I honestly don't know the who, what, where, when and why of it all. There are several games that were released extremely quickly, but what I do know is there were a lot of pretty new mechanics in the games for their time. Pushblock is there in the form of tech hits, air guards are there, meter using specials are there(buffed specials), and all kind of crazy mechanics are also in the game(Thanos' bubble probably came from Rikuo/Q Bee's moves and Hsien-Ko's mobility in a fifteen year old game surpasses that of most pixies in MvC3).enzo_gt said:How was it done before?
I think that Niitsuma's team could handle it, honestly. I just get really pissed about their current approach is all. I don't think that anyone else at Capcom should touch it though. Ono can stay the hell away from this game as far as I am concerned.enzo_gt said:Who COULD handle Darkstalkers?
If they try to make anything a comeback mechanic it should be the health regenerating system. It was pretty unique for it's time and I can't think of any modern fighter where healing takes place while you fight(outside of XF lol) with every character. Maybe buff Dark Forces a bit and tweak the healing system so that it works faster and regenerates a bit more.enzo_gt said:I don't think balance is especially what you should fear really, you should fear the comeback/casual mechanic they add into it, and pray your able to turn it off.

kunonabi said:I guess Nitsuma's team is the best choice purely be default. Visually the DS characters made a better transition to MVC3 than I thought they would. They don't seem to have any clue as to what do with them from a gameplay standpoint though. Felicia turned out ok but Lei-Lei is awful and they don't seem to have any real direction with Morrigan.

MvC3 is a clear example of favoritism going completely out of control. This game would've lost it's luster way too quickly had a sequel not been announced. The mid and lower level players can't handle the dumb shit in this game like the pros can and the reactions to characters like Phoenix, Wolverine and the remaining top tier are proof of that.Becquerel said:I think that's mostly because it's MvC not Darkstalkers. For most characters from fighting games, that means buffs, but for Darkstalkers, that means getting toned down a bit, lol. Character transfers don't really work easily, and it appears that the vision Niitsuma had for Hsien-Ko's Mahvel iteration just doesn't work as well as it did in Darkstalkers.
I too think that if anyone is capable of handling a remake of Darkstalkers, it would be Niitsuma and his team. MvC3 is an amazing game, pretty much regarding everything. Aside from the whole "lul vanilla was a beta thing", the game's great, and Niitsuma and his team have been doing a very fine job balancing vanilla originally, and especially Ultimate. Of course, there's always gonna be some questionable decisions and characters who're being left in the dust, but overall? I think Ultimate is going to be one of the most balanced games we've seen so far.
They also made the visuals flashy as hell, and the sound/music is great.

Mephisto(Blackheart's father would be ridiculous) should totally be in this game along with Thanos(throwback). This might happen seeing as they fall more on the comic side of things for Marvel.Becquerel said:Yea, apparently the hell has phones.

Becquerel said:There's still a LOT of classic villains to draw from, and most of them have almost limitless potential. Mephisto, Thanos, Loki, Red Skull, most Brotherhood mutants, Apocalypse, Spidey's rogues gallery... there's so many, lol.

Who are Reverge labs?SolarPowered said:I think that Niitsuma's team could handle it, honestly. I just get really pissed about their current approach is all. I don't think that anyone else at Capcom should touch it though. Ono can stay the hell away from this game as far as I am concerned.
I could totally see ASW making a decent game if given the chance. I don't think they'd purposefully manufacture tiers and they've got more experience with unconventional characters(I think some of the staff that worked on Darkstalkers also moved to work on Guilty Gear too). Reverge labs is doing so much right that I would actually enjoy it if they took a stab at the series as well. A DS game from them would have a much lighter tone, but it would still be DS at the core with solid characters being designed all around.
I agree with kunonabi said here, Darkstalkers translated REALLY well into MvC3 and looked fantastic. Niitsuma's team did an ace job with that. I think the engine would be very good for DS too.SolarPowered said:The game's core doesn't need much outside of a huge visual overhaul(HD 3D models obviously), great online options and fun modes(tag team options and 2v2 options).
This is a good analysis, but noooooooo waaaaaaaaay is it looking likely UMvC3 will be broken as shit in the way MvC3 was. It's true though, MvC3 would've fizzled out in current Phoenix metagame. Looking quite less likely IMO with them attacking the problems dead on. Any side affects of the countermeasures may be a problem though (for instance, if meter stealing/building moves are abused in the new environment through glitches).SolarPowered said:MvC3 is a clear example of favoritism going completely out of control. Pretty much everyone that defended the hell out of the game at the start is now reluctantly admitting that the tools given to the god tier were over the top and it definitely hurt the game in the eyes of non high level players. MvC3 has had it's moments, but it is an extremely flawed game from that standpoint in particular. Whether or not the same problem will repeat itself with Ultimate remains to be seen, but it looks likely. The only saving grace is the fact that the overall system is not as stupid as before.
Gonna require a source for this. He probably has ideas, I doubt they've put much work into it.CPS2 said:Ono's pretty much admitted to having DS in development for a few years, it just hasn't been officially greenlit yet.
I don't know...maybe I'm in the minority here (I don't think I am?), but I thought MvC3 was a pretty well-balanced game considering all the variables that have to go into balancing a 36 character MvC roster. A very large portion of the cast had proved to be tournament viable. Wolverine and Phoenix were the only two S-tier characters that really demanded heavy nerfs (and part of their overpowered nature was a direct result of how effectively they could leverage X-factor - which is another of the many balance variables the team had to take into consideration).SolarPowered said:The FGC has come a really long way haha.
