Uncharted 4 runs at 1080p and targeting 60fps

New generation, new rules. I don't think you can say that because they used prerendered cutscenes in the past, they'd use it again, especially with all this new hardware grunt. I hope they start using real-time cutscenes this time.

I think they almost need to go with pure real-time for the actual game because of storage limitations.

Amazing. Looks really mindblowing in that HQ 1080p60 video.

Still trying to digest this.
Confirmation that ND is made from Naughty Gods.

As much as i love Uncharted and ND with their impressive tech wizardry...

Didnt they also say the same about the UC3 reveal? I mean there was an actual in-engine cinematic in there, and the bits in the lettering at the end was even in-game.

But nothing in the game, be it gameplay or cinematic looked as good as this:

I really hope thats not the case here.

Eh. It looked better.

And when we got this, at launch, on inferior hardware.

This is not all that unbelievable for 2 years later into the console cycle on a more powerful system.

How it looked better? There is not a single real-time scene in U3 that looked better than cutscenes.

The IQ alone in U4 trailer eliminates it from being real-time. Like there is not a single artifact, even from the shaders.
Sure, the trailer is dof'ed to hell, but come on.

Assets though will probably be exactly the same or very similar ingame, 80k polys is not that much, so Drake's model will probably look the same in-game.
Just overall gameplay will have worse shadows, shaders, post-processing and worse IQ.
I dont think we will see dramatic difference in lighting like in PS3 ND's games between cutscenes and gameplay.

If the order devs can pull it off I have no doubt ND can pull this off. Last E3 everyone had the same debate about the order. And the game delivered graphics wise at least.

Bah, if this is not the graphic i'm getting for a 2nd year 1st party game on next gen by a tech wizard studio like ND, i would be a little disappointend to be honest.

I'm surpised by the 60fps tentative.Really unexpected.

I think that when Sony Santa Monica will show their game eyes will meld.

I am dissapointed that I did not get a proper look of how this game looks in gameplay.

Yes yes I know.... it is real time. But it is a real time cutscene and judging by both LoU and Uncharted graphic fidelity in cutscenes is quite large in comparison to actual gameplay.

Yes the game will look unbelievably good. better than anything else. But not like what we see here.

Also... that 1080p and 60 fps make me think that the game will keep its linear environments and I was hoping for a next gen overhaul with more open environments.

Still I can hope for the impossible. Only Naughty Gods can do it after all

"bu-bu- the cinematic look"

Kind of amazing when they can pull off those graphics with 60fps. Hoping that the cutscenes will be realtime as well (which is possible since they already talked how the 1080p 60fps cutscenes in TLOU remaster are almost too big for the blu-ray disc space, so they'd be forced to go realtime or split it on two discs))

I'm really surprised to, cause by ND logic, they will try to make everyone crazy with their graphics, and that means crazy environment and assets, tropical jungle.. Not that the PS4 is not powerfull but. yeah that's a luxry to have 60 fps, they must be certain they have enough margin to make something that looks perfect like that.

I remember all those ND reveals in the past on PS3... One thing I'm sure of is that their future games will look even better and I'd bet on it.

That was a pre-rendered cutscene, though. The screen went black shortly before and after that scene (and the other cutscenes).

I think they will explore Nathan Drake's perpetual selfishness. At always getting his friends involved in these adventures, knowing the risk of life and limb. Sully practically left Nathan alone in uncharted 2 after he saw how serious things were getting. And yet Nathan is dragging him back!

On top of that, the tone of the trailer to me is suggesting something happens, Sully is probably in some sense removed from the picture, and Nate is either out for revenge or to save him.

I'd like if they explored Nathan Drake's extreme insensitivity to those around him when he gets obsessed with some treasure.

I would hate if they kill off Sully. I don't want them to kill off Drake either, but I'll accept him sacrificing himself to save Sully.

(I also don't want the series to end - one per generation would be enough for me)

As I posted in the other thread:

"In game" does not mean "gameplay".

As with all of ND's PS3 games, it looks like this is a cutscene rendered in-engine with higher quality assets. It may or may not be prerendered. But the actual gameplay models have never matched the ones seen in cutscenes.

I'd like to be proven wrong, but there's no reason to believe that this is any different than their standard operating procedure.

The Last of Us remaster uses the cinematic models in game (same as the Order: 1886) that's two reasons to believe the PS4 might be different.

I don't like the recent over-use of the word 'targeting'. Surely everyone is targeting the highest fps they can get, but it ends up as a trade-off between effects and frame rate. I want a 'confirmed' 60fps or 'guaranteed' 60fps. Targeting means nothing.

Notice the carefully worded "captured from a PS4". Yes it looks great, but is it in-game? The cinematics in previous titles were in-engine rendered video... "Captured from a PS4" is a bit meaningless.

I hope this isn't the last uncharted game. but rather the last uncharted game for a while. We probably don't need another one till next gen imo, let ND work on new IP + TLOU2.

I'd rather see them target a solid 30 with no dips with the visual fidelity of the teaser piece. I'm not going to believe any of what I saw, before I see it. But I will say that I like the look of the older Nate.

You could say it will be in game, but not when you're actually playing it. Gameplay footage is always a dowgrade from 'in-game' cut scenes.

I'll get my hopes up for it being a great game, going by ND's past, but I'll remain reserved until I see some actual gameplay footage. And I certainly won't get my hopes up for absolutely amazing visuals, in 1080p running at 60fps. No fucking way.

They certainly know how to get the fans riled up though.

Please stop with " in engine " " CGI " " ingame " " not ingame ".

What we saw yesterday is that we will have in the cinematics when you will have The game in your console. No less no more.

Why would you prefer to see the same visual quality at 30fps instead of 60fps. Variation betweem 55-60 fps is much better than locked 30fps. It is only when it goes below 50 that judder is really apparent and irritating. Which is why Digital foundry called out for a locked option incase of KZSF but said TR PS4 ( which varied between 50 -60 )is better than TR Xboxone ( which was locked 30fps) because the higher framerate undeniably makes for better responsiveness and gameplay.

Having said the above I would not mind if they enhance the visuals and lock it at 30.
