UMVC3: Phoenix Wright and Nova Revealed!

In the Japanese versions of the series, he says 'igi ari!' which means the same thing.

I know, but in MvC3...?

My internet was down all evening yesterday until sometime this noon so I missed a lot of the hyoe. Is there a pic of Nova's Red suit, which btw probably isn't an Iron Man alt, but a Nova Corps recruit suit.

Does Nova using red life tie in any way to his fiction?

I think the explanation would be that the Nova force puts way too much psychological and physical strain on one person to handle. It's meant to go to an entire Corps instead of one person.

Yeah it's that color. Yellow and red.

I listed some of the stuff discovered in the Seth/Max videos:

NOVA

*Unlike previously assumed, Nova DOES in fact have an 8 way air dash and it's decent speed. Has a flight mode too and it allows him to do flight cancel type combos. His dashes are normal cancellable so you can bet your BALL SACK he will have some baller air combos. Seth says his tri-dash is like Iron Man and I got sad when he said that. :( But seeing Seth perform that tri-dash into swoop up makes me think that Iron Man has something similar to that as well. Probably needs some lab time on that.

*His assists are Gravimetric Pulse, Nova Strike and Centurion Rush. Centurion Rush is actually his cross up dive kick that should be fairly useful in certain situations. Gravimetric Pulse as an assist is weird to me, without red health I don't know if it would be useful or not because it's just a short plasma attack. Nova Strike is his standard lunge attack and I BELIEVE it's his wall bounce version as an assist. I will take the Stagger version too just not the Light version.

*Aside from the Centurion Rush dive kick he also has 2 other Centurion arts. One is the OTG Slide like She Hulk that hits low as confirmed by Seth. The other one is the Captain America Charging Star that has projectile invulnerability at the very least and can be cancelled into launcher for a combo. Dive kick isn't an overhead... currently.

*Nova has 3 types of Nova Strikes (the one where he goes straight forward Human Rocket Punch). One version just hits the opponent into a roll, 2nd version causes a Wall bounce and 3rd version causes a Stagger. He has different starts up on these moves. One of these is available as an assist not sure which one. All Nova Strikes are air ok.

*Nova has 3 types of Gravimetric Pulses. One is a straight forward plasma out of fists and the 2nd one is the anti-air version of the same. The 3rd version is his most interesting one as it creates a barrier (AEGIS REFLECTOR UP IN THIS BITCH) that appears to have some utility. These moves get powered up when he has more red health to sacrifice so there is bound to be some juice to them. No idea what the vanilla Gravimetric Pulses do.

*Energy Javelin is launched with S + Att and has 3 different variations to it that determines the angle. Has decent tracking ability and works like a single shot Hidden Missile. Good for defensive and offensive purpose, a great all around tool.

*Nova's j.S is like Vergil's j.S which is an angled down DIVE FIST. Nova can combo off of that but since it's multi-hitting it scales up the combo some. Causes hard knockdown after hit. Slam fist is one of his ground moves that hits OTG as shown in the video, causes a ground bounce and hits overhead. Has slow start up though.

*Fast ground dash, decent air dash, fast flight cancel, good normals in speed and range, excellent slide attacks, invulnerable special moves and an invulnerable hyper move, great throw game, good overall damage, decent health and decent mix up options. J.H crosses up like a champ and his j.H OS game should be quite good.

*He has an invulnerable hyper on start up which is his Cannon hyper and has to be controlled 3 times I believe. Gravimetric Blaster gets powered up with red health and apparently the other one does too (Nova Force one). All of his LVL1 hypers are doable in the air. These can reach up to LVL3 damage with enough red health and there are 3 levels of power ups to him losing health. As mentioned before, these power ups apply to his Gravimetric Pulses as well.

PHOENIX WRIGHT

Alright I finally understand him more now.

*So he has 3 stance: Investigation, Courtroom and Turnabout just like the leak said. Investigation is your vanilla gather evidence stance and use Maya to buy you time. Once you get the evidence pieces you can use them in Courtroom mode for some really insane projectiles that spray all across the screen and each evidence is tied to a different button (both acquiring, discarding and using them are on the A, B, C slots). Each stance has it's own hyper, Investigation has that Maya hyper, Courtroom has the Gavel hyper OTG and Turnabout has the LVL3. Turnabout stance is his "god" stance and he has to actually hit someone with Objection to get it off but once he does he gains insane normals in range, damage and speed plus a LVL3 that basically guarantees death. LVL3 is NOT unblockable I haven't heard any mention of this in the stream but it hits everywhere like Gravity Squeeze and OTG. Turnabout stance ends when he uses his LVL3 or when it drains out then he has to start all over again.

*Some of the junk evidences do have uses like Meat giving him health.

*Can combo off of throw in the corner.

*Get Em Missile hits Low apparently and acts like a projectile. Is available as an assist.

*Random j.H has random property to stun. Lame.

*Power ups/stance etc persist on tag out. More durability on projectile, speed and damage.

*A lot of his normals have insane recovery and should be cancelled into something else. Poor range as well.

*Can gather evidence pretty fast and if he gets what he needs he is set but if he doesn't he has to throw stuff out and pick again which takes time. Lots of luck factor involved here. The Maya moves have insane cooldown so if he doesn't have that available he is pretty much FREE to rushdown.

*Since you have to combo into his 3rd stance, keepaway tactics should be effective against Wright as obviously he has NO way to rushdown. He will probably have to sit there and play projectile wars although that might not be too bad for him as he has very good projectiles in Courtroom stance. His 3rd stance does persist on tag out.

*Has a banana slip over head attack. While it can cancel into his launcher, Seth was having trouble hitting with it which tells that the sneeze launcher has a crap hit box too.

*Slow dash, single OTG capability (has to have an assist to relaunch), below average damage, crap normals (both in range and recovery), 0 mobility, mediocre throw game and average health. Of course most of this stuff changes in his Turnabout stance.

*I think one of his assists is the "Haters gonna hate" move and the other is the paper spray.

*Pretty much requires that you use him on point with a lockdown assist like Eye of Agomotto, Hidden Missiles, Cold Stars etc.

Sooo can we expect the last two characters to be revealed at the NYCC panel?

As you might guess going by my avatar, I definitely sure hope so.
I wouldn't put my hopes up, though... revealing 4 characters would've made just as much sense at TGS or Gamescom, so...

But there isn't really any even left. At least I can't think of anything.

It would get pretty fucking crazy up in this joint if RR/FW are revealed at the UMVC3 Panel today at around 3 PM NY time.

Intelliheath if you are reading this thread... please check if Nova's Nova Strike assist is a Wall bounce or a Stagger. Also check what happens when you use the different Gravimetric Pulse moves with some red life.

I don't want more hype. I want to know if team Average Guy is gonna rock. I just have to believe in Old Frank and his camera. Rocket is for Team Animal! (With Ammy and Firebrand, which is stretching it but fuck if i care, i want to play those 3)

He's not around anymore and has no internet.

And I thought the panel's tomorrow?

I'm gonna try Team Cosmic (Skrull, Nova, Rocky).

I feel Nova a lot, actually. I think he can work amazingly with Skrull, and if Rocky is any close to how I imagine him to be, then there's gonna be pretty rad synergy in Team Cosmic. If not, there's always Doom. He works with everyone. :3

BTW, would you guys support Maya as a DLC? Since they already have made her model why not?

Nah, she's already part of Phoenix's moveset. Franziska makes the most sense as another rep I think, and they were thinking about her for TvC too.

Oops sorry thought today was Saturday. Yeah panel is on a Saturday.

I am 50/50 on reveals tomorrow. Some stuff in favor of reveals:

*There have been events where 4 characters have been revealed. SDCC had 4 for UMVC3.

*No other major event coming up for UMVC3 until it's release in a month

*RR banner and Marvel shirt already displaying the character in full force

*There are 2 different UMVC3 tournaments being held at NYCC. It felt really strange to me but it could be that they are planning another set of reveals as well.

*General cock teasing of characters in general

*Frank West's new game coming up so chance to do cross promotion

*And of course the patented color theory

Not coming up, came out Tuesday. That's my biggest piece of evidence in thinking it may happen.

What is, the color theory?
Characters with simislar colors will be revealed together...still might hold out in the end..

*crosses fingers for saturday*

I need my dose of beartraps, pendulums, and various firearms.

There's lighting outlines on the character art. According to that "theory", characters that have the same colored outline will be revealed together.
It held true up until yesterday - Frank West shares an outline with Nova, and Phoenix Wright does with Rocket Raccoon. However, Nova and Wright have been revealed, not one of these 2 pairs. Thus, the color theory is BS.

Unless they saved them for tomorow.

Color highlight theory (patented as of NYCC):

Characters who were supposed to be reveal together have the same colored outline.

Strider + Hawkeye = Yellow/green highlight. Revealed with other 2 at SDCC.

Firebrand + Ghost Rider = Blue/green highlight. Revealed with other 2 at SDCC.

Strange + Nemesis = Blue color highlight. Both revealed at Gamescom together

Vergil + Iron Fist = Purple color highlight. Both revealed at TGS together.

Frank and Nova are red, RR + PW are yellow highlight. If they are all revealed by NYCC the color theory will have been proven true. If not then it's proven false.

P.S.: Strider's highlight appears greenish because the highlight is over blue color. Blue + yellow = green.

Capcom has tied me up, skinned me, rolled me in salt, dipped me into the Dead Sea, and then tossed me into a huge salt mine. That's how salty I am about RR not getting revealed.

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

They probably saved Rocket for next, because he'll look much more Dynamic and interesting than Nova... at least I hope ;) For a guy who talks about how powerful he is, he sure looks pretty... straight-forward. It's like Ippatsuman without all the cool looking bonuses. Sure he'll be effective and fun to play, but man, Iron Fist's Dragon Chi Hyper looks more impressive than basically anything Nova does. Skrulls "INFERNO!" also looks about 300 times more impressive and well-rendered than Nova's budget ripoff.

Still hoping to see Frank with some awesomely remade normals, too. Wright / Frank / Spencer for team Plain-with-benefits?

Can someone explain to me why everyones so down on Ironman? I rarely used his 2x jump, well at least not in combos cuz i was so inconsistent with it. And his tri dash is slower?

Maybe i just play Ironman man the "wrong" way *shrugs*

Been hearing musings that one of Iron Fist's rekkas crosses up. Can anyone fool around with him today at CC and see if that has any weight? And maybe see if his dragon kick has any projectile durability.

I play Iron Man the wrong way too, good thing it will be the right way in Ultimate :D

Double jump really isn't an issue.... I mean yea it will be missed but it isn't going to drop him in tiers or usage.

Tri-dash change is huge because it isn't instant/fast like it was before. He pauses and then glides down really obvious and you can easily tag him during it. It's like Nova's tri-dash but there is a new level of depth to it as you can sort of fake or control the tri-dash by arcing it back up and behind the opponent.

Basically Iron Man is "reworked" in the sense that you can't do mad rushdown with him. He has better zoning and easier combos but it's at the expense of quicker rushdown. A lot of people liked Iron Man's older tri-dash and it was different enough from the other tri-dashers. Most people thought Iron Man was going to get solid buffs mostly with no nerfs.

To be honest, I am not that sad anymore because a lot of other dash characters are nerfed too in their mobility/dashes. I am only really salty about Doom who has more health than Iron Man, better mobility, better tools, better damage, better combos, better air throw game, a high priority dive kick leading into full combos, better zoning/specials etc.

Yeah I want to know about this too... I believe it's QCF+H that Seth said crosses up (although I think it's "cross under" like Yun's same move). Special moves like Dragon Kick will most likely only have projectile invulnerability/armor during Blue Chi power up as that power up does in fact absorbs projectiles.

Heck yeah lol i still plan to main em. Im kinda glad his 2x jump is gone...maybe now i can complete his mission mode lol

It's not that his tri dash is slower, he no longer has a tri dash. His air dash now hovers and is a lot slower and more predictable. They have obviously nerf his rushdown game to death and by giving him Storm like hovering and the best flight in the game it seems that he's going to be mainly a keepaway character in UMvC3, having to rely on his runaway to spam beams and bombs.

And double jump is a big issue, I bet Capt Amercia is going to jump up the tier list greatly primary because of his new double jump. Not only is it useful for combos it's also one of the best mixup/reset tools in this game, and also an important tool for escaping pressure in the corner.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind Phoenix Wright's voice? I happen to like that VA and think he sounds good for the part, albeit maybe not as enthusiastic as some would like.

He still has a tri-dash but it's like Nova's. Before swooping down there is a little pause/hover and he dashes down accelerating but unlike his older one you can continue it and arc it upwards to go above and behind the opponent for mix ups.

It's different but it's possible that it has other utilities to it as Seth has been implying.

There's a big difference between an aerial 8 way dash/flight character having a double jump and a completely ground based character having a double jump. The flight character is never going to miss his double jump because he has other superior options but the ground character's only way of mobility is the double jump. Captain America is going to jump up greatly because of the accumulation of all his buffs combined although the double jump is an important part of it. If Iron man drops in tiers... it's not because he lost his double jump. Which other flight characters have double jump? I can't recall any unless you include Dante and his Devil Trigger.

So are the chi power ups ATK up/Meter Build up/Projectile durability? And do they still stack (which i'm not sure they did in the first place)?

Seems like ole Rand will be pretty solid as both point and secondary. I think my day one team will be IF/Dante/Doom or Task/IF/Doom.

lol thats basicly how i play him now, so i guess this is gonna work out for me. Mid screen zoner, and when i have an opportunity, i close in. Come to think of it i rarly used his tri dash...

Yeah but I don't think they stack. The Blue chi is basically the "Defense Up" Chi but the only property we have discovered is that it absorbs fireballs (took in Akuma's air fireball cleanly at the expense of some red life lost).

Good teams. Nice protection and beams for getting inside with doom+dante and Task+doom is a another nice setup...especially considering tasky can dhc into flame pillar after his stuff to get some sick use out of IF.

That theory was accurate enough times that it was probably right, but PR plans change. In the months since the announcement someone at Capcom probably just decided to shuffle around the last couple reveals.

Anytime I tried Iron Man's tri-dash offensively I got blown up real good, so I don't do it either. His nerfs are inconsequential to my current game, and zoning buffs will help me tremendously.

Haha yes! Mission mode will be cake for him now, but they probably should have left the double jump. I was just fine not using it and the more technical folks could enjoy its benefits. I could never quite get his double jump combos right, especially online, just forget it.

If you guys can't do his double jump combos then you aren't going to complete his Mission mode anyway. His Mission#9 is his ground flight based combo that is fairly difficult although even that combo should be easier in UMVC3 thanks to faster flight cancel.
