US Presidential Foreign Policy Debate |OT| Please proceed, governor

humanitarian crisis, with push/backing from the international community - kind've a far cry from a "generational comittment" to preemptively invade iraq on false pretenses, id like to think. again, scope.

Iraq war was definitely larger scale than anything Obama's started. However, it's more the rationale/justification that I'm interested in - WHY are we going here or there. Why not Sudan, Myanmar, or any number of other places where a "humanitarian crisis" is taking place? Libya seemed to me to be an opportunistic pummeling of an old dictator we didn't like in the name of democracy and the children and whatnot - textbook neocon move.

mind elaborating? honest question... non American here

The election comes down to a handful of toss-up states, with Obama holding slim margins in the majority of them.

But it sort of depends on who you ask. The Huffington Post electoral map naturally looks much better than the realclearpolitics.com map.

I fear for you Americans if Shitt Vomney wins, I really do.

He really knows how to say exactly what the common American wants to hear without exactly explaining what it is that he's saying or how's it's feasible.

Give it 4 years and I think the economy will be looking pretty good because of the past 4 years. Then he gets re-elected and in 8 years it goes to shit.

Don't really know how to call the election. Hopefully Bams pulls it off.

Hey all. As an outsider, is there a good site (other than Real Clear Politics) that I can use to gain proper statistics on the Electoral race, specifically swing states? TIA.

True. And Obama's foreign policy is pretty much the same as Bush's, with a more conciliatory tone. Both were/are failures with regard to Russia, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, China, etc.

As a european I can tell you that you have absolutely no idea how radically different Obamas approach to foreign countries has been.
Bush was largely seen as an irresponsible hillbilly retard that put large parts of the world at risk of war to satisfy his cronies, brought war and instability to the middle east, ignored international alliances and regulatory bodies.
His show of strength was nothing more than the short seighted reactionist bullshit that Romney is proposing.
And while I would argue that Obama isn't anywhere near an optimal solution on foreign policy, he's a good deal better at it.

Even Real Clear Politics has an alleged conservative lean. I think this may be manifested in the fact that Obama is way ahead in some battleground states and yet their electoral map and vote count still show these states as toss-ups.

We survived Bush II, wounded and limping but still here. If the worse happens and Romney wins, I'm buying physical gold and stashing it someplace I can get to easily.
I'm voting for Obama and talking him up. But I live in a forest of Romney signs. At least I will cancel one of their votes.

If Romney wins, we should all just move to Ohio to ensure this doesn't happen again.

I saw that - and feel that same conservative lean - hence my question - appreciate your answer.

Rocket Scientist - thank you for that.

So you're picking a narrow angle to paint Obama's foreign policy is being the same as Bush's foreign policy.

Okay.

Did anyone else notice that Romney was wearing a larger US flag pin on his lapel? That made me laugh, otherwise the debate was a snoozer. Fell asleep half way through.

Thought Obama was being a bit too aggressive though with all the attacks.

Watching now, Obama sitting on the right and Romney on the left is throwing me off.

Obama seems a little too aggressive, he's in a tough spot though. Can't believe Romney's been allowed to just lie his ass off but the media still acts like he does a good job in the debates. These channels should have some fact checking feed on the screen for both of the candidates, it would be more useful than the useless live poll CNN has.

Romney claiming to cut Obamacare to increase military spending is telling of his priorities.

I don't understand blue collar middle-classers without health insurance who vote against their interests

It's fucking crazy. I can't believe a majority of our citizens are in favor of such ridiculous military spending. I would cut that shit down to like 20% of what it is now. He talks about increasing military spending as if it's going to somehow help things at home.

Is there a new "Binders full of women"?

Romney's army of horses and bayonets.

They idolize rich people and blindly do anything they say. They seem to think "this person knows how to get rich and if I elect him I'll be like him one day". It's intolerable.

I have yet to see the full debate (got it recorded at home to watch tonight) but I saw a clip of that horses and bayonets quote and it made me lol. A great quote.

Is there an OT for the election? Got to think that's a great thread title. "Horses, bayonets and binders of women"

Obama won the second debate yet Romney's numbers still improved. No reason it can't happen this time as well. This thing isn't sewn up by any degree.

His numbers improved in an outlier national tracking poll. Obama's chances have gone up, not Romney's.

Also I'm pretty sure realclearpolitics just runs an average of the polls without correcting for anything.

I live in Ohio. Trust me, you don't want to live in a swing state. Constant commercials, phone calls, crap in the mail, yard signs, bumper stickers people arguing, etc..... I'm ready to move to a solid state (preferably blue).

Is electoral-vote.com to be trusted in terms of the US presidential election? Because it seems like the race really is pretty tight atm. It's 281 vs. 244 with 13 tied. So all Romney would need atm is win Virginia (currently tied), which doesn't take too much, and get another 13. Ohio seems to be his best bet for that? If he doesn't get Ohio, he'd need Nevada + Wisconsin or Iowa + Wisconsin.

I'm not 100% on the math, but Romney really needs OH if he wants a reliable path to victory. Without it, he would need to flip a lot of swing states to win.

Watching right now since i'm alone and bored at work and foreign policy is the most interesting as an outsider honestly.
Just got the horses and bayonettes bit, hilarious :D
And oh boy, you better not pick this Romney feller as your next president people.

By the 3rd debate I would assume the undecideds are down to a thin sliver of voters. Can't really see how a "win" or a "loss" means anything at this point.

it would be hilarious if Florida'2000 happens again, Romney wins and then it turns out that elections were rigged. Romney family has already bought voting machines.

The 2004 election was also rigged with Ohio.

http://markcrispinmiller.com/2011/0...ract-with-mike-connell-to-rip-off-ohios-vote/

The fact that voter ID fraud gets covered in the media but not these privately owned electronic voting machines/counters is stupid. There's very little public oversight on these things and our entire democracy depends on them.

One of the things that continues to strike me about Romney when he speaks on foreign policy is the idea that he truly believe he can CHANGE the situation in the Middle East simply by talking to them. He seems utterly convinced that they are simply misguided and some dialog is all that's needed to make them understand.

He really comes off as someone who wants American to become more of a "police" country than it already is.

I don't really think you can be too aggressive when the other side has basically said if it came to it, something is getting blown the fuck up. Just because. America does not need another war. Period. We spent time and money rebuilding nations that we shouldn't have even been in. WE need to fix home first.
