious while the other 80% is just smiling all the way to November with the crazy characters and setups.

I mean, I grew up with these games. Marvel Super Heroes. Marvel Vs Capcom 1. X-Men vs Street Fighter. Not because they were deep or popular... BUT GODDAMN IT, YOU GOT RYU ALONGSIDE CYCLOPS DOING HYPER BEAMS TOGETHER. HOW IS THAT NOT AWESOME.

It's like my MUGEN years all over again. Except this time... it just works. :)

This is a glorious time, my friends.

wow, yeah. I saw Seth at NYCC. I caught him watching people playing umvc3 awhile carrying lunch. I tried to talk to him with my notebook but he was in hurry. (I presumed Stream)
So I asked capcom worker to pass the note for me.

Oh, Capcom.

Thread is up, I can't link it cause I'm doing this from my iPhone. Made appropriate edits. If you have more screens/media/discussion, please post in that thread. We'll still use this thread for the geeky gameplay discussion as it has the changelog and IntelliHeath's great OP.

He's an air dash card at that suggesting that Niitsuma knows he's an agile zoning character at the very least...

The wounds... They sting all over again.

I also forgot to mention the cards. The Capcom art looks really cool and it varies in style from character to character, but the Marvel art looks really bland across the board(dat shadow).

Looking forward to seeing all the cards though. I also have a feeling that they will almost certainly not effect the chances of a character making it in either.
