UMVC3: Phoenix Wright and Nova Revealed!

FWIW, I'd rather the DLC characters be underpowered than overpowered.

I'm waiting for the day when something like vanilla Phoenix is DLC. Pay2win.

I take some issues with saying that Shuma "isn't tournament viable" as-is, though. Wolverine/Shuma is more irritating to deal with than Wolverine/Akuma.
I would agree with this. I cringe at the thought of an overpowered DLC character.

Shuma has a great assist of course. But facts are facts... Shuma is currently the worst character in the Marvel side.

I wanted to find this little post in particular. I remember that you made a list with about 27 viable tournament characters in UMvC3. How much bigger does your list get now that we have seen the Marvel changelog? I'm thinking about 35-38 viable characters with the meh ones being Capcom characters and Shuma.
Still too hard to say. By viable I mean tournament winning capability not "I am going to go into a tournament with my obscure low tier character and win a few matches" because then viability stretches down to even the worst character. I will say that the character diversity should be more in UMVC3 than in MVC3 starting out barring any ridiculous technology or pairing discovered.

Damn that suck about the misunderstanding of super armor on Sentinel's aerial moves. Why did Sentinel have to become the big bad villain of MvC 3 Online? I'm glad Capcom did the right thing by not nerfing Doom and actually buffing him. Makes up for this mistreatment of the machine.

I'm sticking with Morrigan, personally. It seems like I might be even more alone in using her, though.

Berserker Charge command input priority changed to the lowest among Hyper Combos.
Explanation: if you input a bunch of hyper commands during a cinematic screen or X-Factor screen, the game has a list of what it should consider to be top priority among those commands. For most characters, their level 3 beats all. So, if I am playing Dormammu, and during my opponent's cinematic screen for a hyper I input Dark Dimension at any time, Dark Dimension will come out. So, Berserker Charge is always lowest on Wolverine's priority list. I don't think this will change anything unless you mash a lot.

I think people are overreacting to the Sentinel nerfs. Notice anything in these changelogs? No frame data changes, including speed. Sentinel's buffs are all in the framework of attacks being safer, faster, having more armor, and the character being faster in general. This was a "big changes" changelog. His c.M comes out significantly faster now, and Rocket Punch is safe - those are both very nice changes for him.

Watch Shuma become this godlike anti-Phoenix character
Shuma-Gorath devours Phoenix with ease.

I've never seen Shuma vs Phoenix, so could you explain yourself? I'd like to know why that is.

Ever play Blaz Blue :(

Yeah...the DLC of Makoto Nanaya was rape-o-matic. I think she is still broken if recent streams are any indication.

Uh, no. She was just good, and then became top tier in CS2 (which is a new version, so does it even count for this argument?). If anything it's like selling you, say Zero, She-Hulk, Spencer, or someone around that part of the tiers.

Chaos Dimension is unblockable and kills her if Shuma-Gorath has X-Factor on. All you need is a setup to pin her for a moment while you activate it. He can even cancel specials into the unblockable attack animation.

Funny thing is, two of the lower tier point chars were direct counters to two of the gods in Vanilla. Haggar shut Logan's gameplan down completely and Shuma fucks up whatever Phoenix tries to do. But not know much.

So remember that.

I agree, lots of small changes they are missing out particularly on Storm and hopefully on Shuma as well. Capcom has never put out full patch notes it's not until the game is in people's hands that we will know exactly where a character stands. This is more like a general overview than exact down to the frames/hit box/mathematical scaling type changes.

Most of the overreaction for Sentinel comes from the whole air armored normals thing which would've been nice to have on his stomps.

So remember that.
Arthur is good against Phoenix too as proven at Devastation (most of us knew this already) and Hsien Ko is 9-1 against Wolverine with Gold armor on.

Ok that's good to know although I was expecting a similar explanation.

A new fan made color pallete collection was made on SRK. Caj posted a similar one a while back and the same person from SRK made another one.

Enjoy...

For five seconds and only if that Wolverine presses buttons, can't block worth a damn and is pinned down by a lockdown assist.

haggar was also good at shutting down teleport spamming b.s. so much for that now.

Haggar can still do that. I don't know why people lump Haggar assist with the Tron assist now... Haggar's assist is still near S tier where as Tron assist is pretty much garbage. He is only vulnerable for 2 frames when he comes in, most characters can't really beat that. It's just that it's not as brainless before and doesn't reward you with a full combo off of a hardknockdown.

Teleports are going to be one of the safest punishes for lariat seeing as he is only vulnerableon startup for a couple of frames. His assist is just fine. People actually have to WORK now instead of mashing it and getting a full combo.

It was the right change to make.

I actually like quite a few of them, maybe even all. I was thinking jus tthe other day that they should have gone with the Blue / Yellow Xmen outfit for that "redhead" version of Felicia that's new to UMVC3.

The Katt / Felicia colors really shoulda happened. They truly dropped the ball on giving Felicia unique alts, and didn't even try to color her fur to make it look like various pieces, which is a real shame, after seeing how much they did with Phoenix and Maya.

Red Earth Colors Hsien Ko are also fantastic, and I really like the Nightcrawler colors as well, that looks rather fitting for her. I wonder if the completly black face Tao look would have worked well in game... Would have been really creepy, with the red dot eyes and maybe a toonish-flat white inner mouth?

Game coulda used color edit! But I guess I'll have to have all my fun with that in a certain XIII game... It's amazing how many extra colors they added in the actual game that are just... bad.

Thanks for sharing!

Yo MarvelGAF, y so silent? D:

Just that I'm busy.... (Big reason why I dropped /OT/)

I am surprised that you are not running HYPE TRAIN for RR and FW with their possibility reveals @ Oct 28-30. Also I pegged that they might reveal on 26 or so.

I am more hyped for the Capcom side roster changelog because that seems like it's right around the corner. It's going to bring some salt around here for sure.

Oh and I expect some more Tron nerfs.

Oh yes. I forget all about that.

I assume that they will release it tmw or along with colors reveal on Tuesday.

Lots of cool alts there!

Working on the OT now, and have been intensively for the past few days. Got only the character section and a bunch of graphics left and.. damn there's nowhere near enough space for everything. Dahbomb's Marvel side changelog alone is 17 out of the 24 thousand maximum allowed characters for a single post O_O And that's not something I want to compact or make sneaky workarounds for.

Might need 3 posts for this OT... four for something cool I really want to include, but it's not essential. Haven't made a decision on that yet. I, personally, think it's going to be fucking awesome for the banners alone, but I hope y'all like it.

Like I said, not something I want to compact. I want the Change log especially to be something you can reference with a copy + paste, because that's the most important bit for people. I have made an image out of a bunch of other stuff, may have to for a few other portions too.

UPDATE on QUICKSILVER:

apparently every status change that is happening the moment the glitch activates stays active, so you can get infinite devil trigger, with xfactor and ammy slowdown for example.

EDIT: apparently if you do it for long enough with status changes it freezes the game.

EDIT #2: when doing the ammy slow to devil trigger into glitch the background changes back to normal and the effects of the slow dissapear till the glitch is ended, though it affects visually on dante as in you can see the symbols of the change in style.

Yep, I like most of Felicia's alts(especially the Kitty Pride one) and I really Morrigan's Nina alt. I wasn't feeling Hsien-Ko's colors at first, but I really dig the Zabel one, the Nightcrawler one and the one based on the Witch.

Are you expecting bad things from it compared to the Marvel one?

I wouldn't be surprised by that after watching Flocker and Rog's performances in the previous weeks lol.

It works a lot better when people can clearly scan a post for changes instead.

I don't see the point of an OT if it largely links to all the important information elsewhere. It should be there for quick reference, if your going to direct the reader elsewhere, it's better if it's just a few posts down. A few extra posts are not a big deal, as long as they have their use. Subsequent OTs can link to the original OT, if we get that far.

And General is talking about this. That's pretty damn ridiculous amount of information for the sake of there being that much information.

For those who aren't up to speed on Quicksilver here's the glitch. Rogueyoshi and 10Stars came up with it and they showed it off at the Curleh Mustache Series debut yesterday.

EDIT: Haha MahvelGAF finally run out of stuff to talk about. Only about a week to go before London Expo!

haha. I just don't want to talk to myself since people seem to be out of energies or dehype atm..

Also I am very busy with stuffs ;_; Hopefully that I will be done with those things before umvc3 release.

Edited: I checked my history with topic creator. I didn't realized that I made a lot of thread that are related to fighting games; more than other genre that I care about.

60-70% of threads I made was related to MVC3 and UMVC3. *SMH* I guess I love mahvel too much.

Like... 95% of all my posts are related to Mahvel, lol.

I wish this was a forum rule, personally.

I really don't care to have to scroll over review links and basic gameplay info that everyone already knows about.

There's none of that, but basic gameplay stuff IS important for a new game to inform people that have no idea about the game. Since this is game is a revision, there is no need for that. The point of an OT is to inform, not to cater to the people who have been following the game religiously anyways, that's basically the purpose of the change log section, shit that's not implanted into your head already. That's also why I've got a FAQ section to try and keep the MMX bullshit out of discussion. Review scores are useless too, especially for fighting games.

Unfortunately, the bulk of it is the changelog. Unless you guys want me to convert every single nerf and buff to a single syllable - it's not happening. The actual OT will be just one post. I am trying to stay as far away from bloated OT as I can.

Becquerel said:
They're not mixing Marvel color schemes with Capcom characters and vice versa.
There's been a bunch of directly inspired alts though, Kraven The Hunter Haggar, etc. They could've done it. All of the Darkstalkers aren't set up for amazing alts beyond colour schemes IMO though due to the nature of their character models though.

I am still certainly hype. Busy with midterms and whatnot though. I'm sure there will be rumblings when the next costume set/Capcom change log goes out. Were we given a date on that or are people just assuming it will hit tomorrow?

I can't keep fighting theory out of my mind. They should port old Jill (mvc2) and give it to Regina. So she can avoid dinosaurs to cause them attack the opponents to keep the character in role than summon them.

221px-Regina1.png

They should do:

Unique Move:

H + F: Machete

Special Moves:

QCF: replace undead dog with Compsognathus (L), Oviraptor (M), and replace crow with Pteradon (H)

QCB: replace zombie with raptors with different set-up. (L) low attack, (m) med-high attack and (h) overhead (raptor will jump and attack)

DP: Grenade Launcher (L) low arc, (M) med arc (H) high arc (can cause overhead)

Hyper Moves:

Level 1 - Triceratops Charge (It could cause wall bounce or otg)
Level 3 - T-Rex (He would chomp the opponent and chew then spit the opponent out)
Level 1 Hyper which allow you to pick which weapon you want to use during hyper.
QCF +
L + M = Firewall
M + H = Solid Cannon
L + H = Chainmine

I know it is very basic moveset but I will add more. I just want to get it out of my head before I head to bed. I will think of normal attacks later on.

That's also why I've got a FAQ section to try and keep the MMX bullshit out of discussion.

Dude just link the changelog closer to the top of the page. It's one of the few things you should be linking aside from videos so it's not a big deal. It's way too nitty gritty for the average gamer here so no need to spend 2 pages on just the changelog. Most people don't even know what some of the stuff mean so it's just better to put it under "Extensive Balance Changes and System Revision - Changelog Part 1 and Part 2 Links".

Like 645 said keep it to a single page OT. Most people don't even read it the entire way through even if it's just 1 post.

Don't be surprised by the inevitable kneejerk posts declaring that UMvC3 is a meager update then.

Why the hell not? Heck, I'd kill for a Punisher alt for Chris.

I dunno. But I haven't seen a Marvel character with a Capcom color scheme (other than "past alt colors" from other games), and no Capcom character with a Marvel color scheme. I don't think this trend'll break off with the last few characters.

We have already surpassed our quota of UMVC3 update bitching. So it's not going to be a surprise to see more.

Anyway posted a statistical breakdown of character usage/results for MVC3 major tournaments:

http://neogaf.net/forum/showpost.php?p=32093726&postcount=3483

Fun Fact: Ryu has better tournament win percentage than some of the best characters in the game (Viper, Dante, Magneto and Zero).
