Since republicans pretty much own the Midwest, if they could get some republicans a little less far right and appeal to blue states on reasonable issues like the right to choose (can be pro choice without being pro abortion), civil rights and immigration, the. I think a republican ticket can win easily. Too bad they always so extreme in their platform with little to no compromise, and therefore alienate anyone not in complete agreement

I keep seeing this embarrassingly stupid mistake. I made this simple picture to educate those people unfamiliar with both "maps" and "facts."

I bet Jefferson would have taken one look at modern technology and we would never see him again. He would be in a maintenance shop somewhere.
Washington would hit up Affordable Dentures right away.
And Lincoln would stop by the Mens Wearhouse on his way to meet with Republican leaders.
Jefferson would be sending one of his slave drivers after Obama with a collar and chains. The dude argued that black people were descended from a white woman being impregnated by a chimp and argued that freed slaves did not have the mental or emotional capacity to plan more than one night in advance.

He also turned down an offer to pay off his debt in exchange for freeing his slaves and commented on how effective the child slaves were after they had been whipped

The fact that any school child can use the Pythagorean Theorem doesn't change the fact that Pythagoras was a pretty smart dude for coming up with it in the first place, nor does it make the theorem any less useful or important in the future.

I'm getting really tired of your pro Pythagoras propaganda.

This thread is finally slowing down. The gloating is over.
Time to get on to serious matters like a Benghazi investigation and the fiscal cliff.

The Republicans need to ease up with the Benghazi stuff. Though there may be some serious stuff that happened, the Republicans really need to put it aside and begin to attempt to mend the bridge with Obama. A sign of good will. I think Obama is a reasonable man when faced with reasonable people proposing reasonably solutions.

Make some cuts to social programs...Raise some taxes (and reform some tax code stuff)...Eff, how hard is this?

Edit: And y'all ease up on Jefferson, Washington, and Abe...Times were very different then. Some of Inthe ideas they put in place (especially Jefferson) are still very relevant today. The Freedom and Power of the Individual. Pretty radical thinking for 1776.

Sure you can look back through hundreds of years of social evolution and judge them saying that are awful people, but it was those "awful" people who came up with the idea of the United States...rebeled against a king, set up a democracy, wrote a constitution that allows for changes because they knew they didn't know everything, and proposed that the individual rules.

My guy came in third! WooHoo!

So I didn't understand how electoral voting worked in the US and I started searching. Found this video and if true, it's a pretty flawed system that should be replaced

Except in this case the Democrat won.
One of his mistakes was saying he'd absolutely raise taxes as I understand, but I also think we have the advantage of hindsight, and Mitt Romney didn't quite have Reagan's charisma. More of us probably understood Reaganomics has no future whereas that probably wasn't fully grasped at that time when it seemed as if it might've been a legitimate path. Not to mention the modern prevalence of the internet.

A video with an agenda says we should get rid of the electoral college? No way.
Can you point to anything in it that's actually untrue, though?

He could have swung those numbers at the end to be even more in his favor than he actually did if he adjusted turnout numbers by state.

From a list of winners and losers in the election:

Kid Rock pledged his allegiance to Mitt Romney once again on Monday night when the Republican presidential candidate hit up Manchester, New Hampshire, for a final rally ahead of Election Day on Tuesday (November 6).

The singer hit the stage to perform his track, "Born Free," which the Romney campaign adopted early on as its theme song. According to ABC News, the Detroit-bred rocker stood on top of a piano and performed the track as Romney made his way to the podium to meet his supporters before they headed to the polls.

Who still listens to him?

* Young voters: Long the butt of jokes about their lack of participation in the political process, the 18- to 29-year-old set made a major statement in the 2012 campaign. One of the most amazing stats of the 2012 election is that young voters made up a LARGER percentage of the total electorate (18 percent in 2008, 19 percent in 2012) than they did four years ago. And while Obama’s margin wasn’t as large among that youthful age group as it was four years ago, he still carried 18- to 29-year-olds by 24 points. We are, we are the youth of the nation — indeed.

* Bill Clinton: Aside from President Obama, did anyone have a better 2012 campaign than Bubba? He was the star of the Democratic National Convention and the most valuable surrogate for Obama in swing states in the final week(s) of the campaign. For someone who loves politics in a gut way, Clinton was in his glory during this race. And, is there ANY doubt he is going to want to stay in the mix? Like, in 2016 as the leading surrogate for his wife’s presidential campaign? We’re not saying, we’re just saying.

Some other good items in the article from the Washington Post.

You need an agenda to tell you that the EC is bogus?

Everyone's vote should matter equally and should be the deciding factor - not the electoral.

Unless, of course, you don't favor equality.

I wanted to stand up and applaud. I wish conservatives would put forth a real candidate.

It was magnificent. And what she suggested was not unreasonable, but the Republicans have been racing to the bottom for a long time, tailoring their message to the worst in people and it shouldn't be like that.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Republicans can feel free to blame Sandy and all kinds of other nonsense. It just means they won't learn or adapt and will lose 2016.
