You think that me finding some of the actions of the characters in the videos so far distasteful is me being puritanical? It really isn't, unless your definition of 'puritanical' is very different to mine.
In the context of how it's presented in this game? Yeah, absolutely. Major overreaction.
How can you see that incredibly over the top trailer and ask "why does a fighting game need x?"
And I'm not sure what exactly you're referring to when you ask if its widely accepted in Japan, but I'm going to say this trailer wouldn't raise any eyebrows. Will it sell a lot? No. But that doesn't mean people find it distasteful or wrong. There's a major difference between not liking something and calling it problematic.
And this conversation will end with someone calling everyone who sees no problem with it a creepy pervert or worse and derail the hell out of this thread, so I think we should stop right here and agree to disagree.
But there are no other multiplat/Vita games that NISA could localize other than Exist Archive and New Dangan 3. Dangan is coming in Q3 in Japan so that one is probably late 2016/2017 for west. Kadokawa stuff are also coming to west, but they say development is just started for both, so they will take some time too.
There are 3 already released Vita games awaiting for localization from NIS: Yomawari, Operation Babel and Criminal Girls 2 and 3 upcoming games: Hero Must Die, Rose and the Old Castle and Coven and the Labyrinth of Refrain. I'm guessing there will be 2 of them at the next month's conference: Yomawari and Criminal Girls 2. If we're lucky we'll get Babel too, but I'm not counting on that one.
as far as exist archive goes, well there are other companies with ties to spike chunsoft. atlus, for instance, worked on etrian mystery dungeon with them and conception ii was a big success as well.
if you're looking at just nisa, they're probably bringing the most vita stuff this year, but it won't be exclusive outside of maybe yomawari (that game is teeny-tiny). expect way more ps4/psv stuff and psv/steam stuff from now on. danganronpa should have been the indication of where things were headed.
also i think new danganronpa 3 is next year. those games take time and there's not even a date for japan as far as i'm aware.
I agree with you there, happy to disagree rather than ruin the thread with a tedious, well-trod argument, moving on.
Hey, I've been pretty damn supportive of the other hundreds of Vita games in Fady's threads (and others) over the last two years. I suppose everyone has a kneejerk reaction now and then, so sorry, will wind my neck in.
Soo... Who's up for Crypt of the Necrodancer and the EU release of Trails of Cold Steel then? Good week for my Vita!

i really have no clue. they might be doing it if persona 5 falls through again, and they do have a relationship with aquaplus i assume they would like to keep strong. on the other hand, any visual novel is a lot of text, and this one is a weird one in that it's the sequel to a porn game from ten years ago, apparently ends on a cliffhanger, and will be followed by a game that resolves the storylines of both the first and second game.

Do you mean that they'll be porting games to PS4 for western release or they just won't bother picking up any internal NIS titles? Since the majority of stuff announced so far is Vita-only in Japan.

If we assume Dangan 3 is a 2017 game, there is only one game left to fit in that category: Exist Archive. NISA's event is next month, most plausible list of games to be announced there is: Exist Archive, Yomawari and Criminal Girls 2. If you think Exist could be in Atlus's alley, then that event will be full of Vita exclusive NISA games.

Same as Tears to Tiara 2. It was a direct sequel to first game but their stories weren't that connected to each other. I expect Utawarerumono and Dungeon Travelers 2-2 to be in Atlus's schedule this year. Hopefully 7th Dragon too.
Yep, I feel like that would be a great day to switch. Any other demos I should try at the same time (it's been about 8 months since the last time I switched)?

XSEED haven't missed a Ys game in ages, and the next one has a PS4 SKU for Japan. I'd say it's as certain a localization as can be without them actually being confirmed.
So clearly Koei Tecmo Europe misunderstood a question that people were asking in regards to voice dlc for Escha&Logy+ and instead made a comment about Nights of Azure since they've been talking about it a lot today.

@BlitzPancake @LichGrey We have to wait until the PS4 version is out and we also have to make sure the quality is at its best for the PSV.

Take from it what you will, but that sounds like the Vita version is on their radar.

I've asked several times on several threads, but I don't think anyone around here bought the Vita version. I wanted to know if it's been patched after the release and fixed the graphics and framerate.

I'd honestly like to know too since looking around online doesn't come up with anything. I mean surely they had to have pushed something for the Vita version, right?

Gonna assume you mean NISA won't be the ones bringing Exist Archive over, which is unfortunate since they pretty much always include dual audio. If it's Atlus, the chances are a low lower.

do you mean two games? i don't know if criminal girls 2 will be announced at the event. some other vita games, maybe, but i doubt they'd be exclusive. also, steam is going to be a big deal for them. i expect more on that front over time.

REMEMBERING Iconoclasts? That implies somebody could somehow FORGET Iconoclasts. This is impossible, because Iconoclasts is one of the most interesting looking indie games of 2016
2017?
.
Eventually playing Iconoclasts on my Vita is the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning.
Do you think this is going to be another quiet year for them then, and it's mainly going to be comprised of Steam releases?
Because I remember a while ago when we were talking about 2015, you said they didn't need to release as many games on the whole because they a tentpole title with Disgaea 5 and some decent stuff alongside it with DanganRonpa & Rodea.
And that this year didn't have a tentpole title, so you'd expect more releases from them.
Because looking for PS4's released and upcoming games, there's very, very little I could see that's possible for them to pick up outside of the aforementioned games (Exist Archive which you don't think is going to them and Grand Kingdom which is already picked up). Literally everything else for PS4 is pretty much earmarked by other publishers, if it's going to come at all. And there's not much in the near future to change that either.
So unless they spend the whole year doing nothing but porting their old games to Steam, or making a sudden switch to picking up 3DS titles, I'd say they're going to have to at least put out some Vita exclusive stuff for the time being unless they're sitting around waiting for PS4 games to materialize for later in the year.

@BlitzPancake @LichGrey updated info, because we don't release this in EU, the only way is to create US PSN acc to download the DLC.

They'll improve the quality of the Vita version? I'm surprised. From what I saw, it's not that bad actually. Dynasty Warriors 8, Atelier Meruru/Totori and Ar Nosurge had worse framerate dips. This one tries to keep framerate stable by dropping the resolution. And that's ok by me.

The framerate wasn't really that big of an issue for it, it was more of just how much they toned down the graphics settings on it. We've had multiple action rpgs at this point that look superior to it and are able to hold a stable framerate most of the time, most of which likely had just as much if not less budget than this. I mean I'd understand it if it were the PS3 version that they put less effort into, but the Vita version actually sold the most out of all 3 versions. Surely they could have put just a little more polish into it when it was clear how it was going to sell.

Oh, well currently Vita only stuff as Vita/Steam, either immediately or some time after, is fine. I've come to expect that since every localization house apart from Atlus have committed to it. No complaints with that. At least we get the games!
What PS4 stuff are you referring to? Because literally, flicking through a list of released and with-release-date games I'm drawing a blank. Sure, there's stuff announced but barely shown like Kadokawa's games, but thata coming West no time soon.
Sorry if I appear contrary btw, I am very interested in your perspective on this.
confirm that the japanese version will come with english subtitles as well? Do you have a handy contact email where I can send a press review code request once the game has a set release date?
As a new recent lover of the Vita and started on fighters competitively with Skullgirls, I've been really hyped for this release.
Im not sure if this has been answered, but are the backgrounds static or animated for the Vita version? Are the button's remappable? Thanks for putting out a Vita release!
edit: I forgot to watch the video! Ignore my background question
It's not as crisp as the console versions, but I still think it looks pretty good.
The sprites are half the res of the console versions. There's some stair-stepping because the screen is 75% of 720p, but this is the best performance/visual balance we could find.
For performance purposes we had to use 2D backgrounds, remove the point lighting effects and reduce the sprite smoothing to reach an acceptable frame rate.
The port took a while because what we do to make SG look the way it does does not really agree well with the Vita hardware. The way we use shaders and lighting, in particular, really stressed the system so it took a fair amount of work to work around those limitations.

Backgrounds are using the static 2D option from the PC version. We really wanted to keep the 3D backgrounds, but the performance hit just wasn't worth it.
The only stage that I think really suffers from this, I think, is Robo-Fortune's train stage since that was the only really "animated" stage in the game.
And the buttons are remappable, and we have front-screen macros to help with the lack of L2/R2, as well.

Awesome job on the Vita port of Skull Girls! Can't wait to give it a try. Question on the PS TV front....does it support PS3/PS4 sticks? Not that I really need it since I have both the triple and quad, but it would be a pretty cool addition!

I know that as AniHawk is saying there are PS4 games in the works, I wouldn't doubt it, but I agree with Kresnik, I can't exactly think of PS4 games up on NISA's plate, unless they're going with the route of publishing mobile/PC games on the PS4 like Republique.
But even then, they're all multi-plat with Vita and PS3 so far. I guess what he's saying is that NISA would rather go after those games because of a PS4 version than the Vita exclusives. Bummer.
