I don't think Sansa will do much outside of be a pawn. And I must admit I enjoy trolling her fans more than any character. No character has done less and worst yet gained as much love as her IMO... :p

Rickon being alive + massive snow storm seems to invalidate LF's plan to crown her. On the other hand the arrival of Aegon opens quite a possibility for LF to offer a marriage alliance; I wonder if he'll guess Varys is behind Aegon. Plus this could allow another case of history repeating itself, with a Targ causing trouble by pursuing a Stark.

Seriously, her chapters have become a lot more interesting because she's hanging out with LF but she's still the same character she was when everyone hated her.

Robb's dead
Jon's sworn to the Night's Watch
Bran and Rickon are presumed dead and too young to resurface as claimants to the North
Arya is missing/dead and again too young

Sansa IS the key to the North. She's been a big victim and made some naive mistakes, but she HAS been learning how to play the game of thrones from Cersei, Joffrey, Tyrion, Margaery, Olenna, Littlefinger, etc.

She's the most political of the Starks due to the nature of her situation.

Don't worry, the trailers have generally shown the same footage with different music and voice-overs each time.

If I hear "The Lannisters aren't the only ones who pay their debts" or "They can live in my new world... OR DIE IN THEIR OLD ONE" one more time I may scream.

I would bang a hot farmer!
For reasons beyond me, a significant number of people seem to be violently opposed to using subs.
I won't feel sorry for anyone coming in here by accident. The thread titles are different enough this year that they shouldn't make that mistake.

Totally forget when this happened in the book and now i'm drawing a blank.

Anyone remind me when this happened?

There's a scene in the book where Tyrion has a sudden revelation that it was Joffery who sent the assassin after Bran. Don't know how they'll handle it in the show, since it all plays out in his head and he never talks about it with anyone, as far as I remember.

It was Joffrey trying to impress his 'Dad' Robert. Robert says something when he's drunk about crippled people should have mercy, so Joffrey was desperate to please Robert and actually followed through with it. In a conversation between Cersei and Jaime.

Ah okay. I feel like he pieced it together right around his (Tryion's) wedding for some reason)

I meant the revelation that it was Joff. But thanks though.

edit missed this one:

I believe Tyrion calls him out on it subtly/alludes to it when he gives him the "Lives of Four Kings" wedding gift.

Okay so I was right in thinking it was around Tyrion's wedding.

^ I believe that's why we got an older Tommen this time around.

Actually, Tyrion knows it when Joffrey says he's no stranger to Valyrian Steel, after he's given Widow's Wail as a wedding gift.

IIRC, Joffrey says something at the breakfast before the royal wedding that makes Tyrion realize that it was him in a wildly misguided attempt to please Robert.

HBO's order is GoT - Silicon Valley - Veep starting Sunday.
So excited. Don't know what I'm going to do starting the 13th though...

I think the show will reveal the Bran assassin with a conversation between Cersei and Jaime as they can have a conversation about it, rather than a singular scene with Tyrion - or maybe all three of them.

But do show watchers still remember the whole Bran assassination/dagger plot line? Probably will require a 'previously on' intro. I hope D & D do clear it up same with the Arryn murder.

Hmm yeah... It does seem unlikely that someone would not think the Lannisters killed Jon Arryn at this point.

It seems more unlikely that people even remember who Jon Arryn is. :p I can see the revelation at the end going right over people's heads, unless we're reminded who he is.

TV Stoneheart won't be half as cool as Books Stoneheart. TV Catelyn never destroyed her face.

Could easily be some postmortem vandalism by the Freys or her increasing madness when she wakes up. I do think she'll probably be less severe though, just to give the makeup guys an easier job.

- Sepinwall interview with D&D
The job of running any of today’s ambitious cable drama series is hard, but “Game of Thrones” bosses David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’s jobs come with an added degree of difficulty, because they’re adapting a series of beloved, enormous books by George R.R. Martin. So they have to mostly stay faithful to Martin’s stories, and that means incorporating dozens of significant characters, and almost that many separate plots that take place across two different continents, with characters sometimes spending whole seasons just traveling from one location to another. And because of the production logistics involved in filming the HBO drama in multiple countries, Benioff and Weiss say they can realistically only make 10 episodes a season. So even if they’re taking two seasons to cover a particular book — as they are with the third book, “A Storm of Swords,” which will span the third and upcoming fourth season of the show — they have to be very judicious in how much time any one story gets in an episode, or a season.

I’ve seen the first several episodes of season 4, which debuts Sunday night at 9 on HBO, and they’re very strong. I think the denseness of the source material is always going to be a limiting factor to the show, but there are so many strong individual moments and sequences early on that are also a reminder of how much great material the books give Benioff and Weiss to work with.

In advance of the season, I got to interview several of the actors in person (look for those over the next few days), and I emailed Benioff and Weiss a few questions about how they’re approaching things at this point.

- Variety Review
To quote an old song, talking about “Game of Thrones” to the uninitiated is like trying to tell a stranger about rock ‘n roll. For those intoxicated by its debaucherous pleasures, though, the show’s return is something to be celebrated – “Winter is Coming” a favorite way of heralding in the spring. As has become almost a pattern, the fourth season begins somewhat slowly – juggling a dizzying assortment of existing characters, while introducing new ones – punctuated by major events, serving notice nobody lives forever. Even when the pace drags, George R.R. Martin’s creation is consistently as big and brawny as television gets.

I just hope that they are able to salvage Stannis character in this season. Not only the shows lack the inner monologue that shows him not buying the whole R'llor crap at all (that's comprensible), but the whole decision of getting to the Northern wall being yet another case of him obeying the Red Witch demolished his character. One of my most disliked changes that the show made.

As for who should sit in the Throne...

Daenerys: Entitled self righteous teenage girl with no ruling skills or whatsoever, yet witht the Westeros equivalent of nuke warheads under her control. Oh, and she's probably going to arrive allied with the Ironborn. Big huge dose of NOPE here.

Cersei: Ahahahaha, oh, wow. This isn't going to happen. She's going to loos the judgement by trial. Frankengregor fighting for her VS Cleagane fighting for the Faith. She will be killed by the Valonqar, indeed. Albeit "executed" would be the appropiate correct term.

Jon Snow: We would all like for Jon Snow to rule as a King. But Azor Azahi reborn? I'm not so sure of that. If Catelin's resurrection is any indication, we might not like his new persona at all.

The mummer's dragon: Well, no reader truthly likes him because he's just a newcomer that we feel no attachment to. But he is indeed the most qualified to occupy the throne, that's for sure. He got the right education, mindset and advisers. So of course Martin will fuck him up for good :p

Sansa: She's got the North's loyalty, she's learning about politics with the best teacher ever, she controls the most fertile, peaceful region of the Seven Kingdoms. She will either rule as a Queen in the North or she will sit at the Iron Throne sooner or latter. I could even vision an "Ice Queen VS Fire Queen" type of final conflict between Sansa and Daenerys before the white walkers pours from the North.

Stannis: Probably the most decent King of the lot. I am however unsure about how the hell he could rettain the loyalty of his subjects once the "new true kings" show up. Either way, they guy's got "doomed cause" written all over.

WITH FIRE

AND BLOOD

I think so far I watched only one season 4 trailer but the season 3 trailer had Dany screaming I WILL TAKE WHAT IS MINE WITH FIRE AND BLOOD so many times I still can hear it in my head, a year later

If Jon is revealed to be Rhaegars son wouldn't he have better claim than Dany for the iron throne?

I can see Jon on the throne at the end. He has claim to the north and the throne. Plus he could get help from Arya and Bran. Who I think are the two major wildcards for anyone in the series.

If Jon is a Targaryen marries Dany, they could rule together, as both their claims are very strong. If he isn't a Targaryen, he would still be Robb's heir, and could unite the North to the rest of Westeros by marrying Dany.

Jon would be Rhaegar's bastard at best. He won't just be revealed to be Rhaegar's son and stroll on to the Iron Throne, it's going to be harder won than that.

Most R+L=J fans believe that they were married. Polygamy was the norm, not the exception, among the Targaryens. Maegor I had nine wives, and most had two or three. It's unlikely that the Kingsguard would be sent to defend the prince's mistress, and not his wife.
