UMVC3: Phoenix Wright and Nova Revealed!

Haha yes! Mission mode will be cake for him now, but they probably should have left the double jump. I was just fine not using it and the more technical folks could enjoy its benefits. I could never quite get his double jump combos right, especially online, just forget it.

Yep! Same here. Every now & then i can do it but i could never get the reflex down. You play on psn? Maybe we can play sometime.

If you guys can't do his double jump combos then you aren't going to complete his Mission mode anyway. His Mission#9 is his ground flight based combo that is fairly difficult although even that combo should be easier in UMVC3 thanks to faster flight cancel.

Thats what were sayin, im never gonna be able to complete his mission mode on mvc3. Tho i can do his flight stuff all day. I welcome umvc3 ironman with open arms.

Dammit, he's switching the feed already.

Tournament at 2PM eastern.

Seth was showing off the aegis reflector Urien shenanigans in his breakdown or at least trying to. So yes, Nova may be able to pull off some urien bullshit.

EDIT: Uhhhh.... Marvel has left right unblockables. Entire basis behind Logan's bersearker's slash setups.
Those aren't unblockable. As long as you are blocking Wolverine, you're blocking everything.

There are no left/right unblockables in Marvel, just ambiguous cross-ups, which are pretty much just as good.

I think the reason that left/right unblockables work in SF3 is because there's no autoblock at all. MvC3 definitely has autoblock, and once you're in blockstun you're not going to get pushed into something hitting another direction and take full damage.
There you go. The only time Absolute Guard drops in MvC3 is when you Advancing Guard.

Two promised hours of Marvel streaming starting at 2 PM though. Which btw is when exactly?

The only true unblockables in MVC3 are Viper's Focus Attack charged and Taskmaster's Swordmaster skills. Even the high/low set ups aren't true unblockables... they are "hard-to-blockables". You can test this in training mode, set to Block All. The CPU will block everything you throw at it from instant overheads, to cross over set ups to right/lefts and high/lows.

I really wish that Nova's Reflector is some sort of crazy advance guard canceling mechanic where the opponent is trapped between the Reflector and Nova... having to eat mix ups. Although Capcom isn't ballsy enough to do anything like that. I really want the red health sacrifices to be worthwhile.

Dumb drawing I did in honor of yesterday.

Barrier assist seems like it could do fun stuff with X-23. Either way I hope there's synergy between Nova and her. Probably gonna drop Dormammu for Task/X-23/Nova.

To risk people getting pissed at me again.

Marvel on stream for the moment again.

I also see Dorm and teleporters raping Wright as well as primarily air characters as well. Viper as well with her seismos.

Phoenix Wright's gimmick looks to either work extremely well or not at all.

Wow the stream chat really seems to hate Nova.
LOL stream monsters.

If someone like Combofiend picks up Nova and rapes with him everyone will want more of Nova. No one knows anything about him other than some of his moves look like moves of other characters.

Without invincibility frames on Beserker slash.. nope. Maya will own BFFs free
Akuma is going to eat up all the active frames of Maya Barrier and Wolverine will still do B Slash into B Charge full combo. Or dive kick. Wright himself has nothing to stop Wolverine or other top rushdown characters.

Once the hype dies down the reality will sink in.

Not surprising, his design is completely uninspired compared to the rest of the newcomers.

If we're gonna oversimplify things then I can just as easily say that Kirby is a blob iwth eyes :p

I know right funny how it works. Hmmm.

Seriously.

Well, I'll be able to say that I was on the Nova train before he was popular. /hipster

Right now my team is looking like Ironman/Nova/Dorm or Ghostrider. I love me some Dorm, but Ghost rider looks tempting.

I LOVE me some Morg but that airdash nerf really hurts me, i make my local friends so mad with her air dash to j.S, now it seem really unsafe... so im gonna swap her with Nova.

I honestly don't see how Phoenix will find time to do his thing with Dormammu going nuts on him via Purification spam. He's really going to need an assist like Hidden Missiles to lock the opponent down for a while.

Phoenix Wright and his lack of range / mobility is going to get destroyed by Strange - projectile counter, Hidden Missles, Bionic Arm, All teleporting characters.. and he'll lead to the death of many assist characters. I can't wait to pop x-factor and blow up Wright + constant assist character while he's tooling around on the ground looking for evidence to make him a viable character. And don't forget he's got to objection to get into his dark phoenix mode thingy. Have fun getting in against any smart player with mobility. How is Phoenix going to attack and airborne character

You really think so? In the time Akuma is chipping away at Maya, PW can get a piece of evidence then go back into a blockstring. That shit is nowhere close to free when you've got two blocks to go through.

And although there hasn't been the clearest indicator thus far, it looks like Maya indeed has a ton of active frames, enough to keep Akuma at bay for a decent amount of time. In no way does PW get a free shot at evidence either, everything has to be set up, and combine that with an assist PW can call, yeah I'm not giving Wolverine the advantage on this.

It's obviously kind of hard to theory fighter when there are such significant changes to the airborne mechanics anyway. Slower 8-way dashes and not being able to block during any air dash makes AA assists way better now.

Same for C. Viper. Seismo, seismo, seismo.

Nova as well with his lance. MODOK with his cubes. The list just keeps on getting bigger. Hawkeye with his gimlet arrow and him and Task with there arrow rains.

Wright is going to require a lot of work. Forget Viper, and Strange, this guy will have to have one massive team built around him.

EDIT: No that was only the back down airdash that was slowed down. Mistranslated first. IM can now cancel his airdash into flight into repulser or smart bombs as well. Really looking bad.

I haven't seen the footage yet, but Purification got buffed pretty good right? Tell me how to escape!

I think it's pretty obvious you need a team based around PW to use him properly. He should be on point to actually be able to get evidence with assists and keepaway. You can also combo into objection and his super mode, so it's not like "smart players" are immune to him somehow. It's like the polar opposite of the other phoenix who also needs a team built around her.

Dat winscreen pose for Phoenix (Not, Phoenix Wright or Wright, cause fuck Jean Grey) is just so goofy looking.

Is what I've been saying forever, all the things that were crucial to the metagame have been tweaked and have rarely been divulged in for a decent amount of time by any pro players to get even a clear indication of what's good what isn't. And Theorcraft: On Paper Edition is kind of useless.

Though I am inclined to believe like the leaker of PW details said, everyone will probably play Vergil and Nova initially.

Phoenix Wright has a Miles Edgeworth color scheme, confirmed. He even has the frills.
They hinted at a Godot one too on yesterday's stream.

The airdash nerf only refers to back down airdash. Yeah, mistranslated and later translated correctly.

Since Thor's looks quicker.

Wright is going to have tons of problems. Hope for the best but yeah.

Dahbomb said:
He still has a tri-dash but it's like Nova's. Before swooping down there is a little pause/hover and he dashes down accelerating but unlike his older one you can continue it and arc it upwards to go above and behind the opponent for mix ups.

It's different but it's possible that it has other utilities to it as Seth has been implying.

There's a big difference between an aerial 8 way dash/flight character having a double jump and a completely ground based character having a double jump. The flight character is never going to miss his double jump because he has other superior options but the ground character's only way of mobility is the double jump. Captain America is going to jump up greatly because of the accumulation of all his buffs combined although the double jump is an important part of it. If Iron man drops in tiers... it's not because he lost his double jump. Which other flight characters have double jump? I can't recall any unless you include Dante and his Devil Trigger.

I thought Sentinel had a double jump

So, I'm over here trying to bounce between Season's Beatings and potential Ultimate news at CapUnity. Has anything interesting been picked up on here yet?

Nothing we didn't know yesterday. Haven't even seen new characters picked thus far on today's stream since I started watching.
