You don't argue with a cop? Why? All they can do is arrest you, then watch as the charges will be dropped by the DA.

This type of mindset is exactly why the police has so much power and abuse it. They expect you to do whatever they say, because people like you just cave into them with no questions asked. If more people stood up for themselves, like this brave lady, then police wouldn't abuse their power so much.

I hope she sues the police department, because the arrest is a violation of her rights.

It is illegal to film a police officer in some states and the reasoning behind makes sense.

Here in Chicago, CPD officers are required to live within city boundaries. These officers tend to go to work covering their uniform with baseball jerseys. It's quite common to hear that a police officers car was vandalized after criminals discover who the car belongs to.

Houses also make for attractive homes to break into by burglars seeing as they contain guns in this relatively gun free city.

I would imagine filming police is illegal because the video can be used by criminals to later target police officers and their family.

There is no justifiable reason why it should ever be illegal to video tape an on-duty police officer. The only people who benefit by such laws are corrupt cops or cops who break the law during their encounters with the public.

Didn't you read the anecdote? It's obvious these cops that walk around in broad daylight wearing badges and uniforms need their identities kept hidden. Someone may see them with the gun and the badge and the uniform and the cruiser and the tazer and the radio and not realize they are cops until they see a recording of them doing... errrr... cop stuff.

Ok tough guy, see how that mindset works out for you next time you encounter a cop. She wasn't sounding so brave when she started blubbering tears after realizing the cop wasn't playing her stupid game.
 
In the video they told everyone to back away, to leave and move away, so the dude bounces. In the statement they say that he was fleeing the scene?

Also, if they just shot and killed a suspect, why did the cops think that this man was a suspect as well? Were they not sure about the first one - and just shot him to be safe? Or like, did they think that dude got out of the car, and started booking it?

As far as bogus statements go, I have a LOT of trouble understanding this one. Couldn't they have thought of a better one? Fuck, I mean you can SEE everything that happened on the camera, you can't just jedi mind trick your way out of that shit.
 
God their carefree attitude to pointing a gun at someone is ridiculous, the way he was just pointing it at them was like a gangster in a mugging or something, fucking disgraceful.

Video was scary, damn. Normally I err to defending police actions, but that was messed up. I don't think it should EVER be illegal to film police actions. Accountability is fucking crucial to stopping corruption.

I strongly disagree. Lets take a look at the pay for some police officers, shall we? This list below doesn't even link higher ranking officers either. Paying more won't get you better and more qualified people as you suggest. Paying more probably means you get people who want to more work because of the big overtime pay, and are probably tired and overworked.

I strongly disagree. Lets take a look at the pay for some police officers, shall we? This list below doesn't even link higher ranking officers either. Paying more won't get you better and more qualified people as you suggest. Paying more probably means you get people who want to more work because of the big overtime pay, and are probably tired and overworked.

Totally agree with the pay thing like I said in my post. Bet a big cause of still thinking they are underpaid is from movies/tv shows. Application/hiring process is pretty extensive. Would think that would weed out a lot of the crazies. .
 
Well that video was a rollercoaster to watch.

From horror of knowing what's coming, to disgust of seeing it happen, to serious rage at power tripping cops to one short moment of joy when you remember he managed to get that footage online.

I hope they all get charged for first degree murder, then the idiot who took the phone getting charged seperately for threatening the guy with a gun and trying to hide evidence.

What ever happened to those in power being held responsible for their actions.

As much as people want them too, the "good" cops will never, ever stand up for the wronged citizen. Police are a brotherhood. One cop violates that trust circle, he'll be shit on for the rest of his career. No one would ever want to be that cop's partner again.
 
I argued with a cop once and it worked out..

I was in a legit bad mood on June 21st, 2006. Guy pulled me over, never specifies a reason why. So he ask me if I have and drugs or alcohol or illegal weapons in my car. I tell him no, but he still asks if he could search my car. As he is walking towards my car, I tell him that I do not give him permission to search my car. He and his partner stop and look at me like "What the fuck you just said to me?"

A crowd of people are coming out of there houses, because this happened in a residential area. The cop then says he smells marijuana coming from my car. He searches through my car and tells me that he found a marijuana SEED on the floor of my car. "That's possession of marijuana", He says with a grin.

He arrested me. I ask what his name is, so I can file a complaint against him. I am then charged with public intimidation (A felony than can carry 8 years in jail) because he feels that I threatened his job and well being. His partner is young and black. After a quick trip back to the precinct, its his job to bring me to the parish prison. He looks at me and says that he can testify on my behalf in court saying I was cooperative or whatever. I look him square in the eyes and say "Fuck you for allowing this to happen and not even saying a word to stop it." Never said another word.

Bailed out a few days later because my mom was out of town. Lucky that a well known Baton Rouge lawyer is a family friend. All charges dropped and arrest record cleared. I guess my point is that you don't have to take the bullshit. Know your fucking rights.

That's all fine and dandy, but don't complain when your poor decision making lands you in a jail cell for an evening. Just because a cop is wrong doesn't mean it's your place to call him on it in the heat of the moment and not expect there to not be consequences.

Going to prison, getting bailed out "a few days later", getting lawyer's involved... that's your definition of arguing and having it all work out?

Yea.. that ordeal almost makes it sound like an easier and more practical plan is to Suicide by Cop. Who the fuck wants to put up with jail? People cant afford to risk losing a job over some fuckhead who should be in handcuffs instead of putting on handcuffs "getting even" because you want to exercise your rights.

I have no idea why, but whenever something like this crops up most of the time you end up hearing/reading that the case was effectively brushed aside and the folks involved given something akin to a slap on the wrist.

Police in the US are much more militarized than other developed countries, especially with increasing use of SWAT teams being deployed to the homes of non-violent drug offenders. There are some countries, I know Ireland as one, where most street cops don't even carry guns at all. And somehow in those places there's no constant chaos on the streets. Maybe in the US more people are willing to hurt and kill me because they see the authorities hurt and kill people all the time. And they want to take my shit because they're desperately poor. American income inequality isn't the cops' fault, but it seems common for law-and-order types that support cops acting in a hardline manner often want to dismantle the social safety net as well. Not very constructive.

Ungrateful? Cops do a job that contributes in a small way to the functioning of society, and earn a good living from it. Same as anyone else with a job. But for some reason they seem to need more gratitude than anyone else, despite there being many more dangerous jobs than police officer. Maybe cops are so obsessed with gratitude from the public because deep in their hearts they know they don't have the courage to do a more dangerous job, like be a garbageman.

He and his partner stop and look at me like "What the fuck you just said to me?"

A crowd of people are coming out of there houses, because this happened in a residential area. The cop then says he smells marijuana coming from my car. He searches through my car and tells me that he found a marijuana SEED on the floor of my car. "That's possession of marijuana", He says with a grin.

He arrested me. I ask what his name is, so I can file a complaint against him. I am then charged with public intimidation (A felony than can carry 8 years in jail) because he feels that I threatened his job and well being. His partner is young and black. After a quick trip back to the precinct, its his job to bring me to the parish prison. He looks at me and says that he can testify on my behalf in court saying I was cooperative or whatever. I look him square in the eyes and say "Fuck you for allowing this to happen and not even saying a word to stop it." Never said another word.

Bailed out a few days later because my mom was out of town. Lucky that a well known Baton Rouge lawyer is a family friend. All charges dropped and arrest record cleared. I guess my point is that you don't have to take the bullshit. Know your fucking rights.

I couldn't wrap my mind around why he was holding them at gun point so nonchalantly. Luckily the couple didn't overreact and get shot.
