VANQUISH |OT| Bullet Ballet performed by the London Awesome orchestra

The battles themselves are generally very different (at least as far as shooters can be different), due to the different environment/arena and quantity/type of enemies involved.

Not to mention it's a shooter with actual good boss battles. Those don't really show up too often in the genre.

Just got done with the game. Clocked in at a little under 4:00 hours. I was happy with the experience even though everything I've read about it basically caring less about a functional story was true for me. Usually that's a huge turnoff for me, but in this case the shooting and other game mechanics worked well enough that I didn't think about most of the time. I'm kinda curious though, where's the lasting or repeat play appeal in the game for people? The tactical challenges? Or replaying the campaign?

I'll probably wind up running through it again on a harder difficulty, but I found most boss fights little more than triggering the suit or throwing EMP grenades and finding the weak point. I really don't feel like hugging cover the entire time I'm doing the harder playthrough if enemies just hit for more.

Actually scratch my main complaint. My biggest issue with this game is the fact they took out the "We will stop that from happening" line from the trailer. That line was the reason I bought this game. Did all the mocking and jeers cause them to cut it out from the final release?

Burns says it while briefing Bravo Company at the beginning of the game.

This game is quite fun. Though I always feel I'm doing something wrong with it... I feel like I'm cheating when I just roll - bullet-time - headshot everyone. I kinda want to run up to enemies and kick them or just do some crazy combos...

Now the game feels kinda simple and easy, though still very much fun because of the speed. It's also quite hard to see the patterns in bigger enemies unlike in DMC clone genre.

I'm pretty certain they reworded the dialogue in the trailer. It's no longer "We have approximately eight hours to stop that from happening. We will.....stop that from happening!".

it was edited FOR the trailer. there's a line or two in between those two sentences in the actual game.

Is it me or is the dark tunnel part on chapter 1 the same as Gears 2? Felt familiar :lol

It is a lot like that part, you're escorting a big war machine and there are explosive enemies that charge you. It was one of my least favorite parts in Vanquish, but it was still way better than the pain in the ass Gears 2 version.

Those jellyfish fish monsters felt out of place in Vanquish. I was like ''yeah, this totally makes sense''.

Just finished it and while I loved it it feels like it ended a little abruptly. Definitely set up for a (*fingers crossed*) sequel.

Oh god. Act 2 on Hard.

Oh god.

Nice, I just got back to my Hard run and I'm towards the end of chapter 1. I love it, Normal was an awesome time but Hard feels like the proper way to play the game. The standard enemies aren't a big deal, but the bigger dudes can put up a good fight. I've been hanging on to the disc launcher this time so I can dice those motherfuckers up.

Sooo much fun, I love this game.

That's the problem, isn't it? The game flopped so we won't get one :( I hate it when that happens.

Just picked it up and have been playing a little, I'm finding it somewhat difficult to boost around and all that. Maybe I'm getting old, hopefully I'll get the hang of it soon. Is it just me or is it somewhat blurry (360 version)?

I think the worst thing about Hard so far isn't so much the enemies...well, okay, it is, but also losing your upgrades when you die hurts a LOT this time around.

Also, I'm REALLY learning to love the Lock-On Laser, especially on Hard. Even without any upgrades it can be a huge help when dealing with swarms of basic enemies.

Yeah, I do wish the upgrades were handled differently, especially since I'm trying to play with the DLC weapons. The revolver and the new machine gun are badass, but it's hard enough to find ammo for them - upgrading would be damn near impossible unless I didn't even use them, but that would be a waste. Oh well, if anything it encourages me to use a variety of weapons this time, in playthrough 1 I stuck with the shotty and the heavy machine gun most of the time.

I think you will. I played the demo a few times and I didn't get the hang of it at first. I was trying to play it like Gears of War, but once I figured out how to utilize AR mode and the slide, it clicked for me. You just gotta know when to use it and when NOT to use it, and to get the hang of managing the heat so you're not always overheated when you need it most.

Maby its just me, but when I changed the speed in the options menu I could finally get in to the game. Maby I'm getting too old for this type of gameplay.

...there's a speed setting? What's it do?

these challenges, oi

1 - 3 weren't too bad, but 4 and 5 are a whole other story, and 6 I'm sure is a nightmare but I doubt I'll ever unlock it :lol

Speed of the right stick basically, there's three sliders: one for normal, one for aiming, and one for the sniper rifle. By default I think they're all at 50, after my first play through I changed them all to around 70 I think. I tried 100 at first just to test it out but couldn't handle it.

For anybody not paying attention, Vanquish just got an across-the-board price cut to $40. You can also snag it off Amazon for $30.

No excuses.

You're welcome.

What a deal, no excuses now. I payed the full $60, but I have no qualms over it. Hopefully my contribution was enough to buy Mikami a pack of smokes or something.

I'll get it in two or three weeks (a paycheck or two after Dead Space 2), hopefully by then it's dropped a little more. I'm good with paying the $30 though, loved the demo.

well, while I can't say the controls have "clicked" yet at least I'm getting better :p I think part of the problem is that last time I played a console game.... well it was ages ago.

I bought Bayonetta at full-price so I'm allowed another price-drop.

Damn, this feels even more fun on #2.

Anyways, question: what is the point of the LFE gun? It's the only one that I've barely used, but when I do it just seems to go through the enemy.

That's pretty much the point. It's kind of like the shotgun, in a way.

I see, so it just deals a concentrated heavy damage. It doesn't seem very useful, at least not enough to take up one of my valuable slots.

Oh well. I'm really into this Boost Machine Gun from the DLC pack. The clip is small but it's accurate and it downs those fuckers real fast. The Anti-Armor Pistol is nice as well but the ammo goes too fast.

This game is good.

I Gamefly'd it, and then almost immediately put it back in the mail after about 20 minutes.

Since then, however, I've finished Bayonetta. Now I'm without question going to give this game another shot.

You should perhaps trade in all your gaming devices and pick up another hobby if you don't enjoy vanquish.

I'm stuck on challenge 6 :(

It's not like the shotgun at all, the big thing about it is that it goes through everything. Like if there's a bunch of robots behind gun turrets in a building? Get close and underneath outside, shoot up into the wall, see some sparks fly and the gunfire stop. Or a group of robots hiding behind a shield, just shoot straight at them.

The problem is that the range is short and it's kind of weak to start. Upgrades give it longer range and more power, I think the ball radius gets larger as well so you can hit more targets at once.

While the LFE Gun can one-hit kill most Gorgies at point-blank range, you'll really want to use it to knock large enemies down and/or keep them stunned. Gorgies can be taken down quickly with just about everything else. Keep in mind that the gun's default range is short, and that the inflicted damage for each shot is entirely dependent on how far your target is. The further the target, the weaker the shot. Lastly, you can extend the damaging duration of each shot while in AR mode. This effect is very noticeable when you use it on an ARGUS core.

Thanks for the info, dudes, that helps a lot.

It kinda makes me wish there was a weapon wheel in Vanquish. With limited slots I tend to stick to stuff with a lot of ammo, but if I could choose from 'em all it would probably encourage me to mix it up, to experiment more and use stuff like the LFE gun. That would be pretty awesome.

Oh well, game is badass either way.

Another point of the LFE gun I found interesting is that as it repel big mobs, it can buy you precious seconds to escape to a clearer area. I used that effect a lot to beat Challenge 4.
