I treat cops the same way I treat anyone I think is prone to irrational violence. I avoid them and limit my interactions when forced to talk to them. I do not feel safer when a cop car is tailing me for 3 miles. I do not feel safer when I see one sitting at the front door of my over night walmart. I'm mostly white and I don't feel safe around these people.
There was a story I saw about a kid with a dash cam who was pulled over by a cop. The cop got all up in his face, the kid was being an ass, and threatened to ruin his life. He only calmed down when he spotted the camera equipment. During the investigation the cop's dash cam went 'missing'.
The problem is that it's a monopoly. There is only one law enforcement group to turn to when you need help. No competition to do a better job. No customer service. The things that we all agree on that make companies work for their customers, are the same things missing from this branch of the public sector.
