US PSN: Golden Week Sale Celebrates Japanese Games

Is the pS3 version of Hot shots any good? Look decent? I have the vita version but it would be nice when I wanna play a few rounds on the big tv.

Yes, it's fun. Especially if you're looking for a game to play local multiplayer. Only problem is you have to play a lot of single player to unlock courses.

Will Amazon price match these prices? Dammit, if I get these games my little 8gb with the BL2 bundle won't be enough. I could buy a 64gb and not have enough to get every game I want..Damn, you Sony and your overpriced cards, lol.

Of course, I wasn't trying to be an ass, I was just reminding people that it was offered recently. I should have probably worded it better.

That's fine but MGR was only free in Europe and this sale is for North America, so your post still doesn't contribute to the discussion

What's shitty here is ToS.

Great deal but they're pulling all kinds of funky shit. Are they telling us to not day 1 Tales games?
Namco-Bandai's been trolling day 1 buyers with relatively quick, deep-discount PSN sales for awhile. I'm amazed everyone hasn't picked up on it by now.

That Chrono Cross price is finally going to make me double dip... I don't need it, but damn if I don't want to get it again at that price.

(edit) Also suppppper tempted to get the MGS HD collection for the Vita... already have it on PS3, and I don't even have a Vita right now... but I'd love to play it portably... How does the collection hold up on it? Specifically MGS3?

(edit 2) Holy shit and a great price on Golden? Fffffuuuuuuu.... Going to have to get that as well. Great sale is too great for my wallet on games I won't be able to play for awhile!

I played through the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger back in the day (as part of FF Chronicles), and honestly, I don't remember the loading being too bad. Yeah, it's noticeable, but it's nothing you can't look past.

Doesn't the DS version have that new script? I could never get past how odd and unnatural it sounded if you ever played the SNES version...

Is the script more accurate though? And the DS version has the cutscenes from the ps1 version right?

The script is fuller (there weren't cartridge constraints like on the SNES) and thus a little more faithful. The also made some changes to how Woosley portrayed the characters in the SNES/PSX versions (Frog speaks normal instead of with a middle-English accent). The original translation was by no means "bad".

There's definitely a few games I don't mind picking up.

Tales of Symphonia HD for $10 may be the top purchase for me of all the sale.

Some maybes include:
- Armored Core Verdict Day
- Devil May Cry HD
- Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational
- Zone of the Enders HD

There's a few I'm contemplating. Ys Memories of Celceta is one but I've been eyeing on getting the Silver Anniversary Edition. Muramasa Rebirth is another one but I'm afraid it could be a potential PS+ "free" game just like it is in Europe next month. Saint Seiya and Time & Eternity are also appealing to me but I know nothing about the former and I hear the latter is just plain bad.

That was part of Frog's charm, damn

Ok cool thanks guys. Wow sounds like they put some effort at least into the DS version.

Apparently it is more accurate, whatever that means, but I still prefer the original (with Frog's old english, etc). Yup, the DS version does have the cutscenes as well. Honestly I never cared much for them but maybe that's cause I dislike Toriyama's art style.

Namco sure has improved how they handle Tales lately. I mean, they've been making "good" Western trailers for their games, they've improved their localization efforts and have been doing great sales (both Graces and Xillia has been at <15 $/€ in every sale since early 2014).

Hope this helps them to improve Tales mindshare in the West. I really appreciate their efforts :)

And Atlus sure is trying to reach a 100% attach rate with P4G lol.

Guess it's finally time to hop on to Time & Eternity
not!
Guess I'll get Meruru+ and maybe something else. These sales are really making me feel ripped off for getting the games at full prices though. But it's a really great sale.

He still talks a little more... old fashioned, but it's not overexaggerated like the SNES/PS1 versions. He definitely loses some of his charm, but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting when I played it.

The new dungeons/content aren't exciting at all (the one with the reptites is nothing but a MASSIVE waste of time, which is sad since it's the more substantial one).

DS version is definitely the definitive version, I can say that without any doubts. It's just a shame they chose not to keep some of the changes Woolsey made when he first localized it (though I'm very glad that whoever is in charge of Final Fantasy has kept the changes Woolsey made in FF6).

(edit) I have to stop looking at the front page... or else I'm going to buy a bunch of vita games and then buy a Vita again... Damn you golden week saaaale! Seriously, Sony needs to do more sales of this quality, this is Steam quality of great sale.

Immediately knew I'd be in for Persona and Muramasa, but I just read some Ys reviews. I guess I'm getting that one too. Is it good for newcomers to the series?

Ok so a little help here;

I am going away for about 4 days next week and would like to grab one of these RPGs to play. Which one of these should I get knowing that;

1. I have PSG.
2. I'd like to possibly get close to finishing it, though disregard this if it means going for a 7 vs a 9/10 rated game.
3. My favorite RPG of all time is Suikoden 2 if that helps, though I also liked PSG, FF10, and FFVII.
4. Story and characters mean more than graphics.

Oh and this is for Vita in case that wasn't obvious.

yeah I'm just saying. I realized this shit a while back too. Crap, we're basically paying premiums for a soundtrack or artbook or whatever.

Think I'm gonna bite on the mgs HD deal for vita. had it on ps3 but sold it due to time and other priorities. with vita I can hack away at the game piece by piece without ever turning it off.

but the question is, is the port on Vita good? some gaffers can lend me their impressions. thanks

Y's is good but that is an action RPG. However you would definitely be able to finish it. Took me about 20-25 hours to beat and that was with exploring most of the map.

Chrono Cross is highly regarded arounf here and while not exactly similar to FF10 or 7. It seems to be the best sort of ground for you. Since you probably prefer Turn Based Combat.

Chrono Trigger you're better off getting on DS or playing anywhere else. The PS1 version is a last resort.

Can't say much about Atelier but from what little I have played. The game relies heavily on a time mechanic. That has you focusing on certain tasks until you have used them up for the ingame day time. Someone should do better in explaining it.

Is there an OT for Hot Shots? I am curious what is actually included and what DLC there is available. Is this the version where everything was included?

What are the chances they're pulling a Puppeteer on Muramasa and giving it away next month?

If they do, They gonna get a lot shit on the ps blog, but yea, I kinda doubt they'll do that...maybe.

I hope the reason Dragon's Crown is not in this sale is cause it's planned PS Plus game.

I swear I never mean to buy Neptunia games, yet Neptunia games continue to be bought. And now Victory is on sale? The price was the only thing staying my hand!

I think I need an intervention, gaf.

Totally buying ZOE HD without a second of hesitation though.

Would buy Tales Chronicles... If i hadn't already got it on disc for full price just last month. That stings, man. I suppose i could trade it in for a PSN card of equal value and then just buy the digital version to spare the blu-ray drive of my ancient refurbished 60gig PS3... but that's too much like doing work.

How is Time and Eternity?
Is it worth the purchase?

It's hot garbage. If you MUST get your saucer-eyed honey rpg fix, I'd recommend Neptunia over it. At least the characters are in on the joke in Neptunia. Better yet, get any of the Atelier games.
