United States Election: Nov 6, 2012 |OT| - Barack Obama Re-elected

Can the House GOP really block Puerto Rico's application for statehood after Mitt Romney said he'd accept the outcome of the referendum? It doesn't seem tenable politically, but at the same time it won't play well with their base and makes their electoral math even worse (it should have 5 EVs-2 Senate and 3 House seats).

Some interesting reactions:

Perhaps nowhere was the joy so simply expressed as at Jakarta's Menteng 01 Elementary School, where a statue of the young Obama stands outside the school in tribute to its most famous alumni.
Jubiliant students happily marched with a poster of the president from one classroom to another after hearing that he had won a second term: "Obama wins ... Obama wins again," they shouted. "I want to be like him, the president," said student Alexander Ananta.

Though Iranian media have long said the country saw little difference between Obama and Romney on tensions over Tehran's nuclear program, that did not stop the semiofficial Fars news agency for rolling out the vivid headline, "Republican's elephant crushed by Democrat's donkey."

I really hope we can see this strain with Iran relieved a bit over the next four years.

So Obama got Florida, Virginia, and Ohio huh? I kinda wish these states came in earlier. Would have made victory so much sweeter.

I don't think they'd block it, necessarily. It'd be interesting to see how their party breakdown would fall into place. I don't believe it would necessarily be a Democratic caucus.

I haven't checked in a while, but I'm pretty sure PR is quite socially conservative. That should spell out the rest for you right there, lol.

Could only stay up to about 12:30am EST so I'm just now catching up.

-Fuck yes, my state (FL) went blue! I didn't think it was going to happen. VA, OH, CO, and every other swing state as well? I'd call that a fucking mandate!

-Nate Silver made a name for himself calling 49/50 states last go around, and this time he's 50/50. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of pundits and their media spin/narrative bullshit.

-Tea party candidates in Missouri, Indiana, Massachusetts, UTAH!?, and FL (haha fuck you Allen West), decimated! Bachmann lives fight another day sadly. Democrats easily keep control of the senate and will finally (God I hope ) abolish the filibuster.

Hopefully Republicans will learn to moderate some of their positions after this, but honestly as long as there is a black man named Barack HUSSEIN Obama in the whitehouse, I don't see that happening.

So what happens to the republican party now? They went all the way crazy to get the Tea Party vote and it didn't work out. Do they backtrack to the (American) centre to try and win back the moderates?

All these people tweeting about leaving the US because Obama won.

I assume the appropriate words would be "good riddance?"

GG Obama GG Nate Silver.

On the ... pretty much only, bright side, pot legal in Colorado and Washington and gay marriage in 2 states too so that's at least a good trend. But 4 more years of the exact same make up? Obama and roughly the same house/senate? Plus Elizabeth Warren?! I think Fauxcahontas is the deepest cut of them all.

They're going to get a serious shock when every other country thinks they're dumb morons and that those countries also have a love things like "obamacare".

It all depends on their ability to swallow their pride. What they should do is ditch the Rove tactics, which may have been useful in the short term, but have only created a monster that cannot sustain itself and grows more and more embarrassing after every election cycle. They need to wake up and realize their base is dying off (senior citizens) and get back into the domain of actual conservatives (David Frum, Andrew Sullivan, and other so-called "RINO"s).

100% of the precincts reporting in North Datoka. Barring a recount, Heitkamp wins. Nate was wrong (in a good way):

Heidi Heitkamp
Dem. 160,752 50.5%

Rick Berg
Rep. 157,758 49.5%

And with 82% reporting, it also looks like Jon Tester will win in Montana, again proving Nate wrong (in a good way):

Jon Tester
Dem. 201,175 48.3% Incumbent

Denny Rehberg
Rep. 188,552 45.2%

Dan Cox
Lib. 27,092 6.5%

Assuming King caucuses with the Democrats, this is a 55/45 split, meaning a 2-seat gain for the Democrats and a much more liberal caucus.

Well you can see the commentators already trying to get them to appeal to Latinos. There will be people in the party who'll fight tooth and nail to stop that from happening.

I say they go even crazier.

I'm going to listen to Rush Limbaugh today to hear him say, "I co..."- No, I'm not, why ruin a beautiful day? It will sunny and cool with blue skies here.
It will be cold, dark, and dank in Limbaugh land.

You and I both know they're going to go even more extreme. I think Obama should just disregard them and do what he wants to do. He doesn't have to worry about winning another election again.

I'm floored by how many Republican's are bringing religion into this. "Oh, we have abandoned God! We are all sinners!"

Kind of scary and right in line with some of the Muslim extremists they claim to hate.

So "anyone but Romney" during the primaries was not just a little triffling thing in the end

In the end it was more like "We're fucked either way, thanks Dems and Reps, so who cares anymore". Which is my sentiment. We got the lesser of two evils I guess though. With Romney we would've collapsed like a controlled demolition. With Obama we'll just look like a pond of stagnant, still water, just with much more slimy green stuff collecting.

Maybe next election they'll wake up and give us someone worth voting for that you can actually put hope and faith behind to actually give us a proper "change" we were promised in which we still won't see after these additional 4 years.

Here's my good deed for the day before I go to bed: Bublo was referring to Obama. This makes sense when you realise that Bulbo is a pretty nutty conservative. He was, at one point, quite supportive of the Birther movement

oh lol. sorry Bulbo, I didn't mean to rub salt in those wounds. As a european I don't really understand the Republican mindset, its all very strange to us, candidates like Romney tend to get like 10% of the vote or less.

I'm leaving too.
The big problem for conservatives is the lack of free, non-socialist countries in the world. We were the last remaining bastion of freedom. We can't just pack our bags and move to Canada. Plus they have bagged milk.

No problem. I'm not bitter. I've suffered for 4 years under oppressive socialism so now I can understand your mindset better. It's the initial stage of giving up my freedom that was difficult.
